Hi Harriet!
Thanks for the link but I didn't find Couture in the surname section.
Can you give us direct links to where you found the 3 families? Thanks!
Rosie

Hi Linda,
I'm finding pretty much the same as David. If you like the images to check
for yourself, let me know. I would need an email to send them to.

Hi,
I found a Camille Couture died in Blind River, Ontario on 24 Jun 1927, according
the record he was born on 14 Mar 1851 Rimouski, Quebec to Etienne Couture and M.
Riousse.
I found his baptism on 14 Mar 1852 Trois-Pistoles, Rimouski, PQ to Etienne
Couture and Marie Scholastique Rioux.
I found Marie Anne Philomene Couture on 11 Sep 1842 Trois-Pistoles, Rimouski, PQ
to Etienne Couture and Scholastique Rioux.
I hope this helps.

I've done both my Y-DNA and mtDNA because i'm interested in this. It depends
what you want out of it.
I haven't had much luck yet with my dad's side because no one over in Europe
has tested yet and my surname is very rare here.
On my mother's side, i've had more luck and one of my matches was also
french-canadian so i helped him research and sure enough, we both descend from
the same woman 400 years ago.
I know the Savards [a family i descend from] has tested 3 males from 3
different branches to prove their branches are connected plus they tested one
from a someone that was adopted into a Savard family and proved that too.
We are lucky in that we have the records to back up the DNA research, more so
than a lot of nationalities.

Yes !
My Father was part of the French DNA project . Interesting and it did show us
there was no american Indian DNA in our bloodline as was suggested by a few in
the couture lineage.
Has anyone in the group has any experience with DNA testing for genealogical
purposes? Since we descendants of French-Canadians have access to relatively
good records for the last 300 years or so, is there any benefit to be gained?

Hello Rosie and everyone :)
I have a book called "The souls of St. Antoine Church" in paperback that you can
purchse through the monroe county French canadien Heritage Society.
Also as part of the research for our Couture Lineage I do have copies of all the
land purchased by Jean Baptiste and Medard Couture as well as land treaty
letters with signatures. I'll be glad to send copies to anyone who's ancestor is
Jean Baptise or Medard Couture :)
Kindly

Hi Bob and CFT members!
Thank you Bob for this great information!!! It really is ashame that
the old Cemetery was left unattended until 1999 and that graves were
disturbed and markers disappeared! With your permission, I would like
to create a text document re the St Antoine Cemetery in Monroe and place
it in our "files" section. Of course, your name would be included as
the writer/author of the info.
You did nicely in honoring our Couture ancestors on the U.S. Army
Historical Foundation web page! I was going to add my dad to the
registry, but he served in the Navy during WWII.
I'm glad you wrote four paragraphs! [:)]

St Antoine Cemetery in Monroe is really just the stone monument in the
pictures and a well-kept little park, about an acre or so I suppose, in
the midst of a new housing development. It is out N Custer Rd not quite
two miles west from St Mary's Church. Its a very nice drive out there,
right on the river. Apparently when St Antoine's parish moved into the
city, early 1820s I believe, and eventually became St Mary's, they
thought they had located all the graves and moved them to one of the
cemeteries on Monroe Street. The old cemetery was gradually forgotten
until a developer bought the land and started uncovering human bones in
1999. The city tried to let the developer continue, probably because
there was potential tax money involved in more new houses, but the
museum and some citizens found out and Monroe County finally came
forward, bought the three lots involved and expanded the tiny little
park that already marked the site of the old church. About 80 graves
were found using infrared imaging and a cadaver dog, and bones that had
been disturbed were reburied.
>
Records suggest there were about 500 burials in the cemetery before it
was abandoned, no telling how many were moved and how many remain. Any
headstones are long gone. The new monument includes only family names,
not individuals. COUTURE is in picture 4, fourth line down. It has
several others I'm interested in from that period including Beauregard,
Couzineau, Drouyard and Valliquette. I think Coutures there might well
include Captain Jean Baptiste Couture, my 5th great uncle, who was
killed in action in the Battle of Frenchtown, January 1813. At least I
haven't found him in the other cemeteries. His brother Claude (aka
Glode), who was also a member of the Michigan Militia, moved to Ottawa
County Ohio between 1835-1840 and became my gggg grandfather.

Hi Denis and welcome to our CFT group!
As posted on the home page: "This is an English language site; therefore
members are required to use English when communicating here. Thank You!"
This was stated so that potential members would not be intimidated to
join because they didn't know French (like myself). We ask that
posted messages be written in English.
However, if you have documents in French that you wish to share, please
feel free to do so. You can post these documents in the"Files" section
(obituaries are there too).
There are good language translators on the Internet (i.e. Google and
Microsoft) that are available free (they weren't free many years ago).
I appreciate your concern regarding this issue. I invite other members
to voice their opinion as well. Thank you

HI Dennis,
My great grandmother was Georgianna Couture who her father was Pierre and mother
was Marie Lebrecque, died at 40 in childbirth and my grandfather was only one
years old. He was raised by a couple in Cabal Quebec. I have no idea how they
may be or may not be related.
HIs father was Nazaire Mercier who went to Wisconsin after his wife's death and
later married a Mary Gauthier.
I also go back to Guillaume Couture.
Just need to trace the line backwards.
I would be disappointed if we only got french because I don't know how to read
or speak it. Mainly because my grandparents insisted on English in their house
in Vermont.

Just joined the group. My older brother Ray is the genealogist in our family. I
suggested he join as he very knowledgeable about the Couture's (at least our
branch). He has an objection to the "english only" on this group. I can
understand that part of it, but most of the documents that originate from
Guillaume are in French. Does this mean we are not allowed to upload document
files in French on this group?
I live in Red Deer Alberta, (Canada"s Texas), and am the 3rd generation of
western French Canadians in the west. My father (Adolph) was born near St.
Albert (near Edmonton, Alberta) and was raised as an orphan. There were, I
believe 10 or 12 in that family. The 2 youngest were twins and were adopted by a
couple in Wisconsin. (SaultSte Marie). Could make a movie out of that story.
Great group and keep up the good work.

Hi Joyce,
Pierre Couture married to Marguerite Patry in 1817.
Pierre's 2cd marriage , the first was to a Therese Prisque. I haven't found that
one , for sure, but i believe there's a "dit" name involved and it's really
Therese Boudre, married to Pierre in 1815 and died in 1816. You would need to
research it more to be sure. I have the Drouin records if you want but i would
need an email to send them to.
