Seeing Air Man of Sky Man whatever he called himself reminded me of
a news article from 82 or 83 I think it was.

Seems a place had been found in which a number of people, many of
them well to do types like Oliver Queen and Lee Travis as I
recall, had been found in some sort of suspended animation. A Country
singer Sanders or Sanderson something like that had been frozen in
mid song.
Good way to handle a country musician I think.

What brought that to mind, was that it occured right about the same
time the JSA announced they had found the long missing Seven Soldiers
of Victory.

Some JSAers rescued the frozen folk and others rescued thier long
absent comrades in arms.

Sky Guy out there looks alot like that Star Spangled Banner Boy who
was a member of that team of supers.

Me I have worked with a few of them from time to time but really to
me they well its just not normal to parade around dressed like the
flag or a bat or something.

Then again one of my poker playing circle is a talking gorilla and
he's more of a man then many a human male I have known.
That and his partner was the most beatiful woman to ever walk the
earth.

I looked over at her checking her gorgeous long thick platinum blonde
hair in a mirror and for the umpteenth time today I pictured myself
burried face first into that mountain of fluffiness.

Am I in love with Angel O'Day?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Does Angel regard me as anything more then a friend and colleague?
To the best of my knowledge no.
Have I ever had the nerve to ask Sam how she feels about me?
I plan to right after the J.S.A. invites me to become a member.

"Coming up to Mexico boys and lady" Steve said from the front of the
plane.
"Be sure and have your passports ready at the airport and oh yes
don't drink the water."

Well just about time I figured to find out why two infamous villians
had hired the services of private eyes Angel O'Day, Sam Simian and a
guy named Johnny Double.

I like the first-person narrative. It adds quite a bit to the story. Good
chapter, as well.

Thanks mi amiego.

Sorry to have been out of touch for so long, The Kingdom of the Wolf has moved
to new territory, a five room [with bathroom] apartment [blessed be!] and we
were without the internet for a while!

I plan to get back to this story tomorrow all goes well.

CHAPTER THREE

We arrived in Mexico without a problem, cleared immigration with no
hassle, largely because we like three other people were guests
of "Senor Faust".

The three other people we met at the ranchero that the retired
supervillian had turned into his private retreat.

Its not often I get to meet the likes of Sky Man, The Flash and
newcomer [I think] Cross Bow.

Although admittedly the red and black clad masked archer did strike
me as someone I had met before,or seen on tv.
The way his face was fully masked though I couldn't be sure.

Also at this nice hacienda were The Vixen a JSA-Detroit member and
Animal Man superhero of the Western states.

Faust can sure draw a crowd.

But most stunning of all was Vandal Savage.

Now like you I have seen him on the tube, seen his pictures in many a
newspaper and magazine.
He's got quite a reputation as a man who wants to rule the world.
God alone knows why anyone would want that massive headache inducing
job.
Just think of the logistics involved for say feeding your hungrier
minions.
All I can say is I wouldn't want the job.
However up close and personal he looked less like the fierce badguy
who has been fighting the JSA off and on since the 40's and more like
a man who had seen one to many nightmares.

He looked haggard, tired, worn out and ready for a long vacation.
Sort of how I feel after a tough case, but for him it looked tenfold.

The various costumed wonders seemed even more unsure of themselves
here then did,Angel,Sam and myself.
Steve, even though he was surprised to be handed an invite to come to
this shindig when we arrived acted as if dropping in on supervillians
was a part of his routine.

So, introductions were made, lemonade was served along with some nice
looking Mexican foods and we got down to why we were all here....

"For those of you who don't know me I am Felix Faust and my um my
friend here is Vandal Savage, each of us invited some of you here, and
both for the same reason."

The old guy managed to look nervous worried and peeved at the same
time, myself I tried not to laugh at his rediculous goatee wagging as
he talked.

Vandal then stood up as Faust sat down.
"I know this will come as a surprise to you all" he opened with and
the heros exchanged looks of caution and anticipation.

"I won't deny the fact that in the past,oh many times in the past I
have sought to rule, sometimes well that is not important what is
important is why I came to Faust in the first place and why we have
asked you all to come."

He took a sip of his lemonade and continued.
"I have become aware of a menace so great, so fearsome so intensely
evil it made me repent of all of my sins."

Which would explain the small book he held close. Vandal Savage
allegedly the oldest man in the world had gotten religion.

"Right here in Baja underneath us is a series of tunnels, tunnels that
connect to other subteranian byways."
He coughed then and was as surprised as we were to see blood.
"So evil are the dwellers of this system no villian I know of would
ally with them, thier goal is nothingless then the total destruction
of this planet and every life form on it."

