DCguides is an informal channel of communication among guides in the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, DC. Participants seek to enhance their professional skills and knowledge, and to share information of general interest. Topics which may be covered are broader than in the GuildGuides group.

Postings here may provide background material on DC history, architecture, organizations, and may involve back-and-forth discussions. Since tourists and tour guides have wide-ranging interests, pertinent subjects will change over time. Guild members are to use their judgment as to the appropriateness of a particular posting on Guildguides or DCguides, but in no case should there be duplicate postings.

The courtesy and diplomatic manners that tour guides are known for professionally are traits expected of individuals posting to this group. There will be no criticism, seemingly constructive or otherwise, of a fellow guide, nor should there be personal criticism of people not in the group. Rudeness will not be tolerated, and postings may be moderated. (Criticism and complaints are to be taken to the Administration and Professional Conduct chair on the board.)

The volume of e-mail in this discussion group may be more than what some people may want to have. Although a majority of Guild guides are in DCguides, membership is entirely optional
