It'll be sometime after 7 before I can get there.

With my new job/work schedule, I won't be able to help with Girl
Scout's on June 7.

Hi everyone,
Girl Scout Day was cancelled by the Girl Scouts! They only had 30 girls
split over the day and they had a minimum of 50 girls to hold the event.

They have asked to reschedule it for Sept- they are looking at Sept
20.As soon as they finalize the date I will let you know. I had spoken
to several of you individually but this way is so much quicker.
It seems they have a new marketing person and Sarah, whom we met with
in January, was expecting her to do her job and be drumming up the
girls- wrong! Sarah sends her apologies and hopes we can work together
in the fall. Anyway- your Saturday is now your own and I do appreciate
all of the support and enthusiasm for this project.
See you all soon,
Ellen

Hi. I'm Brittany Holmes, a summer intern with the New River Highlands
RC&D. We are planning on getting the rest of the plants for the Rural
Retreat Rain Gardens this week, and it would be great if any could
help with planting. If you could help plant on Thursday this week let
me know what time is best, but if Thursday doesn't work, let me know
about Friday.

Thanks so much,
Brittany Holmes

Hi all,
It is time for our monthly meeting and I have a group scheduled for
dinner that same evening so how about a meeting/cookout at the pond
this coming Saturday evening, the 14th? We haven't had a get together
for a while and I think the chapter could buy the meat and if the
rest of us could bring a dessert, veggie or salad it will be an easy
get together.

Good news on the Master Naturalist program and funding - it has been
was approved and we are viable for the next 3 years. I am meeting in
Charlottesville with the state steering committee Tuesday and so we
will have lots to talk about for the conference. By the way all
registration, finiancial transactions etc. will be taken care of by
VT- one huge thing off our plate. I also have lots of updated info
about the conference particulars have a DVD which we can use as part
of an Advanced training, after we eat and have our meeting. Spouses
welcome by the way ! Let me know if you will be able to attend.

I am hoping a few of you may be able to help Brittany and David at
the rain garden. It was planted and then mulched by the 5th graders
at Rural Retreat Elementary.

Be sure to keep track of your hours and get get an update of your
hours by the middle of the month; In July I will need to compose a
list of your hours.
Thanks,
Ellen

After 10 1/2 months, the cecropia moth we found in the hickory tree by the pond
has finally
emerged. It's a male and we wish him the best of luck finding a mate in the next
week
(before he dies-cecropia moths, like some other moths, don't eat as adults).

Greetings!

I picked up the sign for the Rural Retreat Elementary School Rain Garden, and it is ready to be installed.

I propose a workday, this Saturday, September 6th to install the RRES Rain Garden sign and to do some late summer maintenance (I will bring a small load of mulch to mulch the garden near the rain garden), weeding, sprucing up, etc.

We probably won't need to work for more than 2 or 3 hours.

Also, the a bus load of RC&D Council members from across the Southeast will be touring the RRES Rain Garden on Friday, September 12th at 8:15 am.  Are a couple of Master Naturalists available that morning to help host the event?  You should be through no later than 9:30am.

Please respond with your availability for either event.  If a Friday evening workday or Sunday afternoon workday works better than Saturday morning, I'm flexible.

Hi all,
Yes we did have a mix up. The April meeting was to be at Pat's and then
switch to the farm since the weather was nice. I checked the calendar
on the group site and it was on for tonight, here at the farm.
However the automatic reminder never got to me(I just checked my email
to see if it come and I had ignored it).
We do need to have a meeting, there is alot to discuss and even before
the Oct. event we have the Girl Scout Day, June 7, that several of you
will be working on. How about trying next Thursday, out here. Make it 7
and I will have some food for us. If you are going to be working on
Girl Scout Day come a bit early and we can hash out some locations for
the different activities.
I will also send this out directly to those members who are still not
on the group site.
Plus David has some things to discuss about the rain garden project.
Please respond so I know you received this message.
Sorry for the mix up,
Ellen

Subject: [BeagleRidgeMasterNaturalist] meeting

Hi all,
Yes we did have a mix up.
Sorry for the mix up,
Ellen

We have a quorum then.  At least Ellen, Will, Mary, David, and possibly Suzie will meet at RRES at 5pm.  I will bring mulch.  Does anyone have post-hole diggers?

Thanks,

We will meet at 12:00 noon at the Recreation / Meeting center.  If you have any of the following tools, please bring them: shovel, pick ax (or pick mattock) rock bar / digging bar

Call me on my cell phone (below) if you have questions about the weather.

Hi! I had a great walk with my dogs this morning around the walking trail. I
saw a Great Blue Heron and a Belted Kingfisher. The daisies, milkweed, Queen
Ann's Lace and Yarrow are blooming. I also had a couple bites of ripe
blackberry. I'm sure you guys could identify much more--this is just what I
noticed with my 4 dogs on leash. Anyway, thanks to everyone for all your hard
work there, it is really a nice walk.
Hey, do we have a meeting this week?

Hi Tammy,
Glad you had a good day on the trail. There is still so much to be done but it is a pretty site for the public to experience the "wilds" while still in town. I wish more people would use it.
Yes we have a meeting, Eric is supposed to be sending out an email. Will you be helping with the group on the 16th? It would be great to have you talk to them about rehabbing animals.
I will try to give you a call this afternoon when I am done at school.
Thanks,
Ellen