He started hacking bad, blood was flowing rapidly from his mouth,Faust
eased him to the floor, and tried something using magic no doubt but
it didn't work.

Quicker then you can say Aunt Sadie, the Flash took Savage into his
arms and dissapeared.
He was back moments later.
"I took him to the medical center in San Carlito" he said.
"Now Faust what the holy blazes is going on here!"

Faust looking even older then when we walked in,sighed heavily and
told us in a very low voice.
"We could all be doomed!"

CHAPTER FOUR

Like everyone assembled once the Flash had returned we all eyeballed
our host.

He looked seriously perturbed as he fumbled with wooden matches to
light his pipe.

"By the Gods themselves!" he muttered "If they can do that to Savage
whgat hope have we got?"

Sam suddenly was across the room his hand swiftly wrapped around
Fausts throat.
"You had better tell us now what the he-- is going on here!" he
growed in a voice that sent chills racing down my back.

Animal Man reached to the gorilla and calmly said "Easy big fella"

Sam let go and Animal Man himself turned to Faust and coldly spoke.
"What he said."

Faust nodded "Savage discovered an underground race so evil,so vile
they make the demons I have worked with in my less then illustrious
past seem like..like...like boyscouts in comparison"

Steve then gasped "Demons? You have worked with demons?"

Faust nodded "Yes and believe me my friend you would not like doing
business with them, but even so..."

He sighed deeply "Three days ago Savage came to me with
information,in turn he wanted help, help such as our colorfully
outfitted friends here can offer."

He relit his pipe with shaking hands "As for you civillians we had in
mind sending you four on a special mission for us, something that you
could acquire fairly easy, well he hoped."

Cross Bow then spoke up through his mask "So thats why you called the
Titans to deal with these deros?"

I gave him a look and he shrugged "Well what would you call them?
Morlocks maybe?"

"Kid" I responded "You seem to young to remember the Shaver
mysteries?"

"I can read and my college has had a real good library. Okay Faust
continue."

"Deros and Morlocks are fiction, these things are very real."

We all of us including Faust turned to the door.
Standing there in a light tropical suit was a tall handsome blond man
who had more then just a good tan going for him,he had an air of self
confidence, which at that moment was very reassuring.

"Allow me to introduce myself for those of you who don't know me I'm
Rip Hunter. Hello Flash good to see you again."

"Rip Hunter! Yes my predicessor spoke of you, I'm the Third Flash, use
to be Kid Flash."

Hunter nodded "Yes of course, I remember now sometimes being a
chrononaut can mess with your memories."

"How did you get in and what are you doing here?" Faust demanded.

"Easy scarecrow I walked in the front door and secondly I am the only
one who can help these guys defeat the D'Mkru"

Angel gasped "Who are they?" she asked in the warmly sensuous voice
of hers.

"Devious alians who recently arrived on earth and believe me thier
dedicated to destroying humanity and taking over, thier also the
masters of them little dinosaurs Animal Man and Vixen recently met."

"D'Mkru sounds African" Sky man said and Sam nodded.

"Well yes I admit it does but thier not from Africa thier from much
farther away."

"And you think you can help?" Faust asked.

"Yes and don't you want to know how?"

We did indeed want to know how so Hunter continued "I am from well
several days in your future one where you failed, and I'm here to
make sure that doesn't happen."

"Wait a minute, wait a minute" The Flash exclaimed "You think you can
change your past? Its my understanding that the past once it happens
can't be changed."
Hunter snorted "Right and it don't rain in Minneapolis in the summer
time. Listen Kid I know what I am talking about and I can prove it."

He pulled several newspaper clippings from his pocket, they told of
funerals for the costumes.
"By sending the civillians down to Peru and the costumes underground
the plan will fail. I think because you divided the team up when it
was most critical these people work togeather."

Now I was completely confused, not only did these paper clippings saw
that these masks here would be killed in action but the Yankees would
beat the A's !

"I suggest that everyone here including you Faust come with me,we'll
all go to Peru which incidently is not the outpost you thought it
was,but thier base."

He held up a video cassette "And this tape you made proves my point."

Faust grumbled "I don't even own a device for playing that thing!"

The Flash started plugging one in "Got it from a friend of mine" He
said.

The tape dated four days from now had a very bloody Faust saying he
was wrong, the alians base wasn't where he thought it was,and because
of that he had caused the death of several people.

We were all suspecious but willing to give this newcomer a
shot, especially because we didn't know what else to do.

"Steve Savage, you ready to fly to Peru?" Hunter asked my buddy.

He looked ashen but agreed.

