When, What and Where to Swing it! Swing dancing in Austin Texas.

AustinSwing is an YahooGroup that has been in existence since the late 1990s, the original moderators where Jason Baker and Matt Stephans. Over the course of it’s history, it has served as a way for local dancers to promote local dance events. It currently has over 1,000 active subscribers. With the group, you can post messages to the list and view them online, as email or as one daily digest email.

Recently, the Austin Swing Syndicate inherited control over the group and we were appointed as Moderators. We think it is a good to time to review with everybody a few things regarding the group.

1. Most member’s posts are moderated. This is not because we don’t trust you, this is due to issues created in the past by spam and virsuses in the past. As a result, please keep in mind that last minute posts may not be cleared in time (although the probably will). A key thing for the list is that we don’t allow it to have too much noise that it causes people to unsubscribe.
2. Messages need to reference an upcoming dance event of some sort, this includes, weekly lessons/dances, out of town events, and one of events such as parties and club shows.
3. AustinSwing is not the forum for opinions and chatter. We will probably not approve them.
4. We will be working to spread the work to more dancers about the group in coming weeks. While Facebook and other forums are effective, you can never be sure that everybody you need to reach is on Facebook or associated with the right people. We also will be keeping this an YahooGroup, and not Google or another provider, simply due to the large number of subscribers we have, moving over 1,000 people is quite a project.
