(con't) A unit on TG 4036, the city of Peoria IT Group, said he had talked to
someone and had gotten a TG added to the White Tanks site. So check around, we
may find some changes to TG's, like encryption status being changed or new TG's.

I can only hope this increases the signal strength/reliability.

Since they went to the 7xx Mhz RWC-G, my signal goes from 1 bar to 5 and
in-between just sitting in a spot.
Totally garbled transmissions, missed words, etc.

What make/model of scanner do you use? I have a GRE PSR-500, and I've recently
changed the Threshold Hi and Threshold Lo settings to 99 and 90, respectively.
This may be helping to lock onto only the strongest transmitter site, reducing
multi-path crap.

If we hear or notice an agency doing something right why not give them a shout
out  or if they do something wrong let them know

last night two Cochise sheriff units drove past at a high rate of speed. There
was a rollover crash on Davis Road.   Had something like that happened up in the
Phoenix area they would have closed the road.   Cochise county deputies were
letting traffic go by one lane at a time.   155.52 and 453.85 are the
frequencies for Cochise county Sheriff....

I had to make a 50 mile trip to Lowes in Sierra Vista (that is the closest one)
to get some plumbing parts and get some keys copied.  When I came back after
having dinner,  the accident scene was still there but in the process of being
cleaned up....they were still letting traffic creep by on one lane....

had Davis road been closed I would have had to detour either through Bisbee or
north to Douglas then back to highway 191.
CCSO did a good job or tending to the scene while also keeping traffic moving.
At most there were no more than 2 or 3 cars waiting to be allowed to get past
the accident....

JOHN

Sometimes you see a combination of highway patrol border partol and sheriff at
some accident scenes.  usually they will be on the same frequency.  BP will
ocasionally be heard on the cochise sheriff frequencies.

Correct! Equally as important as a good antenna is good quality coax.
RG-58 is terrible for anything above 400mhz unless used in very short
runs in a vehicle. For a home scanner good quality coax is a must! I
have used Jafa Tech 400 low loss coax for years and have great results
on runs up to 75 feet on 800 mhz. Check them out .. good quality and
reasonable price. Good luck.

Digital antennas? I must be using the wrong antennas on my radios since I use
regular old antennas on my digital radios.

Please explain your digital antenna comment.

Hi Kenneth ..

The 900mhz frequencies are links to remote mountain tops where they
don't have microwave links. San Diego has all of there 42mhz channels
but has operated on the San Diego County RWS for several years. The new
700mhz channels are not trunked, they are are standard digital. They are
low power, working on roughly 5 watts broadcasting from the new
handhelds and the cars. No 700mhz for CHP on any mountain tops.

Also, not sure what you ment the cars having been retrofitted with
digital antennas? Antennas don't care weather it's an analog or digital
feed. Also .. the only "AM" frequencies the CHP uses are in their
Aircraft. No "AM" freqs in the cars .. just low band radios .. and now
the biggest problem with the new statewide system the CHP is slowly
building is the baseloaded low band antennas will not take the freq
spread from 39.xx mhz to 45.xx mhz for some of the new channels.

Enjoy your listening .. CHP is a fun agency to listen to. I like the
challenge due to their set up. You never know what you'll hear at what
location due to the low band skip.

Mike

I've recently started scanning PPD on a BCD996T.

I have seen all the district chase talkgroups except CO5 500 - which I assume is
chase for the 500 precinct. I would expect it to be fairly active given 500
precinct history, but nada. It is set up as TGID 2963.

I programmed in the system from radio reference using FreeSCAN.

The only sites I have programmed are Simulcast A and North Mtn High (not sure
why I put that one in - what is it, any way? North Mountain, or the high
school?).

Any ideas what's going on?

Tks in advance

Yesterday I did hear Airevac 5 doing a patch on Med 5 when transportation a
patient from a crash on I-8. So there is some minor use of EMCOMS. Many, many
years ago (25+) when I was working on the White Mountain Apache Reservation
that's all we used to communicate with our hospital & those off the reservation.
Yea folks we did have ambulances before there were cell phones...LOL

Skip? From DPS Ranger? When did they change to CB.

The Emscom portion the DPS manages has repeaters on it throughout the state.
You will usually hear the Ranger Helicopters on Med 5 which is the main
frequency they monitor. It is also the contact frequency for ambulances to
request patches on when not in the Phoenix or Tucson area.

Native One advised alarm that they did not have 800/900 capabilities, so "Alarm"
performed a courtesy patch to Phoenix Memorial Hospital, 1301 S 7th Ave #200,
Phoenix, AZ.

Hi All,

Just back from a visit to NAU and noticed the Flagstaff Public Safety System and
the old NAU trunked system are totally dead. Not a peep on them, while
monitoring for four days.

However, the newer (I think?) Flagstaff Regional Public Safety Cooperative
System was very busy with Flagstaff PD, NAU PD and Flagstaff public works.

Sorry if this is old news to you all.

Thanks,
Bill

last may and June I saw the chirachua mountains burn for most of May and June
then in June also got lots of smoke from the Monument fire around Sierra
Vista.  The winds generelly blow from west to east..  The smoke from the
Chirachua or Horseshoe fire was carried east into New Mexico while the Monument
fire smoke fanned out to the east and Northeast.  Much of the valley (Sulphur
Springs Valley) did have dense smoke.

I will say that one good thing about the 9-11 fallout is that there is better
interagency communication...  DPS, Sheriff,  Forest Service and Border patrol
as well as the SVPD were all on a common frequency  460.375 or 460.3625.

Cochise County sheriff have both VHF and UHF antennas on their vehicles.  They
use pickup trucks blazers or broncos as their patrol vehicles instead of  cars.
DPS uses a mix of cars and SUV's   BP has a few cars but mor often you sen
them driving SUV's or pickups often a F-250

Does anyone know where I can find info on the fires going on in the state? I
think I have the freqs. for the one near Kingman, but for the life of me can't
find the info I used to have.