"I'll fly myself" Sky Man said and the Flash nodded "I'll follow on
my own, Crossbow,Animal Man, Vixen keep an eye of Faust and I don't
have to tell you why"

Faust shook his head "Don't worry Flash I retired I told you that and
there is not one magical item here not even my old grimmorie rest
assured."

"I checked" Flasheroo said "I know your telling the truth but be
warned Faust the slightest hint of betrayal from you,or you." He
glared at Hunter "And its all over for you."

"Well" I said "I'm glad my passport is up to date."
Angel laughed then and winked at me.

I felt good just then.

I wouldn't be feeling so good for too much longer.

CHAPTER FIVE

Using a plane owned by Faust and piloted by Steve we didn't take
long in flying to Peru.

We landed at a landing base, Faust knew of, seems as a one time
super villian with the goal of eliminating the JSA he was wont to do
business with various unsavory types.

Including Business men who dealt in cocaine.

Which accounted for the burning buildings and fields we had passed
near this landing strip.

"Seems the Federales made a big score." Hunter grunted in admiration.
"Yes so it would seem, however that is not our affair."

Faust stated coldly "We have to be some fifty klicks from here
southward,and its fairly rough country."

He sighed deeply and sipped some water.
"Savage told me he had a connection here that could supply weapons
and gear for our crew, I trust said source is still availible,as
according to my uh associate said weapons supplier is not himself in
the coke trade."

So we walked, with the masks taking turn watching our backsides and
making sure no one was in front of us waiting under trees, brush and
rocks armed to the teeth and unable to distinguish respectable P.I.'s
from thier own enemies which may or may not include the boys[and gal]
in the spandex.

When we reached the small village Faust indicated we met up with a
German mad who called himself Sigfried [Roy was nowhere around
though] and after some arguements with Faust soon led us to a small
house in which we discovered enough firepower to arm the Mormon
Tabernacle Choir.

As an old Army man I was impressed, ever see that movie TERMINATOR
with Stallone? His character in that movie woulda loved this layout.

Angel hefted a fairly brightly polished sig 9 and took some ammo.
I was impressed, I never figured her for a gunbuff, but Sam said it
wasn't him that subscribed to GUNS AND AMMO.
Sam, Steve and myself armed ourselves with pistols and AK's grabbed a
lot of ammo then some other basics like grenades,c-14 plastic
explosives and mri's.
Thats meals ready to eat for you non ex military readers.

The heros refused the weapons, well except for Cross Bow who did pick
up some of the rockets for the launcher he also helped himself to.

Hunter selected a tasty looking Remington and a pair of navel
colts, looking like a cowboy who decided to join the party.

Faust took a pistol and two boxes of ammo, admitting he had never
fired a piece and didn't want to over extend himself.

My my a big bad super villian [retired] who had never visited a
shooting range, what one can learn when thier sure thier about to die
fighting the sort of baddies guys like the Flash are use to but guys
like me aren't.

But then again what do I know- one of my poker buds is a gorilla.

Soon we were in a pair of motorized rafts making our way down a river
that reminded me of the one in JUNGLE OF DEATH [okay so my tour of
duty never went beyond Hawaii okay? happy now?]I was constantly on
alert for anything from a giant anaconda to the Creature from the
Black Lagoon.

I daresay as we made camp, no one really wanted to sleep, but Cross
Bow and Sam drew the straws for first watch.

We ate and planned our next days venture, one that should bring us to
what Hunter assured us was the real base of these M'Krue.

Truthfully I was more concerned with terrestrial terrors, like
fireants at that point.

It was midnight, I had the watch along with Sky Man when they struck.

Intro
I'm almost done with this fic and I'll definetley do my best to post
more fic parts over the summer. So enjoy this part, my friends.

Beltane became more and more concerned with each passing second as
she stared at the prone form of the Spectre. Surely it didn't took
that long to relieve a personal memory, did it? She gathered all of
her courage and lightly tapped on his shoulder.

"Excuse me," She said. "Are you going to be all right?"

Before Beltane could even respond, the Spectre's eyes flared with a
white-hot burning rage and he grabbed the female mage's wrist.

<Foul Harlot!> He said, his voice barley keeping his anger under
control. <Do you even realize what you have done to me?>

"I know perfectly well what I did." Beltane replied, getting rather
irritated herself. "I restored your memories of who you where before
you became the Wrath of God; and if you kill me, you will be no
closer to redemption than you were that fateful day all those eons
ago."

A pang of hestitation raced through the Spectre's psyche, usually he
would have happily transformed a monster like Beltane into something
he could break into a million little pieces. But what would that type
of sadistic excutetion accomplish in the long run? Didn't he accepted
his punishment because he wanted to make resitution? An angry howl
poured out of his very body.

