Cross-medial Art and Exhibitions Call for Papers Date: 2012-07-01

Curators and designers of exhibitions continuously experiment with various media in order to display art. The technical and medial boundaries of composing and presenting exhibitions are explored and exceeded. The same goes for the physical walls of the white cube.

Ever since the first public exhibitions took place in the second half of the eighteenth-century, various media and techniques have been utilised and combined in order to communicate the exhibition’s story and message most cogently, or in order to foreground the works on display most effectively. The first World’s Fair (1851) celebrated innovative industrial processes, and novel techniques literally cast a new light on culture. The nineteenth-century British painter John Martin, accentuated the experience of his The End of Time-canvasses by introducing light and sound effects. In the 1960s, Bruce Nauman explored the walls of his studio through his video work, and examined the possibilities of new media and techniques. Over the past decades, the rise and availability of Internet has further stimulated a revision of our conception of an exhibition’s medial borders. One can, for instance, visit an exhibition in Second Life, and Augmented Reality grants an extra dimension to a visitor’s experience of an exhibition.

Evidently, the practice of constructing exhibitions is evolving and becoming increasingly multilayered. This, however, raises questions such as:

• How do new techniques and digital media used in exhibitions influence the experience of art on the one hand and the experience of an exhibition on the other?

• Can we trace the desire to create cross-medial exhibitions back to the visitor or to the curator of the exhibition, and where will this trend take us?

• Do these new developments expand the creative possibilities of museums, or do they in fact impose limits on curators?

• Can we identify examples of the utilization of cross-mediality in exhibitions from the last couple of centuries that might have led to this current trend?

Kunstlicht invites academic reflections on cross-medial exhibitions and on exhibitions of cross-medial art. Proposals (200 – 300 words) can be sent to redactie@... on or before 1 July 2012. Selected authors will be asked to write a 2.000 – 3.000-word paper (excluding notes). Papers may be written either in English or in Dutch, although we prefer native Dutch speakers to write in their native language.

Applications invited for funded participation Photographs have for long been central to discourses of human rights, humanitarian activism, pacifism, political mobilization, revolutionary struggle, social reform and warfare. Thanks to their intimate and necessary relationship to the material world — their ‘having-been-there’ quality – photographs bear tremendous emotional and affective power in these discursive contexts. Disseminated as they are across an evolving range of media, and spanning geographical distances, historical periods, and cultural and linguistic divides, photographs call on us to recognize our fellow human beings in moments of crisis and duress. As they circulate in the global public sphere, such images invite patterns of identification; they mobilize shame; incite outrage, hatred, fear, disgust, compassion, etc. Offering visual knowledge of suffering and injustice (embodied in the starving child, the destitute earthquake survivor, the victim of torture) photographs expose these conditions to public scrutiny, provoking a reaction in their viewers, impelling them to action, to ‘do something’. Indeed, the very fact that they continue to circulate testifies to the on-going belief in their power to communicate affect transnationally and ultimately to effect change.

And yet, when it comes to determining just what it is that such images accomplish, more often than not they are found wanting. Icons of outrage, as David Perlmutter has forcefully put it, “may stir controversy, accolades, and emotion, but achieve absolutely nothing.”

The starting point of this workshop is that this paradox should not become an aporia, deterring us in the pursuit of an understanding of how photographs do the work they do. Or, in the words of Thomas Keenan:

“images, information, and knowledge will never guarantee any outcome, nor will they force or drive any action . . . Still, the only thing more unwise than attributing the power of causation or of paralysis to images is to ignore them altogether.”

The aim of the ‘Doing Photography’ workshop is to bring together a range of participants from different backgrounds –photographers, archivists, picture editors, NGO activists, academics, etc. – who are committed to exploring questions not so much of whether photographs work, rather of how they do the work they do. We are looking for tightly-focussed interventions on the theme that might engage with some of the following indicative questions:

- How do photographs facilitate the transmission and communication of affect across different geopolitical and historical contexts?

- What are the mechanisms by which photographs foster cross-cultural identification and forge emotional communities?

- How do the changing modes of circulation and display impact on modalities of affect and effectiveness?

- How might we elaborate a critical methodology to account for the reception of photographic images that call on their viewers to participate in transnational acts of witnessing?

- How do we develop a critical vocabulary to discuss these questions that integrates the different perspectives and experiences of those concerned with photographs that do things?

Instructions for submission of abstracts The workshop is part of a network project funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council. We invite submission of abstracts, from which we would expect to select up to 8, and we are delighted to be able to offer funding to cover accommodation and subsistence to those participants whose proposals are selected.

