Testimony By a Nigerian on Why They Didn't vote Buhari before .
In 2011, GMB is not alone. He's supported by a team of volunteers online and offline who never voted for him before.
We didn't vote for him, because we didn't know. We didn't know that he supervised and birthed our only existing refineries. We didn't know that what he did in road construction while in the PTF hasn't been matched by 12yrs of the PDP, even though some claimed they were lopsided.
We didn't know that in his time as head of state he reduced inflation from 23% to 4%, by fiscal discipline and a homegrown economic team (not achieved under any other era, even military). We didn't know that there was no religious crisis while he led.

We didn't know that JJ Rawlings of Ghana took over 2yrs before him, and killed all the corrupt leaders, while GMB merely gave his own, long-term jail sentences.
We didn't know that the hospitals and universities around the country never witnessed as much benefits they got from the PTF from any government after or before his time.
We did not know, that this man despite serving in senior capacity in the oil sector, has no petrol station, much less a rig, refinery or an oil block like so many of our leaders. We never voted him, because we did not know.

But now we know... We know that he has followership in the north that money can't buy. We know that those who follow him are poor, and follow him out of hope and belief in his values. I have met old men who know him, who have said... "All I need from Buhari is his word, I can take it to the bank". Now we know that here is someone that has been in everything to make him an IBB or Danjuma, but didn't take that road.

We feared he was an Islamic fundamentalist, but he challenged us to provide any human being who can point at anything he did to show that. Now we know, that it's about the values... The only former head of state that does not own a house in Abuja . Educate someone today!

This does not make any sense to me. Your group went to the President of Nigeria and asked him what his plans for Nigeria were and he told you he has none, he told you that? From that statement you made, you know in your gut that you are a MEDICATED LIAR!!! Under what circumstances did you meet Jonathan before asking the question? What plan are you refering to? What is your own plan for Nigeria? Please stop living in the past.

Corruption: Rampant Political Corruption (Law Enforcement, Justice and Penal Systems, Legislative System, Misappropriation of Funds) Corruption is Embedded in Society. Date 9th March 2011. University of Warwick, Gibbet Hill Road, CV4 7AL.

Distinguished Guests,

Fellow Nigerians.

First, let me express my gratitude to the organizers of this event, for considering me worthy, to speak on the above subject matter. Your invitation came at a time when corruption against leaders is helping to fuel revolution in North Africa and Middle East. Back in Nigeria, the question of who can fight corruption will surely be a factor in the April 2011 election. I will dwell more on Nigeria. Discussing Nigeria’s corruption, can take the whole time and space. Therefore, I will use few examples to buttress my points.

Let me start by defining corruption. According to the Oxford Compact English dictionary, second edition, revised. Edited by Catherine Soanes. It means; willing to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain. Evil or morally depraved.  Transparency International (TI) defines corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. This definition encompasses corrupt practices in both the public and private sectors.

Corruption is all over the world. The difference between Nigeria and the rest of the world is how the system treats offenders. For example, Bernard Madoff committed a fraud of $65bn (£38bn) in America; he was sentenced to 150 years in jail. Olabode George committed a fraud of over N85 billion naira in Nigeria, and was given only 2.5 years (two and half years jail sentence).

Celebrating Corruption and Criminality in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, criminality is celebrated. Criminals are given chieftaincy titles, made deacons and deaconesses in churches. Using Olabode George as example, when he was released from prison on 26th February 2011. Newspaper adverts were placed about his coming out of prison. He celebrated a thanksgiving church service that was televised live on a national television. Dignitaries that attended the church service were, Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State PDP Chairman and top members etc. On 1st March 2011, the same Olabode George appeared on a presidential rally in Lagos where the President acknowledged his presence. Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, former MD/CEO of Oceanic Bank was jailed 6months for stealing N54 billion naira.

International Recognition As A Corrupt Country.