A gleam of hope appeared in Beltane's eyes. "You understand now,
Spectre? Now you have to sympathize with my plight and-"

"Say goodnight, Gracie!"

Beltane was interrupted with a sucker-punch directly to the head. She
fell to the floor with a dull thud.

I am not at liberty to say who dies, you'll find out soon enough if
J.D. is giving a report to St. Peter or not.
[considering J.D.'s life he's giving his report to the third
assistant to the associate of the assistant third order, dept.#3]

That all said, the story continues, momentarily by my schedule.

CHAPTER SIX

Cross Bow and I had the watch, I glanced at my watch and to my
dismay less then a minute had passed since my having to stand here,
groggy eyes trying to focus on shifting shadows, most caused by the
small fire glowing so brightly[although intentionally low-barely
glowing just to keep the coffee brewing]-and with some one I didn't
know from Adam on the other side of the camp, somewhere, armed with a
cross bow [which probably explains his name I'm willing to bet!]
doing who knows what over there-

Suddenly and without warning- someone had placed a rather sharp
object to my neck, probably the same pepper flavored breath hissing in
my ear
"Don't even twitch yanque!"

There was a commotion, not just my new friend embracing me in such a
way I didn't dare exhale, but withen the camp.
I caught a glimpse of the Flash, bound and gagged, heard shouts, caught
a glimpse of Sam hauling some one up a tree, someone with long blonde
hair,as shouts in English and Spanish tried to drown each other out.

I then saw Faust, gasp, shudder, clutch at his chest as his left arm
went spastic, his eyes rolled back he gasped for air and collapsed.

At that point a red flare lit up, from somewhere someone [in a mask
I am sure] fired a flare into the fire place.

Next thing I knew my new shadow and I hit the ground, rolling, I heard
shots even as a blinding white light hit the scene.

Adding to atmosphere here in the jungle carnival of absurdity-I
thought I saw a bit of purple haze, figured my wicked youth was
catching up to me -then blackness.

I came to as Cross Bow poured some water on my face.

I shook my head, feeling glad to still be breathing, as my eyes
cleared I spotted Cross Bow kneeling over Faust, next to him was some
beared guy in fatigues.

I tried to set up,coughed and spotted what looked to me like four
children 3 boys and a girl who were playing dress-up and found
themselves in a real battle.

Dazed, stunned, confused, crying, and in shock would describe them and
pretty much myself.

Cross Bow stood up and came over to me "Faust appears to be dead of a
heart attack, all of our crew is missing, and there are several dead
gurrellas all members of the People's Revolutionary Army" he looked
over towards the bearded man who was putting onjects into a bag.
"Dr. Mustapha over there and myself are the only ones alive but not
frightened and in shock, how are you?"

I shook my head and mumbled something about being frightened and in
shock myself.
"Sam grabbed Angel!" I said pointing to a tree.
Cross Bow shook his head "Empty."

The doctor came over and began checking me out.
"You'll live senor no serious injuries"
"What about my throat?" I gasped.
He shrugged and gave me a sip of water.
"Best I can do."

I stood up and the doctor introduced himself "I am Doctor Mustapha a
volunteer by mandate doctor for the People's Revolutionary Army these
young ones have just been drafted into the army and really are not
soldiers.
On behalf of my unit of which as a Captain I am a senior officer of
I offer our surrender if you will promise to get us out of
here,alive."
"He told me the same thing" C.B. said "What he hasn't said is where
the hell did our friends go!"

His muffled electronically altered voice sounded angry.
Which made me shiver then I turned to the doctor who looked all of 17
and 70 all at once.
"Where did they go doc? I know Cross Bow would just as soon use his
little toys on you as look at you"

I was ad libbing desperately. Cross Bow shot me a look which I could
read through his mask.

The four teenieboppers reacted with not so much as a twitch.
They were only here technically-not in actual fact at this point.

For my self that also applied-just with a little less lost in space
about me.

The 'volunteer' doctor shrugged "The Lizards have them, they
sometimes prey on locals who are not of thier tribe."
He looked sad "They kill sometimes and they take away sometimes."
He muttered a prayer under his breath.
"Allah help me get away from these children of Sheitan!"

The four kid commandoes seemed to huddle closer togeather.

Cross Bow then said sternly "Just tell us how to find these lizards!"

He shook his head "I can only give you generalized directions then
suggest you head another direction"

Cross Bow shrugged "That'll do then these..." he indicated the wooden
soldiers "Can go home"

"I'll draw you a map. And go with you, Allah alone knows why but
these children will be home before I am finished drawing."
He nodded at the kids and they became shadows.