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC SESSION

dedicated to

the 500th anniversary of the Armenian typography and

the 65th anniversary of Yerevan State University Student Scientific Society

Armenian typology has a 500-year history. UNESCO declared Yerevan as the capital city of books in 2012. Simultaneously Yerevan State University Student Scientific Society (hereinafter SSS) celebrates the 65^thanniversary of its establishment. On this occasion international student scientific session is going to be held between 15-19 October in Yerevan, capital city of Armenia. The session will be held in all YSU faculties in several sections and subsections. N.B. The topics of reports are rather inclusive, one can submit articles on any topic.

So as to participate in the scientific session you should submit the application forms by email attachment to the SSS email: sss@... by 15 September.

The complete version of the report is to be submitted to the same email address along with the written opinion of the supervisor and recommendation letter by the chair by 25 September (the recommendation letters in scanned version and the reports in Word (.doc) format). The reports of the session will be published in SSS “Collection of Scientific Articles”. The guideline for writing scientific papers is attached.

Представленные на научной сессии доклады будут опубликованы в юбилейных номерах “Собрания научных статей” СНО ЕГУ. Вместе с этим, предоставляем нормативы научных статей для публикации в сборнике СНО.

Статьи, которые не будут соответствовать данным нормативам, не будут допущены к печати.

Для авторов статей тех работ, которые пройдут конкурсный отбор, проживание во время конференции будет в доме гостей ЕГУ. Проживание бесплатно, но оплата транспортных затрат за счет отправляющей стороны.

CIUS publishes volume on Armenians in Ukraine
7 June 2012— Since 1980, when the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian
Studies (CIUS) at the University of Alberta sponsored a conference on
Polish-Ukrainian relations, it has gone on to hold numerous
conferences about Ukraine’s relations with its neighbors and with the
diverse peoples that have lived in the Ukrainian lands from ancient
times to the present. Collections of papers delivered at such
conferences on Polish, Russian, German, Jewish, Romanian, and
Moldavian affairs present permanent records of these international
forums for research and discussion of Ukraine’s role in the region and
the multicultural aspects of Ukrainian history. In cosponsoring a
conference on the Armenians of Ukraine together with the Armenian
Studies Program of the University of Michigan and the Ukrainian
Catholic University of Lviv (UCU), CIUS has continued this tradition
by examining one of the most ancient and influential minorities
inhabiting the Ukrainian lands.
The multilingual volume Armenian-Ukrainian Historical Contacts: Papers
of the International Conference held in Lviv, 29–31 May 2008
(Virmeno-ukraïns'ki istorychni zv’iazky: materialy mizhnarodnoï
naukovoï konferentsiï (L'viv, 29–31 travnia 2008), edited by Kevork
Bardakjian, Frank Sysyn, and Andrii Yasinovsky and copublished by CIUS
and UCU, appeared in 2011. The book is dedicated to Professor Yaroslav
Dashkevych, the great Lviv specialist in Armenian studies, who played
a major role in organizing the conference and participated actively in
its discussions. Professor Dashkevych passed away on 25 February 2010.
The editors’ introductions, written in English and Ukrainian, discuss
the context and proceedings of the conference, paying special
attention to the significance of Lviv and of Professor Dashkevych in
Armenian studies. The volume begins with an article (in Ukrainian and
Armenian) by Yaroslav Dashkevych on the ancient Armenian community of
Kyiv. Articles by Myron Kapral (in English) and Alexander Osipian (in
Ukrainian) deal with the history of the Armenians of Lviv. Karina
Pyvovarska writes (in Ukrainian) about the activities of the Armenian
Revolutionary Federation in early Soviet Ukraine. Hasnik Step‘anyan
discusses Armeno-Kipchak literature (in Armenian), and Vardan
Grigorian examines the manuscript tradition of the Armenians of
Podilia (in Ukrainian). Konrad Siеkierski deals with Armenian
religiosity and cult objects (in Polish). Several articles treat the
artistic legacy of the Armenians of Ukraine. Iryna Haiuk discusses
museum holdings of Armenian artifacts (in Ukrainian). Lilit Pipoyan
discusses the architecture of the Surb Khach Monastery in the Crimea,
and Anush Ter-Minasyan examines the Armenian cathedral in Lviv (both
in Russian). Mik’ayel Aṙak’elyan discusses the illuminated manuscripts
of Galicia, Bukovyna, and Podilia in an English-language article
accompanied by numerous illustrations of Armenian masterpieces.