“We are internationally recognized for corruption, inefficiency, business uncertainty and infrastructural decay”. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, ex head of state. “The World Bank estimates the country’s generals and gangster politicians stole $300 billion in the three decades to 2006”(Time Magazine, May 3rd 2010 Edition, Page 42). Nigeria appeared on the list as 10th most corrupt country in the world, by Transparency International corruption perception index of 2010.

Political Corruption.

Former President of Nigeria, late Musa Yar’ Adua acknowledged publicly that the election that brought him to power were marred with irregularities. The following State governors (Peter Obi, Anambra State. Amaechi, Rivers State. Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State. Rauf Aregbesola, Osun State) had to battle very hard thru the courts to reclaim their mandates. As we speak, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had discovered 500,000 double registrants on the just concluded voters registration exercise. The People’s Democratic Party, the ruling party has over 100 court cases arising from aggrieved members, who felt cheated from their just concluded internal party primary elections. Till date, no one has gone to jail for political corruption. Ex Vice President, Atiku Abubakar was denied access to campaign to some People’s Democratic Party delegates during the party’s primary in Abuja. Over $5,000 (five thousand US Dollars) was given to each PDP delegate at the presidential primary in Abuja, to vote for either of the aspirants then. The PDP delegates were over 3,500 (three thousand five hundred people). I will leave you to multiply the figures.

Corruption Within The Law Enforcement Agencies (Police).

Former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun was convicted of N20 Billion naira fraud and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. Another Ex Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero was caught trying to smuggle out N200 million naira out of Abuja. Assistant Inspector General (AIG) late Raphael Ige, led a team of police officers that kidnapped/abducted Dr Chris Ngige, then sitting Governor of Anambra State. The list is endless.

Justice and Penal Systems.

“The greatest incitement to crime is the hope of escaping punishment” Marcus Cicero. The justice system appears to be lenient otherwise how can you explain the sentences given to people mentioned above. In 2009, Justice Marcel Awokulehin of the Federal High Court, Asaba discharged and acquitted former Governor James Ibori on all 170 count charges of corruption, money laundering, bribery etc. A London Court indicted Ibori on the same charges he was set free in Nigeria. Ibori’s associates have been jailed in London. Justice Kastina-Alu (Chief Justice of Nigeria) was accused of asking Justice Ayo Isa Salami to compromise the Court of Appeal’s verdict on the protracted Sokoto Governorhip legal tussle.

Mr. Micheal Aondoakaa former Nigeria Attorney General and Minister of Justice presured the United Kingdom Authoities to withdraw criminal charges against former Delta State Governor (Jame Ibori). Aondoakaa used his position to frustrate former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Boss (Nuhu Ribadu) from fighting corruption. He helped to drive Ribadu to exile. Aondoakaa was also alledged to have bribed supreme court judges with about $20 million dollars to return the late President (Yar’ Adua) as the winner of 2007 presidential election.

Legislative System.

It took the National Assembly over 10 years to pass Freedom of Information Bill. Though, it’s only the lower house that has so far passed the bill. The Senate is yet to pass the bill. Other bills are still lying fallow at the National Assembly chambers. Ladies and gentlemen, I can go on and on. Simply put, corruption is embedded in our society. However, every problem has a solution.

The Way Forward.

The solution(s) is to elect credible leaders who can fight corruption without fear or favour. Permit me at this juncture to recommend you Buhari/Bakare for Presidential and Vice Presidential positions come April 2011 election. Vote Buhari/Bakare, Vote CPC Party For Presidential Election.

SparkPeople: Lowering Your Blood Pressure

Week 4 of 9
Causes of High Blood Pressure: Controllable Risk Factors

Factors that you can control are related to your lifestyle--the choices you make each day about what to eat and whether or not to exercise. These are areas of your life where you can take control to improve your blood pressure and enhance your overall health.