"Red indians thier people are, thier people also don't feel in need
of the government so reluctantly they are allied to these so called
Revolutionaires."

He lit a ciggerete and inhaled deeply. I lit one of my own. Cross Bow
just gave us a disgusted look, how it got through his mask I don't
know, possibly it was only in my head.

"I came here three years ago as a volunteer medic as part of an
exchange program between the Ahyatollah and the Leaders of a
different group, but these people..[indicating the corpses] took over
operations and made me a doctor by having me assist another doctor."

He drew quickly as he smoked and talked.
"I will tell your C.I.A. everything just get me out of this madness."

Cross Bow looked at me and I at him. What flew between us was not
hearts and flowers, but rather he and I visually agreed to continue
until the others were rescued.

Besides I had already cashed Faust's check.

"I will do whatever I can to help you get near thier homeland but
please do not ask me to go with you into thier caves, I have already
seen what they can do to a man"

He was terrified, which helped boost my lack of confidence immensely.

Cross Bow on the other hand was already nodding.

"Deal! I can't promise you sanctuary but if you will agree to wait
outside of thier liar I will see that you get evac along with us."

The Doctor nodded enthusiastically.

For myself I wished I was in Dixie- or anywhere but a jungle in
Peru, even so I noted inside I would not now willingly leave until our
mission was done.

Sam,Steve and Angel were friends of mine.

That meant I had to drag thier sorry carcasses out of this snakepit
that has so many of the people I have met tonight afraid.

And I had to do it quickly-in alliance with a costumed weapons nut I
have never heard of.

"Great!" I spit out "What a way to see the world."

George,

Sorry I haven't been in touch much lately. As you can see, I'm behind
in almost everything I'm doing. I have a fair amount of your GA, BC and
Tomahawk story edited, but things haven't been going as well as they
should for me. The stuff I'm writing for Lee's site is going slower
than I planned and I've even had to slow down on my autobiography. I
get tired faster than I used too. The years and diabetes and arthritis
are catching up to me. I'll be 65 the end of July and will celebrate my
40 wedding anniversary on the 7th of July, so I guess I have reason to
be tired. I lay awake for at least an hour before finally falling
asleep whether I go to bed at 10 P.M or at 3 A.M., then I can't seem to
wake up until 11 or 12 AM.

I am certainly looking forward to combining the parts of this story and
reading them in a sitting or two.

Gotta go now, getting tired again

Don

Good chapter George. I like the way you have the have the fight a
confused mish-mosh because it's told from Jonni Double's point of
view.

We buried Faust in a shallow grave out of neccesity same reason we
left the soldiers where they lay.

As dawn brokewe packed up our supplies and what weapons we could.
"So why the quick agreement with Doctor Feelbad?" I asked Cross Bow.
"Easy I knew what he wanted and cut to the quick, you got a problem
with that Double?"
"Call me J.D. and no, no problem I was surprised how quickly it all
went unless you two had spoken previously..." I squinted my eyes at
the masked weaponeer.
"No but it made logical sense considering the way he was babbling,
and uh J.D.?"
"What?"
"Don't call me C.B. alright, I'm not exactly a communications system
for truckers dig?"
"Got you Cross Bow, but speaking of message systems any chance you
can contact the J.S.A., Teen Titans or I don't know The Boy Scouts
maybe?"

We had been walking with that last remark he stopped in his tracks.
"I tried last night right after that purple cloud left."
He paused for a moment then continued "Got no response I figure
they'er all busy. But we'll be fine."

I grimaced "How do you figure?"

I heard him chuckle then he responded "I'm with the notorius J.D.
what harm can come my way?"

We walked in silence after that.

The doctor waited until we broke for lunch to explain some of last
night.
"That purple cloud! It took some people away and killed others!
I have never seen anything like it!"

Cross Bow nodded "I have" he said "Been tracking that thing since
1943 myself, first heard of it then and it has a tendency to pop up
at odd places and times."

He looked at me,grinned [he had opened a section of his mask so he
could eat.
"I'm older then I look J.D."

I laughed "I guess so."
Then asked "How come I never heard of you if you've been around since
43?" I didn't really believe he was all that older then me, he
couldn't be, the part of his face I saw looked like someone barely
old enough to shave.

He laughed "You have, you just don't know it yet." He refastened his
lower mask "Time to move out we have to reach the friendlies before
dark if we want to sleep peacefully tonight."

The friendlies were a local native band who lived near a mission.
Just like in the westerns.
There Doc hoped to catch some news from the outside world not
filtered through the propaganda of his 'allies' and do what he could
as a doctor while we went on-into the valley of death or whatever
they called it here.