КІУС видав книгу про вірмен в Україні
7 червня 2012 — Починаючи з конференції про польсько-українські
стосунки 1980 р., Канадський інститут українських студій (КІУС) при
Альбертському університеті підтримав низку конференцій, присвячених
взаєминам України з її сусідами та народами, що населяють українські
землі від найдавніших часів до сьогодні. На основі матеріялів із цих
конференцій видано збірники про відносини з польським, російським,
німецьким, єврейським, румунським і молдовським народами. Ці видання
показали, як конференція може служити міжнароднім форумом для
досліджень і дискусій про ролю України в реґіоні та багатокультурні
аспекти української історії. Спонсоруючи нову конференцію в Україні
спільно з Програмою вірменських студій Мічиґанського університету та
Українським католицьким університетом (УКУ, Львів), КІУС продовжив цю
традицію, представляючи одну з найдавніших і найвпливовіших меншин в
Україні — вірменську.
Багатомовний том «Вірмено-українські історичні зв’язки: матеріали
міжнародної наукової конференції (Львів, 28‒31 травня 2008)» за
редакцією Кеворка Бардакчяна, Франка Сисина й Андрія Ясіновського
виданий спільно КІУСом та УКУ в 2011 р. Його присвячено пам’яті
відомого львівського вірменознавця професора Ярослава Дашкевича, який
відійшов у вічність невдовзі після конференції (25 лютого 2010),
відігравши велику ролю в її організації та взявши в ній активну
участь.
У вступі англійською і українською мовами редактори обговорюють
контекст і зміст конференції, звертаючи особливу увагу на важливість
Львова та внесок професора Дашкевича у вірменські студії. Том
починається статтею Ярослава Дашкевича про вірменське самоврядування в
Києві у ХV‒XVII ст. (українською і вірменською мовами). Мирон Капраль
(англійською) та Олександр Осіпян (українською) розповідають про
історію вірмен Львова. Каріна Пивоварська аналізує діяльність
вірменської революційної партії Дашнакцутюн у ранній Радянській
Україні (українською). Гаснік Степанян розглядає вірмено-кіпчацьку
літературу (вірменською), а Вардан Ґріґорян вірменське рукописне
мистецтво на Поділлі (українською). Конрад Сєкєрський звертається до
питання про релігійність вірмен та предмети їхнього культу
(польською). У кількох статтях ідеться про мистецьку спадщину вірмен в
Україні: Ірина Гаюк розглядає вірменські духовні і матеріяльні
пам’ятки з музеїв України (українською), Ліліт Піпоян архітектуру

CIUS publishes volume on Armenians in Ukraine
7 June 2012— Since 1980, when the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian
Studies (CIUS) at the University of Alberta sponsored a conference on
Polish-Ukrainian relations, it has gone on to hold numerous
conferences about Ukraine’s relations with its neighbors and with the
diverse peoples that have lived in the Ukrainian lands from ancient
times to the present. Collections of papers delivered at such
conferences on Polish, Russian, German, Jewish, Romanian, and
Moldavian affairs present permanent records of these international
forums for research and discussion of Ukraine’s role in the region and
the multicultural aspects of Ukrainian history. In cosponsoring a
conference on the Armenians of Ukraine together with the Armenian
Studies Program of the University of Michigan and the Ukrainian
Catholic University of Lviv (UCU), CIUS has continued this tradition
by examining one of the most ancient and influential minorities
inhabiting the Ukrainian lands.
The multilingual volume Armenian-Ukrainian Historical Contacts: Papers
of the International Conference held in Lviv, 29–31 May 2008
(Virmeno-ukraïns'ki istorychni zv’iazky: materialy mizhnarodnoï
naukovoï konferentsiï (L'viv, 29–31 travnia 2008), edited by Kevork
Bardakjian, Frank Sysyn, and Andrii Yasinovsky and copublished by CIUS
and UCU, appeared in 2011. The book is dedicated to Professor Yaroslav
Dashkevych, the great Lviv specialist in Armenian studies, who played
a major role in organizing the conference and participated actively in
its discussions. Professor Dashkevych passed away on 25 February 2010.
The editors’ introductions, written in English and Ukrainian, discuss
the context and proceedings of the conference, paying special
attention to the significance of Lviv and of Professor Dashkevych in
Armenian studies. The volume begins with an article (in Ukrainian and
Armenian) by Yaroslav Dashkevych on the ancient Armenian community of
Kyiv. Articles by Myron Kapral (in English) and Alexander Osipian (in
Ukrainian) deal with the history of the Armenians of Lviv. Karina
Pyvovarska writes (in Ukrainian) about the activities of the Armenian
Revolutionary Federation in early Soviet Ukraine. Hasnik Step‘anyan
discusses Armeno-Kipchak literature (in Armenian), and Vardan
Grigorian examines the manuscript tradition of the Armenians of
Podilia (in Ukrainian). Konrad Siеkierski deals with Armenian
religiosity and cult objects (in Polish). Several articles treat the
artistic legacy of the Armenians of Ukraine. Iryna Haiuk discusses
museum holdings of Armenian artifacts (in Ukrainian). Lilit Pipoyan
discusses the architecture of the Surb Khach Monastery in the Crimea,
and Anush Ter-Minasyan examines the Armenian cathedral in Lviv (both
in Russian). Mik’ayel Aṙak’elyan discusses the illuminated manuscripts
of Galicia, Bukovyna, and Podilia in an English-language article
accompanied by numerous illustrations of Armenian masterpieces.

