Catch the Disney Live action film festival on Turner Classic Movie
channel on Sundays in December. I'm not listing this in the normal
listings because they are mostly not Park Related. There is an
accompanying documentary on the live action films shown occasionally
starting on Dec 14.
Information can be found on the very Theme Park Like page at
http://www.tcm.com/2008/familyclassics/index.jsp

Nothing Special on this week about the Disney Parks, though.

On Friday December 19, 2008 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on DHD -
Discovery High Def is

America's Thrillmakers: Walt Disney World
This fascinating study of the rides at Florida's Walt Disney World
focuses not on the mechanics involved, but rather on the thought and
imagination behind the attractions and participants' reactions to
them. Designers talk about how they dream up the state-of-the-art
rides, and testers take a spin---as do cameras, for a vicarious
thrill. Also examined is the setup preceding each one that's meant to
subliminally prep patrons as they wait in line. Rides include the
Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Test Track, Splash Mountain,
Dinosaur and Mission: Space.

On Sunday December 21, 2008 from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the History Channel is

Modern Marvels - Walt Disney World
Journey underground and backstage at the technological marvel that
is Walt Disney World. Enter a make-believe world spanning some 27,000
acres, brought to life by cutting-edge technology. What was once
Florida swampland now boasts the world's largest theme park. The ride
technology ranges from space-age centrifuges to enhanced motion
vehicles powered by 3,000 PSI of hydraulic pressure. And hundreds of
audio animatronics brought to life through the power of pneumatics,
hydraulics, and electrical systems. Walt Disney World is made up of
four separate theme parks, each with its own innovations: the 107-acre
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
The four parks are all part of a megaplex of a resort. Twice the size
of Manhattan, it was the final vision and crowning achievement of a
man who spent more than 40 years pushing the limits of technology to
create entertainment magic: Walt Disney.

using a pressure washer so powerful it could cut through concrete with
ease and painting the hull of the ship, to jack-hammering and

thrusters and stabilizers that are as tall as a house, Blashaw unveils
the amount of work that goes into keeping the popular vacation

Segments are shown from all the parks and going back 50 years.
Expedition Everest's Yeti is shown, but commentary says it opened in
2005 instead of the correct year of 2006. Lucky the Dinosaur is also
shown. Worth recording for the completist. Interesting, but not
essential viewing.)

1976 - The 50,000,000th guest visited the Magic Kingdom
-------------------------

Surviving the spin: Which rides whirl at Disney World?
The theme parks at Disney World are known for their relatively tame rides.
Granted, Rockin' Rollercoaster at Disney Hollywood Studio flips riders upside
down, but it's slow as a baby carriage compared to Universal's Hulk and
SeaWorld's Kraken. Tower of Terror does some nice drops that lift your butt off
the sea, but for those who fear heights, Dr. Doom's Fearfall is much more
instense. Most people who fear extreme rides can do the majority of rides at
Disney.

Downtown Disney hotels offer deals
If you are thinking about a trip to Walt Disney World this year, you might want
to book your accommodations at one of the seven Downtown Disney Resort Area
Hotels in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Downtown hotels are offering a Passport to
Savings coupon booklet that includes discounts and specials for area dining,
shopping and entertainment, as well as area maps and the schedules for the
hotels' bus service.

ranks of major entertainment venues that is now promoting jazz to younger
audiences when it launched the first annual Disney Jazz Celebration Festival.

Cruising: Disneyland on water, minus the rides
Think of all the things Disney does well at its theme parks.
Its iconic cartoon characters star in attractions, restaurants and souvenir
shops. Massive numbers of people are fed and moved about every day. Customers
pay one price for admission and most essentials are covered. The parks are
family oriented, with a few perks for adults. And, Mickey Mouse can be seen
everywhere.

Jonas Bros. movie may foretell an end to innocence
When red-hot boy band the Jonas Brothers debut their 3-D movie on Friday in many
sold-out U.S. theaters, it will mark a new beginning for them and, perhaps, the
end of their youthful innocence.

Walt Disney Family Museum at San Francisco's Presidio to open in 2009

Sharing stinky diapers at Disney World? No thanks!
The theme parks are great about providing diaper changing facilities in their
restrooms. Most parents take advantage of this, but some seem to feel the need
to whip off that poopy diaper and expose their baby's butt no matter where they
might be at the moment. A bus seat, bench, on the ground in a line, or even on a
restaurant table...all of these are used as impromptu changing surfaces at the
theme parks. Sure, they might seem to convenient to the harried parent, but it's
downright repulsive to fellow guests. That baby in the photo at upper right
might look cute and innocent, but you don't want to be next to her when she's
done digesting her dinner!
