Well, considering that the three previous messages to mine had been about
selling stuff, I thought the "Craigslisting" in my heading was appropriate.
(But I have noticed that since I posted my message, those three messages no
longer exist, so I guess the powers-that-be could see my point. Thanks.)

I thought the New Gods were initially cancelled because of a dispute between
Jack Kirby and DC, which was later resolved. (And the way Kirby wanted things
to end was printed in a deluxe reprint version in the 1980's, plus the "Hunger
Dogs" graphic novel.)

Below are two sites I found that have pics of many, many GLC members. I thought
these sites were cool enough to share, if some members don't know about them.

Some of these Lanterns are not well known, but I think they are very visually
interesting, really cool looking. Among those I thought were interesting were
Garmin Vid, M'Dahna, Palaqua, Perdoo, Volk, and Voz.

I would be interested to know what Lanterns on these sites other group members

Diamond Comic Distributors released its Top 300 Comics, Trade Paperbacks,
and Market Share data.

They show something that hasn't happened in comics in a very long time —
possibly 40 years (according to _http://www.comichron.com/_
(http://www.comichron.com/) ): DC had the six-best selling comic books of
the month, as
ordered by retailers. Blackest Night again led the market, its fourth issue
taking
the top spot.

Marvel has taken the top six slots many times in the decade of the 2000s;
in January 2005, it took the top thirteen slots. But DC's performance
immediately stands out. The company has not taken the Top 6 in the entire
Diamond
Exclusive Era — and going further back shows few recent opportunities for
it
to have done so. The closest DC came was April 1993, when the return of
Superman began in the line; the top five titles were Adventures of
Superman,
Action, Superman, another issue of Adventures, and Superman: Man of Steel.
But
in both the Diamond and Capital lists, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #1 from
Valiant took the sixth spot.

In 1968, when DC had seven of the top eight comic books — and as Archie
wasn't out every month, there may have been months when DC had the top six
titles on the racks. Of course this was back when DC still controlled
national
comic distribution and limited the amount of titles that Marvel was allowed
to distribute...

Seriously, can you use short subject headers, so you're message would look
something like this:

Subject: Blackest Night
Body:

I'm so tired of darkseid AND THE FLASH AND BATMAN AND..ALL THESE SUPERFICIAL
SICKOS.. THAT looK IN THE MIRROR AND TWITCH..BECAUSE I AM ONE OF THEM!

(although preferably with less capitals)

Makes it difficult to read otherwise.

You're a superficial sicko? Or are you half dead?
I'm confused. (What else is new?)

((And again, I had to do a "Reply" to find out your full subject line . . .

"In the blackest night ZATANNA'S dad should play a big role! Isn't he",
but it didn't have what he is or isn't.))

Subject: MEN OF TOMORROW

When I was still a radio talk show producer I was sent a copy MEN OF TOMORROW by
Gerard Jones in an effort to get him booked on the show. Still tucked inside the
book is the six-page "synopsis" that is provided so that the interviewer can
sound like they've read the book even though they haven't.

One of the facts that I found amazing was "Sales of comic books reached record
high levels in the United States, hovering near $350 million; they're the
fastest-growing section of bookstores." The year referred to would be 2003.

Here's what it says about Mort Weisenger
"Mort Weisinger, who would steal from others, lie about his talents, and
eventually become the abusive, but brilliant mind and editor of Superman.  His
over-identification with the man of steal led to a nervous breakdown."

It also claims
"Will eisner, who with Jerry Iger would set up a shop of comic illustrators and
writers, paying them pennies while he profited from syndicating their work.
But he tired of running a factory and went on to create THE SPIRIT, the first
comic aimed at adults as well as kids."

There is also this insightful passage from the book explaining why it was
the Jews that created comics
"Secret identity stories always reverberated with the children of Jewish
immigrants because they were so much about the wearing of the masks that enabled
one to be an American, a Modern, a secular consumer, but still part of an
ancient secret society, a link in an old chain, when safely among those who knew
one's secret."

I have begun reading this book and it is very well-written and clearly explains
many things that you might have heard about but don't know the
details of, such as DC Comic's connections to organized crime. If you enjoy
reading about comic book history this might very well be the best book on the
subject.

heroscardsan...

Many of you who don't live near a comic book shop or who don't have time to stop
by one every week, have emailed me asking if we offer a comic book subscription
service.

The answer to your question is yes we do!

Here's how it works:

Tell us what books you wish to receive.(this could be just a single
issue or a running series)

If you are collecting a mainstream title from any of the major
publishes(Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, etc.) you can add or remove
a title at any time.

If you are ordering small press titles (Greener Pastures, Milk &
Cheese,Castle Waiting, etc.) you will be expected to purchase any
outstanding issues on order for you at the time you cancel the title.

We will email you a preview of the upcoming comic book releases. You
email us back by the following Monday what you want from that weeks
releases. We will invoice you and you simply pay via Paypal NO LATER
then Tuesday. When the new comics arrive on Wednesday, we fill your
order, and ship to you on Thursday via USPS Priority Mail.

You can either pay for you order by PayPal or Money Order
If paying by money order you will have to send us a deposit of $50.00
on your books, as we ship your books you will have to replenish your
deposit.

Cost for shipping:

We can ship your books as often as you like; weekly, bi-weekly or
monthly.

A base charge of $4.80 plus a service charge 50¢ for every comic book will be
applied to your order. (for example if you order 10 comics books the shipping
charge would be $4.80 + $5.00 (10 x 50¢) = $9.80). This applies only to orders
to the USA. If you want your comics to come to you bagged and boarded, it's only
25¢ per book.

Residents of Canada please email me for shipping rates.

We do offer our subscription service to overseas customers but due to the high
cost of shipping we will try to ship you out when you have either 1 kilogram
(2.2 lbs.) of books ready to ship (about 18 average size comics) for $25.00 US
(or) 2 kilograms of books for $40.00 US.

It's that easy! Please let me know if you would like to sign up and I
will send you information about our Comic Subscriber Bonus Program
that earns you free stuff!

Thanks and happy reading!

The last two Super Friends? Are you talking the cartoons from ages ago, or
something more recent? He seemed to have a regular book until sometime before I
stopped actively following back in the mid-1990's, but beyong then, I really
don't know how much he was showing up.

There was an article on newsarama.com about it. An interview with Dan
Didio.

But that does not look good for Hawkman and Hawkgirl. And Hawkman is
another of my favorite characters.

Hairy chest, leather harness. What's not to like?

Jason,
Re: "it was recently announced that DC would stop killing off characters"
Well, they just got around to that in the nick of time. Isn't 3/5 of the DCU
dead? The potential cast for Blackest Night must be overwhelming.

Gerry Conway the creator of Firestorm knows how to write him because after all
he is the creator of the Nuclear Man. So I say it's another case of a super hero
not in the right writers hands.

He was always one of my favorites too.

He had a recent story in Brave and the Bold working with Green Lantern.

And he is supposed to have a one shot in January showing how the
Blackest Night affects magical beings.

Other than that, I had not seen much of him since Green Arrow first came
back to life.

Has anyone heard anything about bringing back the Phantom Stranger? I liked it
when he appeared mysteriously (as is his way) with the JLA.

The Killing has been done so much because they found out it
made tons of money with Superman Doomsday so let's repeat it. However it was
recently announced that DC would stop killing off characters just for the sake
of sales.

As to how popular Firestorm was before being killed off. He was already in the
last two Super Friends incarnations but he was going down as writers changed.