КІУС видав книгу про вірмен в Україні
7 червня 2012 — Починаючи з конференції про польсько-українські
стосунки 1980 р., Канадський інститут українських студій (КІУС) при
Альбертському університеті підтримав низку конференцій, присвячених
взаєминам України з її сусідами та народами, що населяють українські
землі від найдавніших часів до сьогодні. На основі матеріялів із цих
конференцій видано збірники про відносини з польським, російським,
німецьким, єврейським, румунським і молдовським народами. Ці видання
показали, як конференція може служити міжнароднім форумом для
досліджень і дискусій про ролю України в реґіоні та багатокультурні
аспекти української історії. Спонсоруючи нову конференцію в Україні
спільно з Програмою вірменських студій Мічиґанського університету та
Українським католицьким університетом (УКУ, Львів), КІУС продовжив цю
традицію, представляючи одну з найдавніших і найвпливовіших меншин в
Україні — вірменську.
Багатомовний том «Вірмено-українські історичні зв’язки: матеріали
міжнародної наукової конференції (Львів, 28‒31 травня 2008)» за
редакцією Кеворка Бардакчяна, Франка Сисина й Андрія Ясіновського
виданий спільно КІУСом та УКУ в 2011 р. Його присвячено пам’яті
відомого львівського вірменознавця професора Ярослава Дашкевича, який
відійшов у вічність невдовзі після конференції (25 лютого 2010),
відігравши велику ролю в її організації та взявши в ній активну
участь.
У вступі англійською і українською мовами редактори обговорюють
контекст і зміст конференції, звертаючи особливу увагу на важливість
Львова та внесок професора Дашкевича у вірменські студії. Том
починається статтею Ярослава Дашкевича про вірменське самоврядування в
Києві у ХV‒XVII ст. (українською і вірменською мовами). Мирон Капраль
(англійською) та Олександр Осіпян (українською) розповідають про
історію вірмен Львова. Каріна Пивоварська аналізує діяльність
вірменської революційної партії Дашнакцутюн у ранній Радянській
Україні (українською). Гаснік Степанян розглядає вірмено-кіпчацьку
літературу (вірменською), а Вардан Ґріґорян вірменське рукописне
мистецтво на Поділлі (українською). Конрад Сєкєрський звертається до
питання про релігійність вірмен та предмети їхнього культу
(польською). У кількох статтях ідеться про мистецьку спадщину вірмен в
Україні: Ірина Гаюк розглядає вірменські духовні і матеріяльні
пам’ятки з музеїв України (українською), Ліліт Піпоян архітектуру
монастиря Сурб-Хач у Криму, Ануш Тер-Мінасян архітектуру вірменського
собору у Львові (обидві російською), Мікаєль Аракелян ілюстровані
рукописи з Галичини, Буковини й Поділля (англійською).

Կապան / Շիկահող. լուսանկ.` ՀԳԱԴ (Հայագիտական արշավային դասընթաց) 2011

1. Թեև վաղուց վարժվել ենք ադրբեջանցիների ԲԱՆՄԱՆԱՍԱԻՐԱԿԱՆ զառանցանքներին, բայց, միևնույն է, ամեն անգամ չես կարողանում չզարմանալ ու չհիանալ նրանց հերթական շեդևրով: Երեկ «իմացանք», որ Կապանն էլ է եղել ադրբեջանական, ընդ որում ոչ միայն պատմական ժամանակներում, այլև, որ հատկապես զվարճալի է, սովետական շրջանում:

Հասկանալի է, որ Սյունիքի ու Արցախի հայկականությունը (պատմական և նոր ժամանակներում) ապացուցման կարիք չունի: Այդուհանդերձ, կարծում եմ, տվյալ դեպքում արժե կոնկրետ Կապանի հարցը լուսաբանել ԲԱՆԱՍԻՐԱԿԱՆ ՉՈՐՈՎ և պատկերացում կազմել, թե ինչ բանասիրական տվյալների հետ գործ ունենք այստեղ:

2. Կապան գավառը համապատասխանում է հնագույն Ձորք կամ Ձորայ գավառին (տես «Աշխարհացոյց»-ի համապատասխանաբար համառոտ և ընդարձակ խմբագրությունները): Պարզ է, որ Ձոր-ք տեղանունը բնիկ հայկական է` մեր ձոր բառն է: Դրա Կապան տարբերակն էլ է վկայված մատենագրության մեջ: Ստ. Օրբելյանը (13-14-րդ դդ.) վկայում է, որ Ձորք գավառն «այժմ կոչվում է Կապան» (Աբրահամյան 1986. 70):

Դեռևս մեծ հայագետ Հյուբշմանն է հստակորեն արձանագրել այն փաստը, որ Կապան տեղանունն արտացոլում է գրաբարյան կապան ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ բառը (Հյուբշմանը իմաստը ներկայացնում է գերմաներեն ‘Engpaß’ հոմանիշով), որ հետագայում թուրքերենի հենքի վրա աղավաղվելով դարձել է Ղափան, և որ Կապան անվամբ հայկական տեղավայր կար նաև Զեյթուն / Ուլնիայի մերձակայքում[1]: *Կապան տեղանուններ կային նաև Համշենում և այլուր (տես ստորև):

Ակնհայտ է, որ կապ-ան ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ բառը հայակազմություն է` կապ արմատից ածանցված, հմմտ. կապ-ան (ոսկեդարյան գրաբարում` հոգն. կապ-ան-ք) ‘կապ, կապանք, շղթա, ձեռնակապ’: Բառիս ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ նշանակությունը վկայված է Մովսես Խորենացու, Մատթեոս Ուռհայեցու և այլոց երկերում[2]: Դրա բնիմաստը կարելի է բնութագրել մոտավորապես որպես ‘լեռնակապ, լեռների միջև` ճանապարհակապ’, հմմտ. օրինակ Կաքավաբերդի բարբառի կապ ‘ճանապարհի վտանգավոր մասը’ արմատական ձևը (Մուրադյան 1967. 195a): Տիպաբանորեն հմմտ. պարսկ. band, Dar-band, *bandana- ևն: Նմանապես, կար-ան ‘կար, հոդ, կարվածք’ բառը, որ կազմված է կար ‘չվան, լար, հոդ’ արմատից և այդ նույն -ան ածանցից, Ղարաբաղի բարբառում ստացել է ‘քարայր’ իմաստը[3]:

3. Հայերեն կապան բառը երկու իմաստներով էլ պահպանված է բարբառներում.

1) ‘կապ, թոկ, երիզ, օրորոցակապ’ – Արարատյան (Ամատունի 1912. 330b), Վան, Ղարաբաղ, Հավարիք (ՀայԼեզԲրբԲառ Գ, 2004. 42-43), Գորիս (Մարգարյան 1975. 410b), Արեշ (Լուսենց 1982.215a).

2) ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ – Խոտորջուր (ՀԱԲ 2. 519a; ՅուշամԽոտորջ 1964. 468b), Համշեն (Թոռլաքյան 1981. 69b), Սեբաստիա (Գաբիկեան 1952. 290), Մոկս (Орбели 2002. 260)[4], Կարին ևն (ՀայԼեզԲրբԲառ Գ, 2004. 43a): Որոշ բարբառներում` քար ու կապան (տես ստորև):

Խոտորջուրի բառիմաստը նկարագրված է այս կերպ. «գահավէժի գլխէ ճանապարհ անցուած, ժայռահատ ճամբայ. կիրճ» (ՅուշամԽոտորջ 1964. 468b), Մոկսինը` «дорога на обрыве над рекою, под скалой» (Орбели 2002. 260):

Ինչպես հանգամանորեն բացատրում է Թոռլաքյանը (1981. 69b), Համշենի Կապօն (< Կապան նախաձևից) հայաբնակ գյուղն իր անունն ստացել է գյուղի արևելքում առկա անդնդախոր ու ապառաժուտ ձորերից, որոնք տեղի բարբառով կոչվում են կապոն-ներ: Նկատենք, որ հայերենի ա ձայնավորը ռնգայիններին (մ, ն) նախորդող դիրքում օրինաչափորեն դառնում է օ (կապան > *գաբօն):

Ինչպես տեսնում ենք, կապան բառը ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ իմաստով վկայված է 5-րդ դարից, պահպանվել է կը-ճյուղի բազմաթիվ բարբառներում և որպես տեղանուն հանդես է գալիս պատմական Հայաստանի ամենատարբեր ծայրամասերում` Համշեն, Կիլիկիա, Սյունիք ևն[5]: Ուշագրավ է, որ այս բառը հայերենից փոխառված է վրացերենի կողմից` k’ap’ani ‘ժայռոտ` անանցանելի վայր, անդունդների վրա վտանգավոր ճանապարհ’ (ՀԱԲ 2. 520b):

