For those of us who have this couple as ancestors it has been a
constant struggle to determine their parentage. Their marriage does
not appear in the registers of Carini, although every single one of
their children is found baptized in the town.
Two new and exiting developments!!
1st of all, it has been established through the baptisms of their
children that Giuseppe was the brother of an Onofrio Giambanco. He
(Giuseppe) is also most likely the son of a Francesco Giambanco and
Agata, based upon the relatively standard Sicilian naming pattern.
That is to say the first born son is named for the Paternal
Grandfather and the first daughter after the Paternal Grandmother.
Imagine how exiting it is when we discover A Francesco Giambanco
married 29 July 1675 Agata Randazzo and had (among others) two sons
named Giuseppe (baptised Aug 3, 1693) and Onofrio (baptised 21 May 1678).
Now on to Ninfa Gambino!
I just tonight discovered a Baptism for Caterina Ninfa Mannino,
baptized 16 January 1728, the daughter of Santo Mannino & his wife
Teresa Abitabile. The godparents? Giuseppe Giambanco and Ninfa , his
wife, the daughter of the deceased Giovanni Battista Gambino!!!
Here is the image: (Upper left corner)
http://www.cariniexchange.com/ChurchRecords/Bap/1720-1730/193.jpg
On February 15, 1689 we discover the Baptism of Nicolo Antonino
Gambino, son of Giovanni Battista Gambino and his wife Anna, recent
immigrants to the town from Torretta!
here is the image: (bottom right)
http://cariniexchange.com/ChurchRecords/Bap/1683-1693/128.jpg
Many of The Carini Gambino came from Torretta, some earlier than others.
Just remember, when you have trouble finding a marriage, try skimming
the baptisms for the period the bride would have been already married,
and look at the godmother's names, it is likely you will find her and
her husband appearing as godparents, and there will possibly be a
mention of her father.
My cousin Michel told me of the value of recording godparents, and he
was certainly correct!
Some of you might descend from Paolo Pistone whose marriage (while in
the index) is missing from the pages of the 1677-1694 Marriage Register.
Just as I discussed in the previous post, we can discover really
incredible things from the Baptismal Registers....
I descend from Paolo through his son Josephat who married Giovanna
Taormina. Here is the Baptismal entry which gives us the maiden name
and father of Nunzia, wife of Paolo Pistone..
12 June 1739 Antonino Josephat, son of Giuseppe and Santa Mannino.
Godparents: Josephat Pistone, son of Paolo and Nunzia Pistone,
daughter of Antonino Scavo, his (Josephat's) mother.
I think I will be reading each one of these baptisms a little more
carefully now!
Angelina, you have done a magnificent job in extracting all of these
files. It is tedious and exacting work. Allow me to thank you from the
bottom of my heart. I just found all of my grandparents and great
uncles and aunts from the Mannino and Anselmo families....Now, if it
were only as easy to find my Collura side from San Fratello......This
is a joy for me. Thank you, again and again.
Christina Collura Embrescia
Angelina has now completed extracting Carini Baptisms for the period
1846-1878. This means that all Carini Baptisms are extracted and up
for the entire period 1826-1910!!
I can't express enough my gratitude for all of her diligent efforts in
compiling this database of 30,500 Baptisms!!
Thank You so much Angelina!

POINTer #3003
almost 5 years ago in December 2003 my friend Nick and I visited
Carini (PA) Sicily the ancestral hometown of my grandmother Antonina
Leone. This (longish) video I just captured today from the original tape.
It begins on the roof of the famous "Castello di Carini" where in 1563
Laura Lanza Lagrua was killed by her father for an adulterous
relationshiop with Ludovico Vernagallo. A poem was written about the
event shortly after and is very famous in Italy, you will even find it
performed in the movie The Godfather III when Al Pacino was visiting
Corleone, his home town.
You can see me in it briefly (I'm the skinny guy with the shaved head)

Is anyone getting alot of emails from my acct? I got an email from a
member asking me to stop emailng her and I have never once emailed her
or even heard of her. I changed my password thinking I may have been
hacked. Is there anything else I should do?

