I've uploaded a photo of my dovecote under my inn eaves.

It's made of foam tray, wire brushed & scored for wood grain. 3 1/2 inch wide by
1 1/4 inch tall, painted in browns with black inside the three round top holes
and with rounded perches. Excelsior pieces and a tiny bit of cotton for a
lived-in look.

The Dollar Store wedding favor birds have wings cut off and one is cut in half
to fit inside the hole.

Hi Peter,

Take your time, the most fun is working on our projects. The balcony door,
adding to the top of your cave, trees and wall with the set of three windows are
really coming right along. Great work in progress.

Hi Peter, I wanted to ask about what type of foam cutter(s)you use. I need to
purchase some and was curious as to what you might recommend. I live in Hawaii
and no local construction material place (e.g. Home Depot) has them, nor does
the local Ben Franklin - one one and only craft store. I'd have to order them
and want to make sure I get a good and reliable item. Many thanks for your
help.

Hi Marc,

Have you looked at Peter's photos in the
large format size? If you go into his album the
regular size is something like 480 x 360 but if you
click on the link (upper left of photo) that reads
"original," the photo will have a resolution of
2592 x 1944 and show a lot more detail.

Hi Lynne,

That's Roe's display from several years ago. It's
her manger scene from Christmas 2008. It's one of the
best examples of the use of various levels in a
manger scene. She put together a great background, too.
I like to put member's photos on the front page so
people can appreciate their artistry.

I've uploaded photo of a butterfly net attached to children figure 54004
Fontanini 5 inch Adah & Jason and a photo of butterflies on flowers of a trellis
and flower edgeing.

The net is made from a Dollar Store frying pan splatter screen. I cut a
triangle, glued the edges together and around a plastic ring, then painted. The
handle is a toothpick.

The butterflies are colored paper, three eights to half an inch wide, scored
down the center and folded. Using an ultra fine point marker, it bleeds through
the paper, so I was marking both sides identically at once. Cut out with small
sharp pointed scissors and glued to the flowers.

This Christmas I will feature the new amazing "fabric" (Magic Scarf) I posted
and provided photos earlier here, look for the "dollar store finds" album.

Also this year I have a bonsai tree I made from a boxwood nursery plant I got
for $3.99 I am adding pictures of this tree today and how I may feature it. It
has proven to be quite hardy but I don't know how it would like to be taken away
from the kitchen windowsill and into a nativity scene for one whole month...

Thanks Bill for featuring my 2008 nativity and thanks for the nice comments it
is great that we can inspire each other here.

I did a video that shows it in more detail:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmzzHFQoGCs

It is not very good in that I have a lot to learn about making videos
and I was featuring a bonfire that I did with one of those flame-less dollar
store candles and some sheep I painted from the wood-tone to white.

More interestingly perhaps for the group is the slide show video I did that
shows how the scene came together:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA9FGQejItQ

I always do try to have very rounded corners in my landscape so as to simulate
actual terrain and I find the flexibility, functionality and practicality of
using fabric to be unsurpassed. I toy with the idea of painting it so as to add
variation but have not done it yet.

Hi Roe,

The fabric really does looks like grass and a bonsai is a great idea. I think
your bonsai tree will be OK for a month but you could get a grow light from a
hardware store. I would check a bonsai book first.