Controllable Risk Factors
  • Your diet. A diet high in sodium, saturated fat and cholesterol, and low in fiber, whole foods, and minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium) can increase blood pressure. Eating a low-sodium, low-fat diet that is rich in whole foods and other nutrients can help.
  • Your activity level. Sedentary individuals have a higher risk for hypertension. Regular exercise can lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
  • Your weight. Being obese (a Body Mass Index over 30) increases your risk of developing high blood pressure. Dropping just 10% of your body weight can have positive effects on blood pressure.
  • Your stress levels. Studies show that chronic stress (and "Type A" personality traits) can elevate blood pressure. Exercise, meditation, and yoga can help reduce and manage stress and blood pressure.
  • Your drinking habits. Moderate to heavy drinking (more than 1-2 drinks daily) can dramatically increase blood pressure and other health risks. Health experts recommend no more than one drink a day for women, and no more than two drinks per day for men.
  • Your smoking habits. Smoking is the leading preventable cause of heart disease, due to its effects on your arteries, heart, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Quitting can stop (and potentially reverse) a lot of the existing damage to your body, and improve your blood pressure.
When you have other existing health conditions, you are compounding your risk of serious complications and disease if you don't lower your blood pressure. Add high risk factors into the picture (family history, age, and race) and your risk is compounded even more. The good thing is that you can break that chain of progressive disease at any point by changing the lifestyle choices above.

Buhari's Six Questions For Goodluck Jonathan/Soyinka’s Comment.

1) Can Mr President explain what happened to the case of N104m seized from Nancy Ebere Nwosu who allegedy swore to an affidat to the EFCC that she was laundering money for Dame Patience Jonathan?

2) What about the announcement by the then EFCC spokesman,Mr Osita Nwajah on September 11, 2006  that the sum of 13.5m USD was seized from another associate of Mrs Jonathan which the anti-graft body said belonged to the now first lady?

3) Any explanation on the several billions of Naira which DSP Alamiesegha left in Bayelsa coffers as at the time of his impeachment  which was allegedy squandered in months by Jonathan without anything to show for it?

4) Who presided over the FEC meeting in October  2009  where a 4 km runnway at Abuja Airport was awarded for N64b?Late Predident Yaradua was already in Saudi Hospital as at the time!

5 What happened to the 30b USD Yaradua left in the excess crude account that is virtually empty now?

6 How come it  is only Nigeria under Jonathan whose foreign reserve is depleting among oil producing nations at a time of all time high increase in prices of oil products?

Prof. Wole Soyinka’s Comments.

"It'll take total blindness to vote PDP in 2011. Only 4 sets of people can vote for them;

(1) Those who are intellectually blind.

(2) Those who are blinded by ethnicity.

(3) Those who are blinded by corruption & therefore afraid of d unknown, should power change hands; and finally

(4) Those who are suffering from a combination of the above terminal sicknesses"

SparkPeople: Lowering Your Blood Pressure

Week 5 of 9
Do's & Don'ts for Lower Blood Pressure

While you can't do anything your genes or age, you can change your future with a few heart-friendly lifestyle choices. All it takes is a few simple adjustments to your lifestyle to help lower your blood pressure.

Start by trying to incorporate these do's and don'ts. Be sure to always work with your doctor to help control your blood pressure, and to take medications that have been prescribed to you.

Blood Pressure Do's
  • DO reduce your sodium intake. Too much sodium (which you'll learn about next week) can increase your blood pressure. Ideally, you should consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day.
  • DO eat more potassium-rich foods. Potassium helps regulate body fluids and blood pressure. Most adults need 4,700 milligrams each day, but people with hypertension should try to consume even more--up to 6,000 milligrams daily.
  • DO eat more calcium-rich foods. Some research shows that calcium deficiencies can increase blood pressure. Aim for at least 1,200 milligrams each day.
  • DO track your magnesium intake. This mineral helps control blood pressure. Women need over 320 milligrams each day, while men need more--over 420 milligrams.
  • DO eat more nutrient-rich, whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain products, beans and legumes, lean meats and low-fat dairy products.
Blood Pressure Don'ts
  • DON'T smoke. It increases your blood pressure and damages your heart.
  • DON'T make exercise excuses. Increases in overall physical activity, even in small bouts, will help you improve your numbers.
  • DON'T forget to your numbers. Healthy individuals should get their blood pressure tested at least once every two years, but people with hypertension should do this more frequently. Continue to visit your health care provider for regular check-ups and medical advice.
See, you can develop heart-healthy habits without feeling deprived or training for a marathon. Take your time making small changes, as you and your doctor see fit, focusing on a few habits at a time.