Does anyone know where I would write or call to get an original copy of
a birth record or baptismal record for a persn born in Grazia but
batized in Carini?
Catrina A. Dickens
Thanks to my friend Cathy (who has no connection to Carini, and yet
ordered , scanned and uploaded these images) we now have the Baptism

I have uploaded today 14 pages which were somehow included in one of
the 1820's baptism books. It covers Baptisms for the latter part of
the year 1948. (Yes I said 1948, no typo) There are only 14 pages, but
I felt compelled to include them on the site.
Here is the link (they are also linked on the battesimi page)

Jim
I've just this morning uploaded a new Book of Baptisms for the period
Jan,1841 - Sep,1845. There are no gaps, and they are of exceptional
quality. You can find the images here off the Battesimi page:
http://www.cariniexchange.org/Battisimi.html
Jim
Thanks to The ever-so-amazing Angelina, we now have the completed
Baptism Extractions to January 1911. These records are incredible in
content, if you haven't looked at the originals, please check out the
information recorded via the Extractions. Not only does it list who
the child eventually married, but the date of their marriage and
PARENTS of that spouse.
They can be found linked here off the Extractions page:
http://www.cariniexchange.org/Extractions.html
I have finished scanning and uploading/linking the Complete Carini
Baptisms from 1828-Jan 1841. You can find them off the Battesimi Page
here:
http://www.cariniexchange.org/Battisimi.html
More to come....
I have finished and uploaded another Baptism book covering 1825-1828.
We now have a complete run from 1816-1828. Some of the images are of
very poor quality, but some are very good. I decided to copy and
upload them in any case. The Index is decent, so you should be able to
find the page and then go directly to the page because there are no
gaps in this book.
They are now linked off the baptisms page here:
http://www.cariniexchange.org/Battisimi.html
Jim
I finally finished the newest available baptisms for Carini to January
1, 1911.
We now have a complete run from Dec 25, 1881 to Jan 1, 1911, without
any gaps.
You can find them here, linked from the Battesimi Page:
http://www.cariniexchange.org/Battisimi.html
I am now focusing on much earlier Microfilms, which I have on hand...
Expect images from those earlier books very soon.

I was wondering if any one would know my Great uncles of my grand
father Pietro Badalamenti, who left Carini Sicily as a young boy to
make a life here in the USA. I am my Mothers first son Dominick who's
mother was Rose (Rosina) Carollo and she had a sister Frieda and a
brother who died in the US while serving here in the US Military
(Anthony) My mothers uncle was Frank and there were other children
whos names don't come to mind. Frank had passed soe years ago. The
family had olive farms and the family made its own olive oil which was
sent to us here in the USA.
I have pictures of my great uncle in front of the Badalamenti Masolium
somewhere in Sicily. I would like to tract down my family so if anyone
has any ideas like old addresses I would apprciate your help. Thanks
again. I hope to be there soon to visit where my grandfather was born.

We are revamping and redesigning The Carini Exchange website, have a
look when you get the chance and tell us what you think!

Jim
How do I locate records on this site?
My grandparents are from a town called "Villa Grazie di Carini" which
is located between Carini and the ocean.
My Grandfather's name is Giovanni Gallina and my grandmother's maiden
name was Anna Sgroi also from the same town.
My grandfather was born in 1901.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanking you in advance,
John Gallina
I have finished scanning and uploading/linking the complete Baptisms
for the period 1905-June 1909. These later records are a wealth of
information, if the child eventually married you not only have the
spouse listed and date (which we already had starting around 1880) but
NOW the priests lists the parents of the spouse and if he/she were
from Carini or elsewhere (place listed in the later case).
Some of the marriage notations reach into the 1960s!!!
There are about 200 pages more to complete what is currently available
(to 1910), and I will try to get them up as soon as possible.
Here is the newly redesigned Battesimi page, with the new books
mentioned above linked:
