Victor,

I am fairly new to geocaching myself, I have yet to place a cache myself, but I have thought about doing so since I was introduced to this obsession even more so of late. So I have been interested to read what others have written about the process as well as the procedure. I just finished reading an article which reminded me of your questions and I thought that it might be informative for you.  The article is:  Elements of Style in Geocaching  which is found at geocacher-u.com under the geocaching 201 section. Perhaps some of the information in it will help you determine how to create the cache that you want to create.
In fact geocacher-u has some very good information that I wish some one had pointed me to months ago.

Basically in a nutshell volunteers will need to hide approximately 3-4 temporary
caches, give a quick overview about geocaching to the group, and then take them
to find the temp caches.

Victor,

I have a PN-40 and it is one of the best GPSr for paperless caching. I
recommended purchasing the Delorme "Cache Register" for $10.
00)

It makes it extremely easy to load pocket queries on your PN-40.

Just one reminder, you need to be a premium member of geocaching.com to be able
to generate "Pocket Queries", basically groups of caches that match a specific
set of criteria.

Welcome to caching!

Jeri,

Depending on where you are going (beijing, shanghai), you may be be able to find

On the iPhone, the application OffMaps allows to cache locally the titles of

I believe there is a way to transform these maps and also load them on a GPSr
but I am not familiar with this.

That is probably the best plan.
Find a range of caches, attend some events, and you'll get a better grip
on how the game is played. [We don't have many rules, but the ones we
have are important.]
I know this sport is exciting enough to make us all eager to just dive
into the deep end -- but there are just enough little arcane caveats to
trip the fresh enthusiasm up.
You'll learn, for example, what caches seem to disappear too easily,
where we should and should not place caches, what materials do and do not
hold up.....

The situation you're describing SEEMS more akin to the waymarking
(www.waymarking.com) vibe -- but even there, sample a bit.

Cache on!

OK. You've described what an event cache is. I've read that before, but I'm still struggling. Perhaps if you change gears and tackle my situation from a different angle. Can you answer these questions?

Can what I've proposed be set up as a geocache? If so, what type should it be?

From geocaching.com: "Event caches are gatherings that are open to all geocachers and which are organized by geocachers. While a music concert, a garage sale, an organized sporting event, a ham radio field day or a town’s fireworks display might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the organizers and the primary attendees are not geocachers."

So like Russ, the Waterweasel said, an Event cache is basically a party. Everyone observing the equinox does not meet the qualifications for an event cache. Make your description more focused on geocaching and not the equinox. You can still celebrate the equinox and have that information in there - but geocaching has to be the main focus.

Check this recent event out.  http://tinyurl.com/ydj2lt5   The first and second sentence qualifies it to be about caching.   This event: http://tinyurl.com/y9ftjju was Trey's last Solstice event. Brief description - again focusing on geocaching at the end.

I hope this helps.

I've decided to give up on it for now. Maybe I'll retry after I've gotten my feet wet a little bit.

I got my coin today. One minor problem - nothing says where to go to get
the activation code. Anyone know?

Tip -- walk around the graves not over them.
That's a kindness and, remember, we're 'trespassing' -- with permission,
but still.