On Jega: I Reserve My Comments.

With reference to, today’s (2nd April, 2011) very costly electoral disappointment, I will reserve my comments. No person(s), group(s), institution(s), government(s) state(s) etc are above mistakes. Human, mechanical, tactical, logistics etc errors could easily occur. However, the new date Monday, 4th April 2011/the actual election will vindicate or vilify Jega.

The stakes are high. Nothing less than a free, fair, credible and transparent election will be acceptable. Failure is not an option in this 2011 election. Nigerians and the entire world are watching. May God bless Nigeria.

'Historic' deal to avoid government shutdown

WASHINGTON – Perilously close to a government shutdown, President Barack Obama and congressional leaders reached a historic agreement late Friday night to cut about $38 billion in spending and avert the first federal closure in 15 years............
Reid, Obama and Boehner all agreed a shutdown posed risks to an economy still recovering from the worst recession in decades...............Obama canceled a Friday trip to Indianapolis — and a weekend family visit to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia — and kept in touch with both Boehner and Reid................

Office of the Press Secretary
11:04 P.M. EDT
THE PRESIDENT:  Good evening.  Behind me, through the window, you can see the Washington Monument, visited each year by hundreds of thousands from around the world.  The people who travel here come to learn about our history and to be inspired by the example of our democracy -- a place where citizens of different backgrounds and beliefs can still come together as one nation.
Tomorrow, I’m pleased to announce that the Washington Monument, as well as the entire federal government, will be open for business.  And that's because today Americans of different beliefs came together again................................
Today we acted on behalf of our children’s future.  And next week, when 50 eighth graders from Colorado arrive in our nation’s capital, I hope they get a chance to look up at the Washington Monument and feel the sense of pride and possibility that defines America -- a land of many that has always found a way to move forward as one.

Thank you.

Buhari's Lagos Declaration.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I am Muhammadu Buhari, and today I am 69 years old; and I am sure I don’t have to remind you that I have fought many battles in my life. I
have fought drift and purposelessness in this nation. I have fought corruption
and indiscipline. I have fought indolence and the betrayal of trusts. I have
fought the Nigerian civil war and struggled for the unity of this country in
many other ways. I have had the fortune and privilege of managing national
resources in various capacities as a military commander, as a state
governor, as a minister, as head of the petroleum trust fund, and as the Head of
state of this great country. And in all that I have been and done, I have never
touched a kobo of public funds. I say this without pride and with all sense of
responsibility and humility, but I challenge anyone in the race for the
leadership of this country then and now to dare to make same claim"

The inviduals talking about Buhari and all these past presidents are confused human being. Obasanjo did it because of circumstances surrounding situations as at the time, but we are through with it. Those supporting these able looters are opportunists who are looking for a way to get in and milk the country of what is left of her. My people!!! please be awake at all times!!!

Message From Buhari/Bakare Diaspora Team.

The Presidential Poll in Danger of Derailment!

The Congress for Progressive Change wishes to bring to your notice matters of urgent national importance.Yesterday, two men (Messrs Akinlolu Akinto and Habila Stephen) were caught with a van loaded with about 100,000 ballot papers for the Presidential elections of Saturday the 16th April, 2011. On further investigation by the Police, they averred that about five of them were involved in the same business. On thorough search of the Printing Press, an additional one million copies were discovered. In total, twelve people have been arrested and are in Police custody at Utako Police Station, Abuja. Mallam Usman Umar the DPO informed that the case has already been transferred to the Force Headquarters. The name of the Printing Press is TULIP PRESS belonging to Alhaji Bello Gwandu, the former Managing Director of Nigerian  Ports Authority (NPA).

