Please see below about information on volunteering to help families affected by the fires in San Diego
.The email specifically addresses the need for bilingual volunteers but people interested in volunteering in general can contact Denise Garcia at denised1224@...for more information.
Micha Suarez
Kiwanis Family & Conferences Director
Bilingual volunteers are needed to inform immigrant evacuees of their rights and aid them accessing emergency relief services. The purpose of this effort is to ensure the immigrant community of San Diego are able to safely access social services without fear. Duties may include communicating with other relief personnel (FEMA, Volunteer Coordinator, Medical Services) to ensure non-english speaking evacauees who need translation can come to us for help. Also, flyers about what one's rights are when confronted by the police or immigration authorities in one's home, workplace or on the street will be passed out. Please sign up for a four hour shift (at least 3 volunteers per shift). Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Chaldean and other languages are needed.
Scheduling: We would prefer that you commit to at least 4 volunteer hours. However if you are unable we will take whatever time you have to give. Please specify what shift you are making a commitment for. Please include a cell phone number as a contact .
For any questions please contact Denise Garcia at denised1224@...
Only 10 more days before our charter banquet! I can't wait! So far 17 CAYP members have RSVP'ed. That's over half, which is great! Let's go for at least 20 CAYP members in attendance!!
For those who are not sure about attending I can assure you this will be a great night! We have many guests coming! Here is a rundown of some of our guests:
* 2006-07 California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis District Governor George Francis (He will be inducting all new members)
* Members of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District Cabinet and appointees
* 10 different Kiwanis Clubs (and it will grow!!)
* Members of Circle K International
Many of these guests aren't even from our division. This unique club is a very big deal! Very few (if any) Kiwanis Clubs get such a diverse number of guests for their banquet!
Just a reminder that RSVP's are due November 14 (One week from today) for $10. RSVP's can be taken after that date, but the cost will be $12. A reminder that Myspace and Facebook confirmation don't count. You have to e-mail me to secure your spot.
Also, it's not too late to become a charter member. People can join up to the charter banquet. If you have anyone in mind please feel free to invite them to this gathering!
Finally, don't forget about the Toy Drive! Any new and unwrapped toy can be brought to the banquet!
Just one more day! We have a lot of guests coming! We have over 10 different Kiwanis Clubs visiting, Kiwanis District officers and chairs, as well as Circle K clubs!
As of today we have 19 CAYP members reserved. We only need 1 more for 20 (of course more than 20 is cool too J)!!!
As I have mentioned before feel free to invite others (if you can call me that would be great so I have enough food, 323-270-2018).
Here is what the timeline will be:
6:00pm to 7:00pm registration and Social Hour
- Social Hour includes assorted peanuts, cookies and Horchata (Mexican Sweet Rice drink). It would be great to have many of you here during this time!
7:00pm until about 9:30pm (Dinner and banquet)
- Dinner includes salad, steak burritos, cake, sodas, iced tea and water
Remember about our toy drive! Any new unwrapped toy would be appreciated!
1. HomeWalk,
6-10 AM,
700 Exposition Park Dr.,
Los Angeles
Help set up, get a free shirt, and have lots of fun!
2. Please bring any new, unwrapped toy to the charter banquet (6-10 PM) for our toy drive.
3. You can also bring any type of noodle or pasta to the banquet for the division service project, "One Meal and One Family at a Time."

I'd like to get some feedback as to what you guys actually want to as a group. I was thinking of having a social event in the middle of January.
Would the majority of you be available on a Friday or Saturday (mid January)?!
I was thinking one of the following Fridays - January 11, 18, 25 or one of the following Saturdays - 12th, 19th or 26th.
Hmm, maybe we can have a holiday gathering before xmas? If there's enough of us are around town in LA, perhaps we can all get together for dinner and have secret santa(s)? What do you guys think? Friday, Dec. 14th or Saturday Dec. 15th.
Anyway, just let me know. Any suggestions or ideas are more than welcome!
Thanks everyone! =)
Some of the ideas we came up with are:

bowling
dancing

First off, I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that made it out to the banquet! It was truly a wonderful night! Some highlights of the banquet included:
* Raising $273.00 for charity (California Wildfire victims)
* Adding a couple new members to our club
* Speeches from several Kiwanis guests
Pictures have been uploaded to our website! Go check them ou!
Speaking of our website...
Yesterday was the launch of our new look website!! A big THANK YOU goes out to Kim for doing a tremendous job! Our web address is http://www.caypkiwanis.org.
BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!
Our first issue of CAYP Times is now available (Download it from our website!). Great job Brent! It looks great!
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving (Hopefully I'll see some of you at one of the Thanksgiving projects!)
Here are a few projects that the Boys & Girls Club on San Diego is looking for volunteers for:
** HOLIDAY PARTIES ** (There are 2 different dates & locations)
When: December 19th
Where: Poway, San Diego
What: We will be helping with games, passing out gifts, serving food, etc.
When: December 20th from 4:30 - 7pm
Where: Linda Vista, San Diego
What: We will be helping with games, passing out gifts, serving food, etc.
** PREP FOR PARTIES **
When: Numerous times the days before the parties (I am waiting to get more detailed information on exact dates, times, and locations for this)
What: We will be wrapping gifts, stuffing goodie bags, decorating.
** ON-GOING VOLUNTEER HELP **
They are always looking for volunteers to assist the kids. The program hours are typically 2-6pm Monday - Friday. The types of things we could help out with are: tutoring, helping with sports, and arts & crafts. They have locations all over San Diego (Poway, Clairemont, Linda Vista, Logan Heights and Encanto).
Please let me know if you are interested and plan on attending any of the above service projects!!!
I have some dates for some Barnes & Noble Gift Wrapping. If you are interested please let me know so that I can confirm the dates with the manager! We are required to have at least 2 people per shift. So once I get at least 2 people per shift below, I'll call the manager and make sure that date and time is still available. Once I get confirmation from her, I'll email those of you who sign-up to confirm that everything is good to go!
So far I only have dates and shifts for the Carmel Mountain, San Diego location. The Mira Mesa location is completely booked up, but I have contacted a couple other locations and waiting to hear back from them and will email the club when I have that information! :)
Hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving break (and sales?). I know this is last minute but I just found out about this today... At any rate, the National City Kiwanis Club is meeting tomorrow, Wednesday at 12noon at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in National City. The address of the meeting is 140 E 12th Street, National City, CA 91950 and I believe it lasts an hour. If any of the San Diego people are interested in attending please feel free to do so and let us know how it goes.
I just wanted to let you know that I attended the National City Kiwanis Club meeting today. The president actually gave me some of the meeting time to talk briefly about CAYP and how we're planning on serving lunch to the Rose Float decorators in December so that was really cool. In addition, the National City Kiwanis Club informed me of the Division 11 DCM later tonight and also gave me a schedule of all the meetings in Division 11...it really helps when your former high school principal is the Immediate Past LTG :)
Here for your viewing pleasure is a list of the upcoming Division 11 DCMs and the schedule for all the club meetings throughout Division 11. I hope to see some of you at some of the bigger Division 11 events in the near future.
It's me again. Yes, I've been very busy today. I attended the Division 11 Kiwanis DCM earlier this evening and had a chance to meet not just the Kiwanis LTG but also the Key Club LTG. Interestingly enough, his name is also Armando and he's a very gung-ho Key Clubber. I am forwarding you the email he sent me in case any of you are interested in attending his DCM tomorrow. I will try to attend but it's not definite at the moment since things have been crazy at the office in preparation for World AIDS Day events this weekend.
I also met the LTG for Division 31 at tonight's DCM and he has invited me to his DCM on December 8th to talk a little bit about what CAYP is all about. Division 31 is the division that John Crawford belongs to and there seems to be a lot of interest from that area to start a young professional club after John has told them about what CAYP has been up to. If any of you are interested in joining me at the DCM on Saturday, it will be at the Lakeside Community Center (9841 Vine Street, Lakeside, CA) and it starts at 9:30am.
Sorry for all the last minute emails the past couple of days. In the future once I've gotten in contact with more clubs in the Kiwanis Family and have a better idea of their schedules I can be more organized and systematic with my K-Fam events emails. For now please do bear with me as we go through this roller coaster ride called the early stages of CAYP =)

Hey Ms. Suarez!
My DCM will be tomorrow (Thursday) at 6:30 at Children's Hospital (3020 Children's Way). It will be in Room 113, but if you go to the front of the Hospital you will see someone directing you in. We don't usually start the program until about 7:00.
If you have any questions call me at (858) 208-9997! If you can make it that would be great!
Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
I am Zully Chan, a fellow CAYP member and CKI alum. I haven't met
all of you yet since CAYP events seem to conflict with my
schedule... but I wanted to introduce myself and extend Reina's
invitation to volunteer with the Children's Institute (CII). I work
at CII, and our annual holiday event is a big bash we throw for the
children and families we serve. I will be there since the morning
shift and I hope that you will join me in giving back to a community
of children who have gone through so much already in their young
lives. Let's make this holiday season special and memorable for
them!
In Service,
Zully Chan

WE'RE MOVING TOYS. . . PLEASE HELP!
Hello everyone,
AJ from AJ's Playhouse has collected nearly 75,000
toys for the patients of Rady Children's Hospital.
His work is done and now it is time for us to move the
toys to storage.
If you would like to volunteer to move toys (or know
someone who would like to and/or are in need of
volunteer hours) please invite them to meet us
Saturday, December 15th at 6 am at Price Self Storage
(directly across from the Chargers Training Facility).
All of the toys are currently located in the parking
lot of Price Self Storage (3921 Murphy Canyon road;
Exit Aero drive off of Interstate 15. Murphy Canyon
road is approx. one block west from the exit). We are
moving all of these toys into our storage unit at
Price Self Storage. Depending on the number of
volunteers, it will take four to five hours so any
time you can spare will greatly be appreciated. More
the volunteers, the merrier!
We serve over 100,000 children a year and these toys
are collected during the holidays and then used
throughout the year. Toys ranging from Build A Bears
to video games are given to our little patients to
reward them for overcoming their difficult days or to
bring a smile to their face during their time at the
hospital.
Please contact Amanda Austin if you have questions.
Thanks in advance for your help!