Որոշ բարբառներում, օրինակ` Խարբերդում և Մուշում, կապան ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ բառը պահպանված է քար ու կապան բառակապակցության մեջ (Աճառեան 1913. 1101a; Բաղդասարյան-Թափալցյան 1958. 260a և ծնթ. 1): Հոյակապ է մեր էպոսի այն դրվագը, որտեղ Մսրա Մելիքի հարկահան Կոզբադինը գնում է Սասուն` մեծ քանակությամբ ոսկի ու կանայք շորթելու նպատակով, բայց Դավթի կողմից դուրս շպրտվելով գալիս է Մելիքի մոտ, գանգատվում է ու արդարանում` «Ես չգիտեի` Սասուն քար էր` կապան…»[6]:

4. ԱՄՓՈՓՈՒՄ

Պատմական Հայաստանի Սյունիք նահանգի քննվող գավառը հնում կոչվել է Ձորք կամ Ձորայ («Աշխարհացոյց», 7-րդ դ.), հետո փոխարինվել է Կապան համարժեքով (Ստ. Օրբելյան, 13-14-րդ դդ.): Երկուսն էլ հայակազմ տեղանուններ են. ավելին, նրանք արտացոլում են նույն իմաստաբանական կաղապարը` ‘ձոր / կիրճ’, ինչը հեշտորեն բացատրվում է այս տարածքի անդնդախոր ձորերի, կիրճերի ու վտանգավոր լեռնանցքների գոյության հանգամանքով:

Ոսկեդարյան հայերենից վկայված կապան(ք) ‘կապ, կապանք, շղթա, ձեռնակապ’ բառը (կապ + -ան, հմմտ. կար-ան ևն) դեռևս Խորենացու մոտ գործածված է ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ իմաստով և պահպանվել է կը-ճյուղի բազմաթիվ բարբառներում` պրակտիկորեն նույն իմաստով` ‘անդնդախոր ձորերով անցնող վտանգավոր ճանապարհ, լեռնանցք’: Միջանկյալ *‘լեռնակապ, լեռների միջև` ճանապարհակապ’ իմաստի համար հմմտ. Կաքավաբերդի բարբառի կապ ‘ճանապարհի վտանգավոր մասը’ բառը: Վրացերեն k’ap’ani ‘ժայռոտ` անանցանելի վայր, անդունդների վրա վտանգավոր ճանապարհ’ բառը փոխառված է հայերենից:

Այս կապան ‘կիրճ, լեռնանցք’ բառը որպես տեղանուն հանդես է գալիս պատմական Հայաստանի ամենատարբեր ծայրամասերում` Համշեն, Կիլիկիա, Սյունիք ևն:

Այս ամենը հստակորեն ցույց է տալիս Կապան/Ձորք գավառի շարունակական հայկականությունը պատմական բոլոր փուլերում, և այն, որ ադրբեջանցիների հերթական մոգոնվածքը նրանց սիրելի գիտա-մարազմատիկա ժանրից է:

The Free University, Harvard University Instructors and the International Spark Program present:

The International Summer School on Leadership

The school will take place at the Free University Training Center near Bazaleti Lake in Georgia; on 11-21 August, 2012.

Students from different universities and majors, who are currently enrolled in their first or second year of university (starting their second or third year in the fall) and can communicate fluently in English, are eligible to apply to the International Summer School on Leadership.

During ten days, the participants of the International Summer School have the great opportunity to attend classes held by Harvard University instructors at the Free University Training Center close to the Bazaleti Lake (about 15 minutes walking distance). By the end of the school, all participants have to submit and present projects that they work on in teams during the ten days.

Only 80 successful applicants will be able to take part in the International Summer School on Leadership 2011.

Successful candidates must pass a two-step application process:

First phase – To apply please fill out the registration form before July 20, 2012. Please be aware, that preference is given to early applications.

Second phase – If you successfully pass the first phase of the application process, you will be invited for an interview. Be aware, that the interview will be conducted under group conditions, in English and a representative from Harvard University will be present.

The Free University offers scholarships to all 80 participants:

Participants from the Free University are offered a scholarship of 80% that reduces the fee to the amount of 220 GEL*

Participants from other universities are offered a scholarship of 70% that reduces the fee to the amount of 320 GEL*

Besides that, ISS sponsors offer also full, 100%, scholarships**

*The participation fee for the International Summer School is 1 080 GEL;

**applicants who recruit a high number of fellow applicants will be given preferred consideration for additional financial aid

The Free University scholarship covers the costs of participation, accommodation during 10 days at the Bazaleti Training Center, meals three times a day, transportation (Tbilisi – Bazaleti Training Center – Tbilisi), reading and other needed materials.

Mellon Foundation, Dartmouth is pleased to accept applications for one postdoctoral fellowship in the humanities and humanistic social sciences for the 2013–2015 academic years. Դասընթացը նախատեսված է Լոռու մարզի հանրային/քաղաքացիական թղթակիցների, բլոգերների, լրագրողների համար:

Դասընթացի շրջանակներում սոցիալական մեդիայի, համացանցային անվտանգության եւ բնապահպանական խնդիրների լուսաբանման վերաբերյալ վարպետության դասեր եւ հանդիպումներ կանցկացնեն հայաստանյան մի շարք կազմակերպությունների ներկայացուցիչներ:

Այս միջոցառումը Լոռու մարզի երիտասարդներին հնարավորություն կընձեռի լրագրողական ու թղթակցական նոր գիտելիքներ ստանալ, հմտանալ բնապահպանական խնդիրների լուսաբանման ոլորտում, համագործակցության կամուրջներ ստեղծել`համապատասխան մասնագետների օգնությամբ:

Հարգելի բնասերներ.

Հրավիրում ենք բոլոր հետաքրքրված երիտասարդներին մասնակցել «Երիտասարդ կենսաբանների ասոցիացիա» ՀԿ-ի՝ ՀՀ Սպորտի և երիտասարդության հարցերի նախարարության աջակցությամբ իրականացվող «Ճանաչիր Հայաստանի անտառները» խորագրով բնապահպանական արշավին: Արշավը նպատակ ունի բարձրացնել երիտասարդության տեղեկացվածության մակարդակը մեր անտառների, դրանց դերի և նշանակության մասին:

Ծրագրի շրջանակներում նախատեսվում է կազմակերպել 5 սեմինար-արշավներ ՀՀ տարբեր մարզերի անտառային գոտիներում: Սեմինար- արշավները կազմված են լինելու երկու մասից` սեմինարից և արշավից: Սեմինարները հնարավորություն կտան մասնակիցներին տեսական գիտելիքներ ստանալ ՀՀ անտառների կենսաբազմազանության, անտառային էկոհամակարգերի դերի, նրանց պահպանության կարևորության մասին, որից հետո մասնակիցները կմեկնեն Տավուշի, Լոռու կամ Կոտայքի մարզի անտառային գոտիներից մեկը և տեղում մասնագետների աջակցությամբ կծանոթանան մեր բնաշխարհին:

We are looking for a curator to develop and manage digital access to the British Library’s Persian manuscript collection. This post offers a unique opportunity to become familiar with one of the largest and best-known collections in the world and to contribute to its future development and exploitation.

Building on work already completed, your main duties will be collating and putting online existing printed and non-printed catalogues, creating digital records, and working with colleagues on the web delivery of a digital catalogue. You will also assess and prioritise the collections with a view to identifying further cataloguing, digitisation and research projects, and together with the Iran Heritage Foundation and the UK Higher Education sector, you will seek to identify sources of funding, thus enabling strategic collaboration on the digitisation of UK Persian manuscript material to be developed at a national level.

With degree-level knowledge of Persian and a first degree qualification in a relevant discipline, you will have a thorough understanding of the literature, history, religion and culture of the Persianate world, research interests in a relevant field, and an aptitude for working with information technology. Cataloguing and related IT skills gained from previous experience in a research library or other academic environment would be advantageous. You will be articulate, highly motivated and well organised with good inter- personal skills.

The American University of Armenia (AUA) is pleased to announce the Akian
Foundation Scholarship Program for the 2012-2013 academic year. This need  and
merit-based scholarship program targets those students from socially vulnerable
groups. The Akian Foundation Scholarship Program enables its recipients to make
long-term contributions to Armenia’s scientific, political, and economic
development. The Akian Foundation Scholarship Program will provide a partial
tuition award for the normal duration of the degree program as long as good
academic standing is maintained.  Tuition payments will be made directly to the
awardee’s university.
The Akian Foundation Scholarship Program is intended for Bachelor students at
Yerevan State University (Yerevan branch), State Engineering University of
Armenia (Yerevan branch) and Yerevan State Mkhitar Heratsi Medical University,
with majors in Information Technologies, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and
Medical Sciences.  Along with the Bachelor students at the above universities,
the Akian Foundation Scholarship Program will award three (3) graduate students
with partial tuition for student in the same programs as listed above and at the
same universities.
For the 2012-2013 academic year, the Akian Foundation Scholarship Program is
restrictedto students who are permanent residents of Aragatzotn, Gegharquniq,
Kotayq and have completed their secondary education in these marzes.
Students wishing to be considered for this scholarship program must submit an
AUA Akian Scholarship Application Form along with all supporting documents by
August 10, 2012. A committee consisting of AUA faculty and alumni will review

Cinephilia/Cinephobia: New Mediations of Desire and Disgust University of Pittsburgh, November 9-11, 2012 Hosted by the Film Studies Graduate Student Organization (FSGSO)

Keynote by Christian Keathley, Professor of Film and Media Culture at Middlebury College. Keathley is author of Cinephilia and History, or The Wind in the Trees (Indiana University Press, 2006), and currently at work on a book titled The Mystery of Otto Preminger, under contract with IU Press.

Over the last decade, academic and popular film institutions have reignited debates surrounding cinephilia and its discontents. Recent pieces in Cinema Journal, Film Comment, as well as essay collections (2005's Cinephilia:

Movies, Love, and Memory) and monographs (Jonathan Rosenbaum's 2010 Goodbye Cinema, Hello Cinephilia: Film Culture in Transition), in modes both nostalgic and speculative, are (re)considering cinephilia not simply as love of the moving image, but as heterogeneous desires for cinema’s fragments, peculiarities, materialities, and affects. In other words, we can be certain that cinephilic (and cinephobic) attitudes and practices are quite alive today – but for whom, in what forms, and to what ends?

Attending these critical conversations are ever-encroaching “aversions”

toward cinema, including institutional prohibitions, censorship against filming and exhibition, modes of media refusal, and institutional objections to the moving image’s dissemination and preservation. If cinephilia has long raised tensions between academic and popular critical voices, between preservation and fetishism, and between film appreciation and critique, how are these tensions recovered or recast in contemporary film and media studies – particularly in light of digital media, new categories and avenues of “criticism,” and media studies’ present investment in affective response? Susan Sontag famously expressed the joy of cinematic immersion as a “kidnapping” that requires the physical experience of a darkened theater; how, then, does cinephobia stand to transform a desire for cinematic experience into a revolt against the powers of the cinematic apparatus and its affective control?

Following Marijke de Valck’s assertion that cinephilia endures “precisely because it forms a bridge between the biographical and the theoretical, the singular and the general, the fragment and the whole, the incomplete and the complete, and the individual and the collective,” our conference invites presentations that consider the enduring importance of cinephilia and cinephobia to film and media studies: both how these ideas have shaped and articulated our complex relations to moving images, and how they continue to raise new questions for our field.

Possible topics may include:

* Cinephilia/phobia through digital media (mash-ups and remixes; GIFs; Twitter, Tumblr, and online community)

* Cinephilic/phobic expressions in TV and other visual media (art, installation, fashion)

* Cinephilia/phobia and video games

* Desire, disgust, and pornography

* Cinephilic/phobic expressions in “non-visual” fields (literature, music,

philosophy)

* Queer spectatorship, historiography, and affect

* Transnational and subcultural cinephilias/phobias

* Affective modes of spectatorship, “fan” practices and fictions

* Obsession with and/or distrust of medium and site specificity (VHS, Super 16mm, theaters and exhibition practices, protest and destruction)

* Endangered and extinct media technology and practices

* Desire, disgust, and archival work

* Historical and contemporary forms of film criticism (from Cahiers to the video essay)

* Institutional and “underground” modes of exhibition (film festivals, award systems, art house, 3D)

* Phobia from within: media boycotts and oppositional viewing practices

The University is now inviting applications for five postdoctoral Research Fellow positions, one of which will be in the School of Arts and Social Sciences. These posts are full-time, fixed-term for two years and aimed at those at an early stage in their academic careers (for example those just finishing their PhD (or other equivalent doctorate studies) and those within 3 years of finishing their PhD) able to demonstrate strong academic potential through publication.
Applications are also welcome from candidates in relevant areas who do not have a PhD and/or are newly developing a research career and who can demonstrate that they meet the appointment criteria. The Fellowship scheme is not designed, however, to support academic staff who are eligible to seek other sources of funding for their research or whose development can be supported through sabbaticals and other routes.
University Research Fellows will be expected to undertake original work and publish their findings. Fellows may also be expected to undertake a strictly limited amount of teaching (in line with external Fellowship schemes, no more than 6 hours per week on teaching and/or teaching-related duties).
Selection criteria
Candidates will be considered against the following criteria:

� �Demonstrable excellence or potential for excellence in research, particularly through high quality publication;
� �The fit of the proposed research with the relevant School's research strengths;
� �The potential for the research to be continued beyond the period of the Fellowship and (where appropriate) to attract research funding.

Application procedure
Applications must be made online. The application must include a brief description of the proposed research. This should be no longer than 1,000 words, must be written by the candidate themselves and should set out a clear proposal for the research to be undertaken by the candidate during the Fellowship, including a strategy for publication. Candidates will not gain any advantage by providing excess documentation.
Candidates must identify the relevant School to host their research when submitting their application and are strongly advised to make contact informally in advance to establish that their research proposal fits the School's research interests.