It was also alleged the same TULIP Press was responsible for the fake ballot papers found in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara and other parts of North West.In another potential ‘show stopper’ for the presidential elections, our impeccable sources pointed that a lorry load of ballot papers had been removed from INEC stores to the Aso rock villa, ostensibly as samples for the view of Candidate Goodluck Jonathan. When INEC was confronted with this allegation, the veracity of which was confirmed we were told the matter is  still under investigation!

In another related development, some presidential ballot papers were thumb-printed on a farm along Ningi road in Bauchi. Also, ballot papers are alleged as being printed at the Government house in Gombe.Meanwhile, there is a discovery that where most of the later-in-the-day inflation of electoral figures came from were the satellite polling Units.

Satellite Polling Units are meant to accommodate the excess of 500 that a polling unit should have. Where these are, can only be known to INEC. It is the figures from these that are inflated.  For instance, there are 537 Polling Units (PUs) in Abuja but the satellite units are about 120. Should that not explain why many Nigerians went to their Polling booths without seeing their names on the register? The names are in the ubiquitous satellite polling units. It explains why you will read of CPC winning in Abuja and suddenly, later in the day, the lead cancelled out by over 50,000 votes! PDP did not win up to ten out of the regular 537 PUs. So where did the inflated over 50,000 votes come from?

We know this presidential election is a ‘do or die’ for some because they have a lot to explain to the Nigerian people, should they lose. That is why no effort is spared in ensuring a pyrrhic victory. Even opposition party agents were compromised with huge amount of money. The case of Mr. Anene, the uncompromising INEC returning officer for the Anambra central senatorial elections, is an eye-opener at the massive horse-trading that takes place between the Polling Unit (after electoral proceedings) and the final collation and announcement at the collation center.

As a party, we shall continue to appeal to our numerous supporters not to be discouraged by these happenings but to be determined more than ever to be prepared to give the final push for the espousal of a new Nation.God bless Nigeria.

Rotimi Fashakin. (Engr.)

National Publicity Secretary, CPC.

Subject: Parenting In Nigeria

Friends, Let me add the benefit of my time as a student and then resident in the

UK - and I live in Lagos now. The first thing that I discovered about UK-born,
white, English undergraduates was that all of them did holiday or weekend job to

support themselves - including the children of millionaires amongst them. It is
the norm over there - regardless how wealthy their parents are. And I soon
discovered that virtually all other foreign students did the same - the
exception being those of us status-conscious Nigerians.

I also watched Richard Branson (owner of Virgin Airline)speaking on the
Biography Channel and, to my amazement, he said that his young children travel
in the economy class -even when the parents (he and his wife) are in upper
class.

Richard Branson is a billionaire in Pound Sterling. A quick survey would show
you that only children from Nigeria fly business or upper class to commence
their studies in the UK. No other foreign students do this.

There is no aircraft attached to the office of the prime minister in the UK - he

travels on BA. And the same goes for the Royals. The Queen does not have an
aircraft for her exclusive use.

These practices simply become the culture which the next generation carries
forward. Have you seen the car that Kate Middleton(the lady soon to marry Prince

William) drives? VW Golf or something close to it.  But there's one core
difference them and us(generally speaking). They (even the billionaires among
them) work for their money,we steal ours!

If we want our children to bring about the desired change we have been praying
for on behalf of our dear country, then please, please let's begin now and teach

them to work hard so they can stand alone and most importantly be content, and
not having to "steal", which seem to be the norm these days.

"30 is the new 18", which seem to be the new age for testing out the world in
Nigeria now.  That seems to be an unspoken but widely accepted mindset among the

last 2 generations of parents in Nigeria.

At age 18 years, a typical young adult in the UK leaves the clutches of his/her
parents for the University, chances are, that's the last time those parents will

ever play "landlord" to their son or daughter except of course the occasional
home visits during the academic year.

At 21 years and above or below, the now fully grown and independent minded adult

graduates from University, searches for employment, gets a job and shares a flat

with other young people on a journey into becoming fully fledged adults.

I can hear the echo of parents saying, well, that is because the UK economy is
thriving, safe, well structured and jobs are everywhere? I beg to differ and I
ask that you kindly hear me out.  I am UK trained Recruitment Consultant and I
have been practicing for the past 10 years in Nigeria.  I have a broad range of
experience from recruiting graduates

to executive director level of large corporations.  In addition, I talk from the

point of view of someone with relatively privileged upbringing.

Driven to school every day, had my clothes washed for me, was barred from taking

any part-time job during my A-levels so that I could concentrate on studying for

my exams?! BUT, I got the opportunity to live apart from my parents from age 18
and the only time I came back home to stay was for 3 months before I got
married!

Am I saying that every parent should wash their hands off their children at age
18? No, not at all, of course, I enjoyed the savings that I made from living on
and off at my parent's house in London - indeed that is the primary reason for
my being able to buy myself a 3 bedroom flat in London at age 25 with absolutely

no direct financial help from my parents!

For me, pocket money stopped at age 22, not that it was ever enough for my
lifestyle to compete with Paris Hilton's or Victoria Beckham's. Meanwhile today,

we have Nigerian children who have never worked for 5 minutes in their lives
insisting on flying "only" first or business class, carrying the latest Louis
Vuitton ensemble, Victoria 's Secret underwear and  wearing Jimmy Choo's, fully
paid for by their "loving" parents.

I often get calls from anxious parents, my son graduated 2 years ago and is
still looking for a job, can you please assist! Oh really! So where exactly is
this "child" is my usual question. Why are you the one making this call dad/mum?

I am yet to get a satisfactory answer, but between you and me, chances are that
big boy is cruising around Lagos with a babe dressed to the nines, in his dad's
spanking new SUV with enough "pocket money" to put your salary to shame.  It is
not at all strange to have a 28 year old who has NEVER worked for a day in his
or her life in Nigeria but "earns" a six figure "salary" from parents for doing
absolutely nothing.

I see them in my office once in a while, 26 years old with absolutely no skills
to sell, apart from a shiny CV, written by his dad's secretary in the office. Of

course, he has a driver at his beck and call and he is driven to the job
interview. We have a fairly decent conversation and we get to the inevitable
question - so, what salary are you looking to earn? Answer comes straight out -
N250,000.00. I ask if that is per month or per annum.

Of course it is per month. Oh, why do you think you should be earning that much
on your first job? Well, because my current pocket money is N200,000.00 and I
feel that an employer should be able to pay me more than my parents. I try very
hard to compose myself, over parenting is in my opinion the greatest evil
handicapping the Nigerian youth.

It is at the root of our national malaise.
We have a youth population of tens of millions of who are being "breastfed and
diapered" well into their 30s.  Even though the examples I have given above are
from parents of considerable affluence, similar patterns can be observed from
Abeokuta to Adamawa! Wake up mum! Wake up dad! You are practically loving your
children to death! No wonder corruption continues to thrive. We have a society
of young people who have been brought up to expect something for nothing, as if
it were a birth right.

I want to encourage you to send your young men and women (anyone over 20 can
hardly be called a child!) out into the world, maybe even consider reducing or
stopping the pocket money to encourage them to think, explore and strive. Let
them know that it is possible for them to succeed without your "help".

Take a moment to think back to your own time as a young man/woman, what if
someone had kept spoon feeding you, would you be where you are today? No tree
grows well under another tree, children that are not exposed to challenges,
don't cook well. That is why you see adults complaining, "my parents didn't buy
clothes for me this christmas", ask him/her how old-30+. Because of the
challenges we faced in our youth, we are where and what we today, this syndrome-

my children will not suffer what I suffered is destroying our tomorrow.
Deliberately reduce their allowance or mum-don't cook on Saturday till late
afternoon or evening-do as occasion deserve.

I learnt the children of a former Nigerian head of state with all the stolen
(billions) monies in their custody, still go about with security escort as
wrecks. They are on drugs, several times because of the drug, they collapse in
public places. The escort will quickly pack them and off they go, what a life.
No one wants to marry them. Anyone who stops  learning is old, whether at twenty

or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is
to keep your mind young.- Henry Ford. Hard work does not kill, everything in
Nigeria is going down, including family settings. It is time to cook our
children, preparing them for tomorrow. We are approaching the season in Nigeria
where only the RUGGED, will survive. How will your ward fare?

If the present generation of Nigerian pilots retire, will you fly a plane flown
by a young Nigerian pilot, If trained in Nigeria? People now have first class,
who cannot spell GRADUATE or read an article without bomb blast! Which Way
Nigeria!, Which Way Nigerians!! Is this how we will ALL sit and watch this
country SINK?

Reporter Jenny Kleeman and director James Jones travel from Italy to Africa to reveal how human traffickers are using black magic to coerce and trap Nigerian women into a life of prostitution in Europe.

Women are made to swear an oath of loyalty to their traffickers in an elaborate ritual that compels them to pay back extortionate sums of money. If they ever break free or report their traffickers, they believe they will be cursed.

The team begins their journey in northern Italy. As many as 20,000 Nigerian women work as prostitutes on Italy's streets.

They meet Rita, who tells Kleeman she sleeps with up to 10 men a day, seven days a week, for 20 euros a time. After five years of prostitution, Rita still hasn't paid off the 50,000 Euro debt she owes her traffickers. She is also forced to pay them 300 Euros a month in 'rent' to solicit from her particular patch of pavement beside a highway.

Rita says customers had beaten her badly in the past but she has no choice but to continue working on the streets. She tells Kleeman she has sworn to repay the debt to her traffickers in a traditional West African religious ritual which she calls 'juju'. She fears she and her family will die or go mad if she incurs the wrath of the spirits by breaking her oath.

The Unreported World team flies to the southern Nigerian state of Edo, where 80 per cent of Nigerians trafficked into Europe begin their journey. In the village of Ewhoini they learn that almost every family has a relative abroad.

Kleeman and Jones meet Elonel, who tells them that he earns money by helping traffic women from here to work for his sister in Italy. Elonel introduces Kleeman to a woman who's about to make the trip.

Vivian, 23, used to make her living selling tomatoes at the local market. She tells Kleeman that there are no jobs in her town so she has decided to go to Europe to earn money to take care of her brothers and sisters at home. She knows she will have to pay her traffickers back, and that she might have to work as a prostitute to do it at first, but has no idea how much they will ask for.

Vivian says that Elonel is her boyfriend. He's made all the travel plans for her and has booked her in to see a juju priest. She believes the juju ceremony will bring her luck, but she will also swear an oath of loyalty to Elonel and his sister during the ritual that will ensure they get paid whatever sum they ask of her.

Elonel tells Kleeman that he doesn't feel at all guilty about sending his girlfriend to a life of prostitution as he simply needs the money.

The team are given rare access to film the juju ceremony. The juju priest, 'Dr' Stanley, marks Vivian's body and makes her kneel at his shrine as she swears her oath. He claims he has the power to give women cancer if they break the promises they make before him.

For those like Vivian who believe in juju, there's no way of hiding from the spirits. Dr Stanley tells Kleeman that countless others have sworn oaths of loyalty to different traffickers at his shrine.

Getting women to give evidence against their traffickers is a serious challenge because of the conspiracy of silence created by the ritual. The team joins the government's anti-trafficking agency as they conduct a special juju ceremony to free a repatriated victim from her oath.

Before Vivian leaves Nigeria, Kleeman has a final opportunity to warn her about the reality of life on Italy's streets. When Kleeman tells her she'll be working for years as a prostitute to pay off an extortionate sum, Vivian doesn't believe her.

Her determination to improve her life has made it easy for traffickers to exploit her, and the juju oath has made it impossible for her to change her mind.

Who is to blame for all these? The society has failed. Our government has failed. The family system has failed woefully. Where do we start from? It's very confusing. Husbands even send their wives to Italy to prostitute. And the wives accept. Sad. Very sad!

Sad. Very sad!
