Is There a Connection Between Food Allergies and Mental Health?

Article Description:
====================

When it comes to the topic of food allergies, many of us think of
young children and peanut allergies. After all, the
sometimes-fatal reactions of those with peanut allergies are
responsible for warnings on food, in restaurants, and other
establishments where one may come in contact with peanuts or
peanut residue. You should know, though, that food allergies go
well beyond peanuts, young children, and physical reactions.

Is There a Connection Between Food Allergies and Mental Health?

When it comes to the topic of food allergies, many of us think of
young children and peanut allergies. After all, the
sometimes-fatal reactions of those with peanut allergies are
responsible for warnings on food, in restaurants, and other
establishments where one may come in contact with peanuts or
peanut residue. You should know, though, that food allergies go
well beyond peanuts, young children, and physical reactions.

How many times have we all heard the old adage, “You are what you
eat”? Plenty! Americans, especially, hear this constantly, along
with staggering statistics about how obese and unhealthy we are;
how the children of today are expected to be the first to be
outlived by their parents’ generation!

In addition to health risks such as heart disease, diabetes, and
a host of obesity-related illnesses and complications, have you
ever made a connection between foods and mental illness? Not
alcohol or other drugs, but foods. More specifically, food
allergies may be responsible for a significant number of mental
health related issues!

There are actually four different types of food allergies (IgE or
Type 1, IgG or Type 3, IgM, and IgA) that can have an effect on
your digestive system and, in turn, your mental healthfulness.
Type 1 (IgE) allergies are the type of food allergies that get
the most attention. Occurring in roughly 2-5% of the population,
mainly children, these are the allergies that present in
frightening suddenness.

Hives, stomach cramps, swelling, wheezing, and even anaphylaxis
can all occur with Type 1 food allergies. In fact, in the U.S.
alone, approximately 30,000 people with have food-induced
anaphylaxis in a given year, approximately 150 of those resulting
in death. The deaths are usually of adolescents and young adults.

Because food allergies are not completely understood, and
certainly not always identified before they cause a severe or
even fatal reaction, this past June, the National Institute of
Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) announced new grants of
over $5 million to be devoted to further study. In addition, the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is planning to contribute
another $2 million, spread over two years, to the same research.

Type 3 (IgG) allergies can show reactive effects up to several
days later, so often the connection between an ailment and the
food(s) eaten isn’t even made by the sufferer or perhaps even any
medical practitioners with whom they consult. Shockingly, 45-60%
of the population suffers from Type 3 food allergies, many of
them never being aware of it.

These Type 3 delayed food reactions have been linked to over 100
different allergic symptoms and 150 different medical diseases.
The mental health issues associated with delayed food allergies
include: ADHD, anxiety, autism, chronic fatigue (which can go
beyond just physical feelings and affect mental health, as well),
depression, dizziness (often associated with anxiety),
hyperactivity, lethargy, PMS, tension, weight gain and weight
loss (both of which tend to have an effect on self-esteem).

So how exactly do these food allergies and reactions contribute
to the mental health issues named above? Quite simply, studies
have already shown a connection between stress, inflammation, and
disease. If you ever eat as a result of feeling stress, your
chances of developing inflammation and food allergies is
increased. This then leads to the effects on mental and physical
health.

The most common food allergies include: tree nuts, peanuts, cow’s
milk, hen’s eggs, soybeans, fish, shellfish, and wheat. For most
of us, many of these are foods we eat frequently. And with a
statistic like up to 60% of Americans have delayed food
allergies, it is cause for concern.

There are different ways to test for food allergies. You can ask
your general practitioner to test, you can ask for a referral to
an allergist, there are even home blood and saliva tests. They
can cost up to several hundred dollars but the investment in your
health is well worth it, even if insurance does not cover them.

Other things you can do at home, to decrease your food reactions,
are: exercise, take appropriate supplements, and avoid foods you
think or know are problematic for you. If you find that
eliminating certain food from your diet increases your wellness,
it’s entirely possible you were suffering from delayed food
allergies!

Some of the most common supplements food allergy sufferers use
include omega 3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA), and iFlora probiotic.
It is always a good idea to check with your family doctor before
adding supplements to your diet, especially if you are on any
other medications, prescribed or otherwise. There can be
interactions and other effects that will end up just adding to
your problems. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

There is a wealth of information available on food allergies,
food allergy testing, and food allergy supplements, on the World
Wide Web. Before you begin searching for products, do your
research and focus on .gov and .org sites. A good way to go about
this is to do a Google search using “inurl:” or “ingov:” without
quotes and followed after the colon by the keywords you want.
This is to help safeguard against promise-anything websites that
won’t deliver the results you need to be truly healthy.

In addition, if you plan to use the web to shop for supplements,
the FDA has some research guidelines to help you. Your health is
your responsibility. You owe it to yourself and anyone depending
on you to get informed and make mental and physical wellness a
priority. Food allergies in you and those you love are worth
looking into.

Petit Larceny: Not Always Petty

Petit Larceny, sometimes referred to as Petty Larceny, is defined
in New York State as a theft of property valued at less than
$1000. In contrast, Grand Larceny is a theft of property at least
$1000 in value.

A lot of people mistakenly assume that a misdemeanor is such a
small crime that the offense will not lead to jail time. This is
often true, but jail time is possible.

In the state of New York, petit larceny is classified as a Class
A Misdemeanor, which is subject to up to one year in jail, along
with the assessments of fines, restitution and court costs. In
most cases a good attorney will get the charges reduced to
something less.

According to the New York Penal Code Section S 70.15, a
conviction for a Class A Misdemeanor is subject to up to one year
in jail, provided certain other conditions are not met. If the
offender uses a weapon in the process of the crime, then the jail
time will be mandated to a minimum of one year. If the offender
had been convicted of other crimes in the previous five years,
then the judge is permitted to consider this additional
information when he or she considers sentencing.

Options

When facing the judge on a Class A Misdemeanor, such as
shoplifting, it is frequently in your best interests to consult
with a criminal defense attorney. The reason is because
prosecutors and judges in New York State have a lot of
flexibility, and an attorney will understand how to help you
negotiate with the court to ensure the best possible outcome.

If it is your first offense, a lawyer could possibly resolve the
case with an “ACOD” (Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal -
sometimes called an ACD). In essence, this is a “keep your nose
clean for six months” result, which if completed without any
further criminal matters, then your record will be wiped clean.

An ACOD frequently involves community service and restitution.

Every case is unique, so not everyone will be able to expect the
best possible outcome of an ACOD, but it is worth pursuing. Your
defense attorney will have a better idea, based on his knowledge
of the law and his experience in the courtroom, as to what could
be expected at sentencing.

Not First Offense

Even if this offense is not your first, an attorney might be able
to negotiate a deal for you. Defendants can work with the
assistance of an attorney to obtain a range of different results.

Fighting The Charges

Fighting a petit larceny may be the best option in some cases. If
the charge is shoplifting, chances are that the store’s security
or the police officer found you in possession of the goods that
you are accused of shoplifting, or perhaps they have you on
video. Still, police and prosecutors often make mistakes along
the way.

You have to consider what evidence that the police have against
you, and the judge you are facing. There many factors that come
into play in making a decision.

A good criminal defense lawyer will know the landmines and how to
navigate through the dangers, to hopefully bring you to a
conclusion in which you are satisfied with the outcome.

Innocent

It is true that you are innocent until proven guilty, and in some
instances, you may actually be “not guilty” as charged. It
happens sometimes where officers pick the wrong person out of the
crowd and file charges that do not reflect the facts, and there
are cases where the “complainant” doesn’t have good records to
document the alleged offense.

If this is the case, your defense lawyer will be your best
friend. Your attorney will know how to show the judge that you
were falsely charged in this case. Your defense attorney will
know how to clear you of the charges against you.

In some cases, your attorney may be able to present your case to
the prosecuting attorney and get your case dismissed even before
it goes to trial.

In Summation...

Petit Larceny is no small crime in the state of New York and
could result in jail time if you don’t have a criminal defense
attorney working on your behalf.

We know people make mistakes, and it is understandable that you
might have to pay a price for your crime, but if you are a first
time offender, don’t take the chance that you could spend time in
jail for a “petty” larceny.

Working with aspiring internet marketers for a dozen years has
been both exhilarating and exasperating.

It's exhilarating to see someone, who just the previous month
was struggling to make the rent payment, finally "get it" and
start regularly selling something that the market loves.

It's exasperating to watch someone who "intellectually"
understands how to build a successful online business, but for
some reason won't do what they know that they should do. For
some reason, they look at the obvious answers, say to themselves,
"there must something else," and then keep on looking for other
solutions.

When you ask these people why they're not building a list,
offering that list what they tell them that they want, and
building real relationships with members of that list, they
respond with a look of bewilderment and contempt.

The real problem seems to be that they know what you know, but
won't do what you are doing and tell them to do to... seemingly
largely out of contempt, and a disbelief that it really can be
that simple.

They are described perfectly by Herbert Spencer, when he said:

"There is a principle which is a bar against all information,
which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to
keep a man in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt
prior to investigation."

Contempt may actually seem like a rather strong word, but how
else would you describe someone observing what you are doing, and
obviously dismissing it as too simplistic.

They understand that it works for those who use it, but for
someone as enlightened as they are, there must be something more
advanced... something more complex.

So they keep look for the secret to online success, and smirk
when they look at the "simpletons" who so willingly dismiss
their right to contempt, and do what is proven to work.

This is of course not about anyone that you know personally.
However, if you are around internet marketing long enough, you
will encounter someone that this seems to describe perfectly.

At that point, please be kind. There is actually nothing that you
can do for a man who chooses to stay locked in everlasting
ignorance.

Buying Profitable Expired Domain Names-Part I

Article Description:

If you are a newbie to the world of expired domain names, buying
a good domain name is not as simple as it looks or feels. If you

Buying Profitable Expired Domain Names-Part I
Copyright (c) 2008 John Khu
Expired Domain Secret
http://www.expireddomainsecret.com

If you are a newbie to the world of expired domain names, buying
a good domain name is not as simple as it looks or feels. If you
succeed in buying a good expired domain name, your buyers will
find it an attractive option to purchase it even at a very good
price. On the other hand, if you make a bad purchase, you may
never be able to sell it to anyone even at very low prices.
Buying expired domain names needs a lot of skills and practical
knowledge. Before buying a set of domain names that are expiring
soon, you may wish learn the basic tricks of locating a good
name. This article provides you some of the most common problems
associated with buying an expired domain name and how you can
take right decisions at the right time.

Everyone keeps taking continuously about domain name extensions
and their possible benefits and demerits. Almost every other
country now sells domains with its own extensions. As an expired
domain trader, you have a range of choices and options while
buying a domain name. However, the current preference and flavor
is still the dot com extensions, as most of the internet surfers
have a habit of typing .com name, even though they are not sure
of the actual domain name. Strangely, people never remember any
other extensions, other than a name with dot com extension.

It is a blessing in disguise for most expired domain name traders
as web surfers automatically type in.com <http://in.com> most of
the time. Next to a dot com web domain name, web surfers remember
.net and .org extensions. If you are not successful in buying a
dot com name, you can choose a good .net expired domain name. If
you are running a non profit, you can go ahead and buy a dot org
name. However, you can stay clear of this name as the current
demand for an expired dot org name is very low.

Of late, two other extensions, dot biz and dot info expired
domain names are available for purchase with a number of expired
domain traders. Several leading businesses and organizations
prefer dot biz and dot info names to carry out their business
activities. Another advantage with these names is that you can
easily brand them by developing a theme based web portal.

There are several other international expired domain name
extensions like dot ws, dot fm, dot tv and others. You may find
several domain name traders trying to promote these names with
glossy and shining campaigns. It is preferable to stay away from
these domains, as they are actually worthless and waste of your
time. Country specific domain names are also available for you to
purchase. Most of the countries of the world have their specific
domain name extensions and a number of them are expiring almost
everyday. However, most of these names could be too restrictive
to be of any real commercial value. You may also need to be the
bona fide citizens of some countries to be able to buy country
specific domain names.

How to Make Your Website Sticky
Copyright (c) 2008 Jason OConnor
Oak Web Works, LLC

Getting people to visit the first time is less than half the
battle. You’ll need them to remain on the site long enough to
take an action that benefits your business for the site to be
effective. A site that gets people to stay there once they’ve
arrived is called “sticky.”

There are myriad ways a website can fail at stickiness. If the
site fails to establish trust, people will probably leave. If the
site seems shoddy, messy or unorganized, people will also leave.
If the site asks too much of the user, like asking them to fill
out a long form without offering any free teaser content before
they can view valuable content, people are going to leave. If a
site is confusing, people will leave. If a site has many broken
links or “Page Not Found” errors, people are going to leave. This
list goes on and on.

On the other hand, if a website offers quality content that is
original, you greatly increase your chances that a visitor will
stay. If your copywriting is compelling, succinct and easy to
consume, people will want to continue reading. You want people to
stay so you can capitalize on their presence. For example, if
your call to action is to get visitors to sign up for your
newsletter, they’ll need to be there long enough to accomplish
the following:

1. Learn that there is a newsletter to sign up for in the first
place
  2. Begin to trust you as an authority in your industry
  3. Get their interest piqued enough to want to learn more from
you
  4. Be compelled enough to actually sign up for your newsletter
  5. Learn to trust you enough to feel comfortable with giving you
their e-mail address

This works for selling online as well. As a matter of fact, it is
even more important to establish interest, trust and authority to
make a sale online because you are lacking the power of one-on-
one in-person communication.

Another factor that makes a site sticky is its ease of use.
People like to get maximum benefit for minimum effort. Have you
ever considered the design of Google’s website? It is one of the
simplest and cleanest home pages in existence. We can all learn
from this. You and your Web vendor ought to be chanting this
mantra through the entire planning and building phase of a new
website: Clean Simple Easy, Clean Simple Easy, Clean Simple Easy.
Say it over and over again.

People hate complicated websites that make them think too much.
They hate feeling confused. They hate feeling stupid. They hate
wasting their time. Many competing websites are a literal click
away. And people have itchy back button fingers.

So to make your website as sticky as possible, create original
and compelling content on a regular basis, establish trust and
above all else, be sure to design it in a way that appears clean,
and is simple and easy to use and to find information.

Recession. It's a scary word that makes even the most fiscally
responsible among us cast a nervous eye on our bank accounts.
Even scarier, not everyone can even agree whether our economy is
in a temporary slump or an all-out free fall. But, recession or
not, you can take steps to ensure that you and your family are
secure in a weak economy.

And, remember to stay calm. The worst thing you can do is make
hasty, fear-based decisions. Take a deep breath and think
rationally. It's important to realize that, with a little
preparation, you can be ready if and when a recession hits. You
can't control the economy, but you can control how you react to
news of an impending recession.

Step One: Sharpen your Job Search Skills

One of the most frightening things about a recession is the
possibility of losing your income when your company decides to
cut costs. Nobody wants to think about being out of work, but
there are things you can do right now to make sure that you
won't be completely caught off guard:

  * Revise your résumé. If you've been out of the job market for
a while, now is the time to give your résumé a makeover. Review
it and add new, relevant work experience, skills, awards, and
anything else that will make you stand out from the crowd if you
need to start looking for a new job.

  * Know your options. It doesn't hurt to start looking at
alternatives - spend a little time skimming through the want ads
in your local paper, and check out job search websites like
Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com. Find out who is hiring people
to do what you do. If you see something that sounds intriguing,
go ahead and apply. You never know - you may find your dream job.
And, remember that some industries are more stable than others:
Healthcare and education, for example, are not as dependant on
the economy as the construction industry. Get creative and think
about how your skills might transfer to a different field.

  * Start networking. Consider joining a business networking group
to expand your list of contacts - they say that when it comes to
landing a job, it's often all about who you know. Connections
can come in handy if you're faced with an unexpected layoff.
Networking sites like LinkedIn.com and even FaceBook.com are
great ways to stay connected to coworkers and business partners.

Remember to keep saving money, even if your job is secure: In a
recession, raises and bonuses tend to be less than they are in a
more stable economy.

Step Two: Beef up Your Emergency Fund

Experts recommend that you should have some extra cash saved up
for emergencies like an injury or the unexpected loss of a job.
Your emergency fund should allow you to cover your mortgage,
bills, groceries, and other living expenses for 3-5 months. If
you already have emergency savings, keep adding to it. If you
don't, start now:

  * Pay yourself first. Even if you're on a tight budget, make an
effort to put something into savings every payday. Make some
adjustments to your spending, like giving up restaurant meals or
cutting your entertainment budget, and start funneling more of
your income into savings.

  * Think Interest. Put your emergency savings into an
interest-bearing savings account or a money market account so
you'll earn some money on it while you save. But, make sure you
don't invest your emergency funds into anything that makes you
pay a penalty for withdrawal, like an IRA - the whole point of
having emergency savings is to have money when you need it.

  * Restrict your access. If you aren't careful, you may end up
spending your emergency fund as fast as you put it away. To avoid
using your emergency savings, consider putting the money into a
separate account at a different bank. And, don't carry an ATM or
debit card that's linked to that account.

Step Three: Don't Spend That Bonus-Raise-Tax Refund-Stimulus
Check Etc...

Even though you might be expecting some additional income this
year, that doesn't mean you have to rush out and spend it.
Instead of rushing to the mall and buying that flat-screen TV
you've been eyeing, take a minute to think about other, more
responsible ways you could use the money:

  * Save it and forget it. It's money you didn't have before, so
it should be pretty easy to pretend you never got it in the first
place. Deposit it into your savings account or use it to pad your
emergency fund. But, do it quickly - the longer you have that
check, the more likely you are to spend it on something
frivolous.

  * Pay off debt. If you've got a car loan, a student loan, or
credit card bills hanging over your head, this is a perfect
opportunity to take a big bite out of your debt.

Step Four: Identify Sources of Extra Cash

Whether you want to add to your emergency fund or just pad your
savings account, there are several things you can do to put a
little extra cash in your pocket:

  * Sell your stuff. Scour your storage spaces, purge your
closets, and ransack your attic. If you haven't worn it, used
it, or thought about it in a decade, it's time to let go. Have a
garage sale, sell it on eBay, or take out a classified ad - put
the extra money into your savings or your emergency fund.

  * Get a second job or work overtime. What better way to impress
the boss than to stay late or come in early to knock out a few
projects? Not only will you show some initiative, you'll also
add to your bottom line. If you don't get overtime, consider a
part-time job on evenings or weekends - a little extra income
never hurts.

You can't prevent a recession, but you can prepare for one by
making smarter financial choices. In any economy, learning to
spend less, save more, and cut costs can pave the way to
financial stability and peace of mind.

Entertainment and service industries - especially those related
to food - always do well when the rest of the world is tightening
its belt. After all, people still need to eat.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that restaurant
positions will continue to grow at a faster than average rate
over the next ten years. However, although positions are
available everywhere, high-end restaurant industry jobs can be
pretty competitive. That's why job seekers have to be more
diligent than ever in their pursuit of the ideal restaurant
position.

Where to Find the Jobs

Traditionally, most people seeking employment in restaurant
industry jobs go to the job boards first. Unfortunately, most of
these postings - from newspaper classifieds and online job
seeking sites to lists at your local unemployment office - are
severely restricted in their ability to offer a strong culinary
career foothold. Not only are quality restaurant positions scarce
in these locations, but when one does appear, they are often
inundated with thousands of prospective employees. In fact,
getting a job in this manner is often compared to the proverbial
search for the needle in the haystack.

Although working in a culinary career isn't quite the same as
working in show business, the basic tenets of finding a job are
the same. It's not what you know, but who you know that really
matters. Networking - whether this means knowing somebody with
connections in top-notch restaurant industry jobs or simply being
in the right place at the right time - is the single most
important factor in landing restaurant positions with room for
upward mobility.

Making Restaurant Networking Connections

In today's Internet age, networking also extends to include
locating online resources that can put you into contact with
employers through the use of restaurant recruiters. These
placement services, offered through firms like JDeane Jobs, allow
you to network only with companies on the lookout for new
employees. It's like cutting through all the levels of red tape
to find the shortest path to your new culinary career.

Unlike the job boards, which offer employers few security or
screening options, JDeane allows employers to look for candidates
who are especially qualified to fulfill their open restaurant
positions. Because JDeane provides a screening process that
evaluates your skills a hospitality industry professional as well
as your unique qualifications and the goals you want most out of
your culinary career, employers don't have to worry about who
they are considering. Like you, they go to JDeane first to build
professional relationships that will result in long-term
employment.

The benefits of these services also extend to the prospective
employees. Although there are certainly exceptions, high-quality
restaurant positions tend to be restricted to metropolitan areas.
Candidates seeking employment often find themselves facing the
prospect of moving to a new city in order to get the restaurant
industry jobs they want the most. Knowing with absolute certainty
that a restaurant is serious about considering you for employment
can make a big difference when it comes time to fly in for an
interview.

When you choose a reputable firm like JDeane Jobs, you also get
the peace of mind of knowing that you are only looking at leading
restaurant industry jobs. As a recognized brand, they rely on
integrity and professionalism to match top employers with the
right job candidates. This can mean all the difference when you
are facing a career move or are looking to start a culinary
career that will last for years. It all boils down to one basic
truth: when you work with leading restaurant recruiters, you find
the leading restaurant positions.

Getting Your Culinary Career Off the Ground

Whether you are looking for a transition into a brand new
culinary career or you seek restaurant positions that offer
greater advancement opportunities, finding a new job is hard
work. Take advantage of an economy that favors restaurant
industry jobs by networking with the best professional culinary
career placement services and restaurant recruiters available
today through JDeane Jobs.

Fiction and Forgiveness

Tiorunda Stories
http://tiorundastories.com/

No one could have told me that writing a novel could turn out to
be a form of therapy, a way of forgiving, an aesthetic venue for
surrendering a rage that I had held on to for most of my adult
life. Having just completed my first novel, Tiorunda Stories, I
now know that it is possible to create fiction as a way of
reframing memory, of recreating an old story, of reimagining the
facts of my past in order to let go of an emotional albatross.

Most of us, I believe, go through life holding on some old
resentment - anger at a parent, rage at a sibling, rejection of a
lover, a teacher who may have failed us, a career we hate, and,
of course someone who may have abused us, either physically or
emotionally. Our rage may be totally legitimate. But, as I was to
discover writing my novel, the pain I was to eventually let go of
had really nothing to do with the empirical facts.

To this day, I do not know whether my father told my mother to
leave or she left of her own accord when I was in my early teens.
All I really know is that I held on to my rage well after I
received my first social security check. I was to experience that
anger throughout my adulthood at such a level that I literally
hardened my heart against a woman, my mother, whom I neither knew
nor cared to know.

It wasn't until I began to write my mother into my novel as a
fabricated character that I began to feel into the anguish I
imagined her to have felt in being abandoned into silence by her
community and at least one of her children. The era my mother
lived in when all of this happened was the 1950s, an era that
judged women more harshly than men for leaving their children.

In the novel, I create a woman who is emotionally and
psychologically rejected by her husband; I freely gave her a
legitimate reason for her sexual "wanderings beyond the
hearth," a phrase one of the priests uses in the novel. It was
through these acts of infidelity resulting from the crushing
rejection of the fictional character's husband that I began to
empathize with my mother's plight.

It didn't matter to me that my novel was fictional, that I
grafted onto my character an emotion that I had always felt
because my mother was absent from most of life, or that I took
the "rumors" of my father's emotional rejection of my mother
and worked them into a fictional world.

What mattered more to me than any factual information about
culpability was that I was psychologically freeing myself of an
old wound, that I could literally create in myself the wonderful
freedom of letting go, of surrendering to the sweet and tender
spot of love that I never allowed myself to feel for my mother.

I am also convinced that we delude ourselves into believing that
there is always a clear distinction between fact and fiction. One
famous psychologist claims that trauma is the only reaction that
never lies. And fiction, which one writer calls a "lie that
always tells some truth" may be the only way that we can resolve
the traumas of our early childhood. And I believe, in the end,
that I have given it my best shot.

Leadership ---- Are You Giving Back?

Article Description:
====================

We often talk about coaching and mentoring being key ingredients
to effective leadership. Two thoughts come to my mind every time
I hear the words --- coach and mentor. My first thought is that
it is very rare for any organization to provide actual training
on how to coach or mentor employees. It is often left up to the
individual as a leader to figure that out. My second thought is
the realization that most of our actions toward our employees
come naturally as a result of the kind of leadership model we
have personally created.

Leadership ---- Are You Giving Back?
Copyright (c) 2008 Rick Johnson
CEO Strategist LLC
http://www.ceostrategist.com

We often talk about coaching and mentoring being key ingredients
to effective leadership. Two thoughts come to my mind every time
I hear the words --- coach and mentor. My first thought is that
it is very rare for any organization to provide actual training
on how to coach or mentor employees. It is often left up to the
individual as a leader to figure that out. My second thought is
the realization that most of our actions toward our employees
come naturally as a result of the kind of leadership model we
have personally created.

The "Servant Mentality?"

Effective leaders build their models on the sum of their
experiences, knowledge and deeds as well as their mistakes. This
truth is at the core of learning how to be a winner instead of a
survivor. Effective leaders go through a never ending development
process that includes education, self study, training, experience
and coaching and mentoring from one or several individuals that
have a very positive influence on their personal development.
After all, leadership defined is the ability to influence,
inspire and motivate others to accomplish specific objectives. It
includes creating a culture that helps direct the organization in
such a way that it makes it cohesive and coherent keeping short
term tactical goals and objectives in alignment with long term
strategic initiatives.

With those thoughts in mind, I would like to ask you a few simple
questions. Do you have a servant mentality? Are you committed to
the development of the employees that surround you? Do you have
the insight to feel and see the needs of those employees you are
leading? Do you reach out with understanding and a willingness to
help every individual realize their maximum potential?

These are tough questions. Questions that I doubt any individual
can answer in the affirmative 100% of the time. Sometimes we have
no idea how impactful our actions or our words as leaders can
have on individual lives. Often times we never find out or we
find out months, even years later how we affected someone else's
life. Zig Ziglar oftens says ..... "You can get everything you
want in life by helping others get what they want." If you
follow Zig's advice it can be extremely satisfying.

The Rewards are Phenomenal

I often get feedback about my articles or "Off the Cuff" tips
that I send out bi-monthly. The majority are very complimentary
and rewarding. Occasionally I'll receive one that really touches
my heart and helps me realize the power we have in the words we
say and write. Let me share this e-mail with you as a way of
demonstrating how reaching out to help others can be the most
rewarding thing you can do as a leader.

Dear Mr. Rick,

I received an email from one of my wonderful friends with your
article attached. He's so wonderful because he knew I needed to
read your article --- "Wounded Wolves - The Journey Back". I
had just been crying for the loss of my son along with other
problems that I have. But you know, you made me realize that
nothing can happen if I don't let it happen. And my life is in
God's hands and I should be worried about my next positive step
towards making ME feel better about My LIFE. My life had been
hell, really, before I read your words. My kids say that
everything that has happened to them was my fault. But they need
to accept that there life is what it is, BECAUSE OF THEIR ACTIONS
AND NOT MINE. I'm 56 years old and all I've done all my life is
work at jobs that didn't pay me much, but I was happy. And
that's what counts for me. Now I have my own Travel Biz and I
meet a lot of people. Most of them positive and those that are
negative I wean them out of my life. Right now I'm at my job but
I want to tell you about my life. I want to write a book, but I
don't know the title or where to start. But maybe if I read your
article again, it will inspire me even more. I want people like
me to see that life doesn't discriminate when it wants to take a
child's life, from a mother, no matter what age. And there are
other things that I go through in life that is normal. It's what
I do to learn from it, that's what is important. Not to make as
many mistakes as possible. After all, no one is perfect. I must
think things out first, before I proceed. Thanks so much for
helping me. You have no idea what your words mean to me.

C.H.

A Rare Opportunity

Sometimes we just don't realize as leaders the rare opportunity
we have to reach out and touch other people's lives. This
e-mail, along with several others, helped me understand more
clearly how important our words and actions are in relationship
to the people we may have an influence on. We must recognize the
critical responsibility we accept as leaders and do everything in
our power to have a positive influence on the development of our
employees. You may have no idea how your words and actions are
impacting the very lives of the people you lead.

Leaders Can Be Found Everywhere

It doesn't matter what your title is, whether you are a
supervisor, sales manager, vice president, CFO, COO, President,
CEO, Foreman, Lead Person or just an employee that really cares
about doing a great job. It doesn't matter how talented or
educated you are, or how many people you know. If you are a
leader, you will recognize the need to have a servant mentality.
And, if you are a leader, you impact lives. Take that
responsibility seriously.

Yes, you can learn skills to make you a better leader. You should
definitely make a commitment to develop your leadership skills
starting with coaching and mentoring. Effective leaders must go
through a never ending development process. We never stop
learning and we never stop growing. You must develop or possess a
unique understanding of people. The success of leadership in this
process is directly influenced by the individual leaders'
beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge and skills.

Remember This

Position and title may give you power but power in itself does
not make you an effective leader. You have an obligation as a
leader to be the best you can be. There is too much at stake.
Secondly, realize that you have a major obligation and a major
responsibility to give. Give to those you lead. Give of yourself,
your knowledge, your compassion and your understanding. Make a
personal commitment to make every employee you have reach their
maximum potential. Improve on that percentage often quoted by
many human resource experts that less than 20% of all employees
actually perform according to their potential. And finally, it's
about touching the lives of those around you with such a gentle
kindness that your act will be remembered for years to come.
Taking the time to listen to your own internal intuition,
humbling yourself to do what you know is the right thing to do.
And, if it makes you a little uncomfortable, recognize that is
what having a servant's mentality is all about. It's selfless
effective leadership at its best. This does not come naturally.
It takes dedication, passion and commitment to the process.

7 Sure-Fire, Foolproof Ways to Catch Your Cheating Spouse!
Copyright (c) 2008 Alex Russell
Letters From Santa
http://www.PackageFromSanta.com

Seeing the recent media coverage of the marriage of Nick Cannon
and Mariah Carey's quickie island wedding has brought out a lot
of cynics. There seems to be strong undertones to a quickie
celebrity marriage from a few years ago - anyone remember Renée
Zellweger and Kenny Chesney? Yeah, that one ended in a quickie
annulment. Don't get me wrong, there have been no accusations of
cheating between any of the celebrities I've mentioned, but it
happens in other marriages!

Cheating comes in many forms. There's online cheating, where
your spouse may not ever meet the other person in real life but
spends plenty of time emailing, chatting, instant messaging, and
maybe sending pictures or videos through the internet. There's
also emotional cheating, which has received a lot of media
attention in the past few years. Emotional cheating can start off
as a casual acquaintanceship or friendship. There may not even be
any overt or obvious flirting involved. But your spouse turns to
this person and confides in them more than they confide in you!
To the cheater, this may not even occur to them be cheating but
it certainly is if it at all affects the quality of the marital
relationship between the two of you!

Finally, there's the type of cheating that comes to mind when
you hear about a marriage breaking up - physical cheating. In
this case, your spouse has strayed from his or her marital vows
and has had a physically intimate relationship with another
person. The level of physical intimacy that constitutes cheating
is different in different relationships. In some cases, hugging
or kissing someone's cheeks is cheating, while in others only
sexual intercourse is considered cheating. The boundaries can
only be decided between the actual married couple.

So what do you do if you suspect your spouse is cheating? There
are lots of ways to catch your spouse cheating. These range from
inexpensive and basic to every expensive and more complicated.
Just remember, if your gut is telling you something is wrong,
there's a good chance there is. Your intuition is there for a
reason so pay attention to it!

1. Ask Them. Yes, ask them! Some cheaters, especially if it's
been going on for awhile, are suffering from a really guilty
conscience. Just the mere act of you asking, can knock your
spouse off-guard enough to elicit a truthful response. This
strategy isn't for everyone, though. If you use it without
having seen any "signs or symptoms", you could really send your
relationship into turmoil for awhile or even do permanent damage
to the trust you two have. If your partner is determined to keep
both you and the other person, they are probably not going to
tell you the truth. But the mere act of you asking is going to
set them up to be more careful and cover their tracks more. So be
wary of this tactic!

2. Check the computer. There are lots of things to check on the
computer your spouse uses. Check the browser history to see what
websites they're visiting. If you don't know what a website is,
just click on the address and you'll find out. You can also
install a key logger application that will track every keystroke
your spouse makes. If installing something isn't your thing, you
can also buy an external device to attach to the computer that
will do the same thing. Just be careful because if your spouse is
very tech savvy, they may recognize such a device. If you do use
a key logger, take note of passwords and then check their emails,
social networking accounts, etc. But beware - some of the
programs you may log into may show the user is online to the
user's friends. You might find yourself in a bad situation if
someone tries to chat with you and catches on that you aren't
your spouse! Then again, that could be just the proof you need!

3. Take a lie detector test. If you can get your spouse to take
one, you can write down whatever questions you want the examiner
to ask. Just keep in mind that whatever you find out, even if
it's nothing, is probably going to significantly alter the trust
levels in your relationship. And, in most cases, the results
can't later be used in court such as in divorce proceedings.

4. Set a trap. Tell your spouse you're going out of town for the
weekend, then hunker down and watch. You may even need to follow
your spouse at some point, so it may be a good idea to use
another car. Spouses are more likely to cheat when they think
their significant others are out of town or otherwise occupied.
You could also arrange for someone to make a pass at your spouse
and record the conversation. A private investigator can also
arrange all of these things from the surveillance to the person
hitting on your spouse.

5. Vary your schedule. Come home at unusual times and "run
into" your spouse seemingly coincidentally. You never know what
you might see them doing!

6. Pay attention to changes. Changes in physical appearance -
going to the gym more often, tanning salon visits, new hair
styles, colognes, under clothes, new showering habits, and new
clothes can all be signs that your spouse is trying to impress
someone new. Changes in behavior - suddenly having lots of late
night meetings, staying awake long past when you might both
normally go to bed, talking on the phone to one particular friend
more often, not wanting to have sex as much, or significant
changes in attention and affection with you.

7. Test their DNA! If you do a web search for infidelity tests,
you'll find that you can test 5-10 articles of clothing with a
single test. Tests are not as expensive as you might think and
could bring a big peace of mind... or the need for a lawyer!

General Tips and Suggestions to Help You in Expired Domain Search

Expired Domain Secret
http://www.expireddomainsecret.com

Buying an expired domain could be a risky proposition and a tough
exercise, if you do not the art and skill of how to excel in
expired domain search. Expired domain search is also a tedious
exercise that involves sifting and searching through a big
database of domain provided by your registrar. Almost all
registrars maintain and make available a huge inventory of
expired domains through their web site. To buy your favorite
expired domain name, you will need to be very smart and agile in
grabbing the name at the last minute.

However, many expired domain traders make a big blunder of
choosing and buying wrong domains, which eventually leads a big
monetary loss and inventory of unsold domains. Many a time,
purchased expired domains may be of inferior quality and it may
be very tough to dispose it off to a third party. Expired domain
search is a complicated thing and involves a series of steps and
actions that ensures a steady supply of great sounding domain
names.

A streamlined and organized expired domain search should involve
the following aspects and issues:

a) An extended search to check for the overall viability of the
domain, whether its URL is top level or not. Top level domain is
often very difficult to find; however, people are registering
specialized domains based on their country of origin or type of
business. Country level top domains seem to be the current flavor
and you may wish to look for one that has few letters in its URL
address.

b) Performing an expired domain search based on the perceived
future commercial viability in terms of profits and rate of
return over the investment. Industry estimates suggest that the
average rate of return on an expired domain is in the range of
about 30% to 40%; however, you may need to find a domain that has
the ability to provide better yields than the normal ROI.

c) Looking through an extended inventory of expired domains could
take countless number of hours, as at any given point of time,
you can find more than a million domains ready for sale and
purchase. Thus, to conduct a refined expired domain search as an
expired domain trader, you will need to use a highly
sophisticated method of surfing through the list and short
listing the best among the lot.

Well organized expired domain search involves two important
issues such as:

i) To identify and seek those domains that has plenty of traffic
and inbound links

ii) To find and search for those domains those are easy to recall
and remember.

To check the total number of back links attached to an expired
domains name, you can follow this simple procedure:

On a search engine input field, use the phrase "link" before
the fill domain URL and start searching for possible entries.
Now, the search result will return the complete list of links
attached to particular domains. For example, link: www.aaa.com
will return a list of back links for that web site. More numbers
of back links means more numbers of visitors for that web site.
Expired domain names offer a great opportunity and an exciting
option for anyone who wishes to make money online. With today's
modern technology, highly sophisticated tools and innovative
developments, any one can conduct an efficient expired domain
search to find the best possible domain name.

domains and their eternal secrets.

When Following-the-Leader Gets Your Business in Trouble

Article Description:
====================

On a hot summer day in the early 1990's, I was standing in the
middle of a California freeway. Four cars were piled up around
me, and ambulances, fire engines, and the California Highway
Patrol were arriving one after the other. Our paramedic unit had
parked where the first-in unit had told us to park, and we were
working on the car that first medic on-scene had directed us to.
Per protocol, the first paramedic on-scene was the "incident
commander" until a higher ranking command officer or supervisor
arrived.

When Following-the-Leader Gets Your Business in Trouble
Copyright (c) 2008 Mark Silver
Heart Of Business
http://www.heartofbusiness.com/

On a hot summer day in the early 1990's, I was standing in the
middle of a California freeway. Four cars were piled up around
me, and ambulances, fire engines, and the California Highway
Patrol were arriving one after the other.

Our paramedic unit had parked where the first-in unit had told us
to park, and we were working on the car that first medic on-scene
had directed us to. Per protocol, the first paramedic on-scene
was the "incident commander" until a higher ranking command
officer or supervisor arrived.

Unfortunately, that first-in medic was a rookie, and things got
out of hand quickly. Ambulances were blocked in by fire trucks.
We didn't know which hospital to go to for fear of overloading
them. In short, the situation was a mess.

We were just following the leader, into what was politely termed
. . . Well, I won't tell you what we called it, because,
honestly, it's not actually polite.

It's (Usually) Better to Follow Someone Else... Luckily, you are
not the first person to go into business, and most likely not the
very first person to go into your kind of business. It's all
been done before, so it makes a lot of sense to just copy someone
else.

You pick someone you admire, you watch what they're doing, and
you copy'em. I've followed many people at different times
myself. It works.

Until It Doesn't... Here's the thing about business: just
because someone is great at two, or three, or ten things,
doesn't mean they know about everything. And yet, because their
business is working, it's easy for outside observers, like you
or me, to think that everything they do is on purpose.

For the emergency personnel at that accident scene, following the
leader made a big mess, and potentially endangered people's
lives. That rookie medic was actually a great paramedic, and yet
he didn't have much experience at running a larger incident like
that.

A Business Example... When I first started a newsletter, back in
1999, fancy html newsletters weren't really possible. Even by
2005, html newsletters with graphics, formatting, and colors were
having a heckuva time getting good delivery rates compared to
plain-text emails.

So, we decided to stay plain text. And then I discovered, just a
few weeks ago, that my email program, Eudora, was old-school and
simply ravaged all html newsletters. I switched to Apple Mail,
and wow . . . that's what html newsletters look like. I never
knew.

Humiliating, really. I mean, how out-of-touch can I be? It was a
good decision that had devolved into a goof, with the end result
being that we're going to switch to an html newsletter as soon
as our new web site redesign is done.

But, in the meantime, I know bunches of people who have copied
Heart of Business and have stuck with plain text emails into
2008, thinking I had some secret knowledge . . . Oops. (chagrin)

The Way Out... When I had a spare moment, I looked up from my
patient in the car, and I saw a lieutenant from the fire
department talking to the medic in charge. After a few moments, I
saw them both nod, and the lieutenant took the command vest and
started re-arranging the scene.

The whole incident took probably 30 minutes longer than it needed
to, but in the end, all the patients were taken care of, the
highway was cleared, and we were back at the station eating
lunch.

Sometimes you just really need someone to follow--it's too hard
to figure everything out on your own. And, yet, you can't follow
blindly. If that lieutenant hadn't stepped in, who knows what
might have happened?

Let me share with you some ideas on how to follow someone's
example without getting into too much of a mess.

Keys to Follow-The-Leader.

  * Watch first.

When you've chosen someone you think you want to follow, watch
them for awhile. See what they do. Is what they are doing working
for them? There are lots of folks out there who are, as they say
in Texas, "all hat and no cattle." Meaning they have a lot of
confidence, but not yet a lot of experience or a proven track
record.

Look for the track record. And wait and watch. Contrary to
popular business belief, there's no rush.

  * Listen to your heart.

I'm a little predictable with this one, being the "Heart of
Business" guy- but DO it. If you're following in someone's
footsteps, and after awhile you start to get the feeling that
you're not so sure . . . listen up!

Time to back up, take a breath, look for alternatives.

  * When in doubt, ask.

Even big wigs are accessible. You'd be surprised how many people
answer their own email. So ask'em!

"I noticed, Mark, that you're using plain text email and it's
2008. Would you mind giving me the two-sentence version of why?"

Er . . . umm . . . because I'm stuck in 1999?

Following the leader is an essential and inexpensive way to
develop your business. And yet, don't forget that no leader is
infallible. You want to stay awake, ask questions, and pay
attention to your heart. The combination will really take your
business places...

The best of my business to you and your business,

Mark Silver

When I watched the Opening Ceremony, I was entranced. It began
with giant footprints in the sky made of fireworks, leading the
way to the stadium. The stadium was built specifically for the
Olympics in the shape of a bird's nest, which is considered a
lucky symbol in China. Once at the stadium, fire appeared to race
around the top edge of the structure before falling to the ground
within like a comet. Two large rectangles full of what turned out
to be drummers began performing along with a flickering light
show that made patterns from the different drums. It was amazing.

The Opening Ceremony traced the history of China, featuring a
huge LED screen that unrolled like a scroll upon the stadium
floor. The idea of an unrolling LED screen that people could
dance and march upon was ingenious. The screen had images and
symbols going by as dancers painted on yet another floor screen,
creating a landscape in the style of Chinese brush painting.
Next, there were many people in flowing, costumes. A large amount
of blocks were in place on the LED screen, and we were treated to
a patterned dance by the blocks, first moving like ripples in a
pond, then forming Chinese characters and the Great Wall. After
it was over, people popped up from each block. They must have
practiced for weeks to get the choreography right.

One of my favorite parts was the single dancer in the flowing
neon costume who danced upon a moving floor carried by many other
people in bright green costumes. She had long flowing ribbons
that she waved as part of her dance. Many people then came out
carrying large oars. They did what looked like the wave while
images of ocean waves played on the top scrim in the stadium. The
oarsmen eventually formed a boat around the enter LED screen,
which showed images of Chinese ships.

The costumes were amazing. They looked like they were made of
silk and other fine fabrics. They say there were 15,000
performers in this Opening Ceremony... and they all had marvelous
costumes of vibrant colors. The bright dresses and traditional
costumes added to the pageantry. The costumes were so detailed,
from the perfect pleats to the tiny gold baubles in the dancers'
hair. China has a reputation of being highly populated, and
everything they did used masses of people, which helped bring
that feeling to mind. The sheer numbers that performed so
beautifully is mind-boggling.

The lighted suits were really cool. It was like watching stars
running around. They made the shape of a bird, in honor of the
usual pigeons that are traditionally released at the Olympic
Games. The lights then formed a bird's nest, echoing the theme
of the stadium.

The history of martial arts was honored with the Tai Chi
exhibition, and then images of waterfalls covered the upper
scrims while ripples of people made their entrance and got into
place. Children sat in the middle of the screen. The masses of
practitioners performing were amazing.

I think my favorite part was the astronaut portion. The lights
looked like stars, and the astronauts floating in the air were
really great as planets floated by on the upper scrims. The
people running and tumbling around the circumference of the large
globe was a great effect. The theme song was beautiful and
haunting as images of whales floated by on the ceiling. The sea
of faces they showed during the theme song brought tears to my
eyes, as it brought individuality of all nationalities to the
show.

The fireworks were amazing. So many colors, so many patterns. The
usual parade of nations was done according to the number of
strokes in the Chinese names for those countries rather than
alphabetically, which made if interesting as you didn't know who
was coming next. There were over 200 countries there to compete
in the Olympic Games. They slowly filled the center of the
stadium with all the athletes who were there to compete. The
small child who came out with the China team was so cute, waving
a little flag as he marched.

The speeches were nice, but I really preferred the pageantry of
the earlier portion of the ceremony. China really set the bar
high for anyone hosting future Olympic Games for the Opening
Ceremony. I hope we'll see more imaginative and innovative
ceremonies in the future. This one was very entertaining,
touching and gave a true flavor of China.

A good body detox program is going to be one that provides you
with the detoxification you want and all the benefits that go
with removing toxins from the body without the harsh side effects
that often come with. The best type of body detox program is one
that is gentle on your body and that allows you detox your body
without having to living in your bathroom or feel horribly ill.

This is because a good body detox program is going to take things
slowly and gradually and allow your body to do most of the work.
After all the human body has a number of different organs and
processes that are designed to remove toxins from the system and
from the body entirely. This is why it is important to provide
those organs with the nutrients and materials they need in order
to be able to do their job.

There are a number of different foods that you can eat on a daily
basis that can provide you with a body detox as well as a number
of vitamins and minerals that support your body when you look for
a body detox program or they can be used before you start a body
detox program. The first thing to do is change your diet. Just
little things added to your meals can make a big difference when
it comes to getting the most out of a body detox program.

For vegetables try added things like broccoli, cabbage, Brussels
sprouts and cauliflower. Make sure not to cook these too much.
You will want some cooking as this softens the food and makes it
easier to digest. Foods that are easier to digest usually provide
a greater amount of the nutrients you need. You do have to be
careful though too much and you destroy the benefits too little
and you end up not getting everything you can from them.

You can also try whole grains, pulses; peppers, tomatoes; onions
and garlic are good as well as cold water fish, olive oil, seeds,
even walnuts and Flaxseed oil can help support a good body detox
program. You should also drink plenty of water look into
different ways to reduce stress including massage and mediation.
Massage helps the muscles of the body release toxins that are
stored up and become trapped as the muscles tighten and become
stiff.

Exercise, even a little can go a long way. You want to use your
skin to its best advantage, as it is one of the ways that your
body can with the help of a good body detox program release a
large number of toxins. Consider dry skin brushing. This
increases circulation to the skin as well as helps to remove a
variety of surface lying substances such as dry skin cells that
can block the body's use of the skin.

Increase the amount of fiber that you have in your diet when you
are looking at a body detox program. This will keep the bowels
moving, you should have two bowel movements a day in order to
prevent the body from reabsorbing the toxins that are being
eliminated.

Top 5 Things You Can Do to Sell Your House
Copyright (c) 2008 Bob Johnston
HomeGuide411
http://www.homeguide411.com

In the past couple years, the real estate market has been
flagging and the economy overall has been floundering. With the
economy where it is, it is becoming more and more difficult to
sell your home at this time. If you want to sell your home for a
great price, you are going to have to work hard to sell your home
and to make it look desirable in today's market. While it may
seem difficult to sell these days, there are things you can do to
make your home an attractive buy for buyers today. Here are the
top five things you need to do if you want to sell your home as
soon as possible, even on a market that is on the downswing
today.

Add Curb Appeal

First of all, if you want to make sure that your home is an
attractive buy to buyers searching for the right home in a time
when the economy is less than wonderful, the first thing you need
to do is add curb appeal. It's important to remember that first
impressions are very important and when people drive up and see
your home for the first time, you want them to like what they
see. There are many things that can be done to enhance the curb
appeal of your home. A coat of paint on the front of the home can
help, as can some nice landscaping. A new front door or a nicely
paved driveway can help to enhance the curb appeal as well.

Get Rid of Clutter

Getting rid of clutter within your home is also very important if
you want to be able to sell your home quickly on this market. The
more clutter you have, the more equity you can expect to lose in
your home. When you have too many things in one room, the room
does not look as big, which means that people don't concentrate
on the home. If people are not able to see the space in the home,
then they'll be less likely to imagine what it would be like for
them to live there. So, put the clutter away. After all, you were
going to pack it all up anyway.

Take Down Personal Items in Your Home

When you are taking down things in your home, you'll want to
take down personal items first. You'll want to get rid of items
that are personal to you, such as family pictures, special
collections, or even bold colors with decorating. You want the
buyer to be able to visualize how their things are going to look
in the home, which is hard to do when your things are in the way.
If you pack up your personal items and stick with a neutral
décor, they'll be able to imagine how their things would look in
the home.

Clean Everything

Cleaning is so important if you want to be able to sell your home
on a buyers market. It is so important that you make sure that
your entire home is spotless. The last thing people want to see
is anything in the home that is dirty. It is an instant turnoff
to see a dirty tub, a stove that has caked on food, or floors
that look horrible. Scrub everything, vacuum the floors, and make
sure that the windows are sparkling as well. People love walking
into a clean home.

Make Sure it Smells Great

While you may not think about it, the smell of your home is so
important. No one is going to want to purchase a home that smells
bad. If you have a home that smells like a pet, you may need new
carpet. If you smoke in the home, you may need to paint the walls
and add some new carpet as well. Cleaning will also help to make
your home smell better. Also, on the days that people are
visiting your home, make sure you either spray some wonderful
smelling air freshener, or better yet, consider doing some
baking. There is nothing as wonderful as walking into a home that
smells like fresh baked goods. It makes people think of home and
people are more likely to purchase homes that smell great.

These are just a few important things that you can do to help
sell your home faster. Sure, the real estate market is in a bit
of a slump right now, but by using these tips, you can make sure
that your home sells for top dollar, even in a market that is
down.

Top Tips for Women Entrepreneurs
Copyright (c) 2008 Lois P. Frankel, Ph.D.
Corporate Coaching
http://www.corporatecoachingintl.com

By now it's no secret that women are leaving corporate America
to start their own businesses at twice the rate of men.
Statistics show that over 75% of women-owned enterprises open for
business in 1997 were still operating in 2000. That's about
equal to the survival rate of all U.S. businesses. Recent data
also indicates that women invest more in their businesses than do
men. Which just goes to show - women have it what takes to run
and maintain successful operations.

If you're in business for yourself (or thinking about starting
your own company) there are some things you can do to not just
survive, but thrive. Over the past two decades I've grown my own
coaching and speaking business in excess of 850%. Here are some
coaching tips for how you can grow your company:

1. Follow Mrs. Fields Recipe for Success. Debbi Fields, founder
of Mrs. Fields Cookies, once said it was all about passion,
persistence, and perfection. Whether it's starting a non-profit
organization or a for-profit business, you're going to put a lot
of time and energy into it. Your focus has to be directed toward
something you are so passionate about doing - and doing well -
that nothing can deter you from success.

2. Develop a clear vision of where you want to go and a strategy
for getting there. Many entrepreneurs with great ideas fail
because they think their product or service should sell itself.
They work hard, but not smart. Your vision of where you want to
be a year, five years or even six months from now will guide your
day-to-day actions. Write it down then develop specific and
measurable steps for how you're going to achieve it.

3. Create a distinctive brand. There are thousands of
motivational speakers, meeting planners, and trainers marketing
their services. What distinguishes you from your competition?
Rather than try to be all things to all people, create a narrow
niche that identifies you as an "expert" in your field. Author
Barbara Stanny uses the tag line "The Leading Authority for
Women and Money." I use "Get and Keep the Job You Want." Make
your brand synonymous with your area of expertise.

4. Think and act BIG. When Jamie Foxx accepted the Academy Award
for the starring role in the movie Ray he thanked his grandmother
for teaching him to "act like you've been somewhere." Big is
relative. You may never aspire to be the biggest agency, but you
should act as if you already are. Doing so causes you to see
things and consider options you would otherwise overlook or think
impossible. When I started my business I put thousands of dollars
into marketing materials at a time when I could ill afford to do
so. But it made me look and feel competitive. I had to live up to
the "big" image I conveyed to potential clients and eventually
my firm became big.

5. Be a continual learner. Entrepreneurs become so involved in
day-to-day operations and challenges that they miss new trends or
information that could help them to remain competitive. Couple
that with the fact that women have additional family
responsibilities, and it seems as if there's never enough time
to stay current. Each week schedule a thirty minute meeting with
yourself where you read a professional journal or in other ways
spend time staying current in your field. It's the only way to
grow professionally along with those you serve.

6. Network, network, network. Not only will your network
connections help bring attention to your product or service, it
will provide you with connections that you need to run your
business efficiently and a stream of information to keep you
up-to-date in your industry.

7. Ask for help. One of the biggest mistakes a business owner can
make is thinking she has to go it alone. There's no need for you
to reinvent the wheel when there are people out there who have
been there, done that. Many cities have free services for small
business owners through the SBA and there are business coaches
who cater to entrepreneurs. (692)

How To Generate A FLOOD Of Free Website Traffic
Copyright (c) 2008 Willie Crawford
Willie Crawford Incorporated
http://WillieCrawford.com/ezine.html

When I look back on my 12 years of being "an Internet marketer"
one topic has earned me more money, and caused more online
marketers incredible frustration, than any other.

That topic is actually getting visitors to your website and
converting those visitors into customers.

The great fact is that without website visitors you really
AREN'T in business.

This whole traffic generation "thing" is incredibly simple
though. You just need to identify where a LOT of your ideal
customers are, and then you need to be highly visible there.

Your website visitors, and future customers, find you by
following links sprinkled across the web. So, the secret is to
get your links in all the right places.

Since time is the most limited resource that most of us have,
although some of us think that it's money, you have to do things
in the most efficient manner. You need to get the greatest ROI on
your time, and this is where a large percentage of marketers do
things wrong. They spend all of their time doing things that
produce very poor results.

The facts are:

1) Only a few search engines generate the majority of search
engine traffic. So if you can get prominent front-page listings
on those search engines you'll get your share of search engine
traffic. If you can get numerous top-10 listings on the top
search engines, your traffic from the search engines goes up
exponentially.

Imagine for a second owning the top 10 positions at Google for
your keyword. A random visitor searching on your keyword would
have a hard time NOT clicking on one of your links.

2) Only a few top video sharing sites get the majority of traffic
in most niches. That tells me that you need to focus on the top
20-30 sites when submitting videos.

3) Only a few top article sites generate lots of high quality
traffic. This has proven true for me, and for many of my friends
who generate six-figures per year JUST from "article
marketing."

4) The major search engines give "extra points" to news sites,
and things that they consider "news." That's why you'll often
see the news sites at the top of the listing for your keywords.

That's also why you absolutely MUST be submitting press releases
to those news sites.

Another reason is that your "clueless" competitors aren't
noticing that the press releases and news sites often show up
before the other search results.

The way to actually generate a flood of free, highly targeted,
website traffic is to submit a lot of articles, press releases,
videos, and podcasts to a lot of top-ranked sites. You want to
submit so many, that when someone searches on your keywords it
hard NOT to find an article, video, press release or MP3 podcast
that's YOURS.

In case you haven't noticed, when you do a search at Google, and
the other major search engines, the results are often a mixture
of all of the above media. Google no longer returns just static
html webpages in the organic search results. They know that
traffic to video sharing sites is growing faster than about
anywhere else, so they constantly crawl and index the video
sharing sites.

You had noticed that - hadn't you?

The secret is that you need to submit a lot of content to all of
these places in a high concentration. That's how you dominate
the search results.

However, it's almost impossible to do that by hand.

Even if all you did all day long was visit article directories,
or video submission sites, you could only submit to a few places
in a day. It's just too tedious, which is why I personally use
software to do it.

More correctly, I use an automated submission site.

I've used about 2-dozen different sites for submitting my
videos, podcasts, articles, and press releases in the past.
Today, I do 99% of my submissions through one site because it's
cheaper, more efficient, and gets us the "concentrated
firepower" that we need.

I use a site called "Easy Pushbutton Traffic." There are others
out there. However, none of the others allow me to submit all
four media (videos, audios, articles and press releases) in one
place.

I don't have the inclination to learn numerous different
interfaces, pay for numerous site memberships, and visit DOZENS
of sites. Remember, time is our most limited resource.

Prior to discovering Easy Push Button Traffic, I actually HIRED
people to submit my articles, videos, press releases, and
podcasts. I'd create a video for example, and then I'd pass it
to an assistant, and have him upload it to 20-30 sites (using an
automated submission service that was just too confusing for me
to figure out).

Today (as in this day), I'll submit several videos, several
articles, several press releases, and several audios. I'll do it
myself because I've set aside part of today just for doing that,
but also because it's become FUN creating and submitting
content, and then watching the increase in my search engine
rankings that often happen in just a few hours.

Anyway, the secret to an amazing amount of free website traffic
is "volume." You want to submit a lot of content in multiple
mediums (since different people prefer their information in
different formats) and it needs to be submitted in a high enough
"concentration" to break through the clutter.

Now that you've confirmed the secret, a secret that you already
knew intuitively, the only remaining question is "now what are
you going to do with the information?" If you want to start
seeing a lot of traffic, you'll take massive action TODAY, while
you competitors aren't paying attention.

articles. Recently he has added multi-media and more press
release to the mix, with very notable results. Willie now
loves, and highly recommends Easy Pushbutton Traffic at:

Seven Questions to the Deepest Level of the Subconscious

In the resolution of any problem it is always about the question
and if you cannot answer this question (What determines human
behavior?) you are guessing how to help someone with depression
which is the primary symptom for virtually all behavior
disorders. There are 7 questions that will lead you to a basic
understanding of how to take control of what controls you.

Question: 1 - Are you running your life?

Question: 2 - Do you know how the subconscious works?

Answer:

If you do not know how your subconscious works you are not
running your life your life is running you.

Question: 3 - How can the subconscious possibly be running my
life?

Answer:

To give you an idea of the power of the subconscious, you can
speak at a rate of about two to three hundred words per minute.
The subconscious runs at a rate of approximately one thousand to
twelve hundred words per minute which is about four times faster
than you can speak. This is why you can talk on the phone and
perform other tasks like typing on the computer or driving a car
because the subconscious is already programmed to do the other
tasks.

You can look at the conscious mind and the subconscious mind like
a tug of war with a vat of mud in the middle for whomever loses.
The conscious mind is one person on one side against the
subconscious, which are four people on the other side. If the
conscious mind decides to move in a different direction like
losing weight, increasing your fitness program, making more
money, quitting smoking or any number of other things, it is
usually a losing proposition because you are simply outnumbered
with information.

This is why it is so difficult to attain spontaneous change.
Evidence of this is with the approximately 98% fail rate for
people who do not maintain a desired weight loss. The dilemma is
that the subconscious is not only running four times faster you
also have no idea what it is doing.

Gaining Access to the Deepest Level of the Subconscious

Question: 4 - Do you ask yourself questions?

Answer:

Yes. You begin the process of asking yourself questions as soon
as you get up every morning. You ask yourself questions
like...What do I need to do today, what am I going to wear, what
calls or emails do I need to return?

Question: 5 - Does the subconscious work on questions when you
are not consciously involved?

Answer:

Yes. If you have ever asked yourself the question...What is that
person's name? It may take an hour, a day or even a week but at
a time when you are not even thinking about it the person's name
will come popping into your head. This is because the
subconscious was working on the question even when you were not
consciously involved. This process happens with every question
you ask yourself.

Question: 6 - When I ask you a question where does the answer
come from?

Answer:

The subconscious

When I ask you a question about questions that you ask yourself
you have now gained access to the deepest level of the
subconscious and the very beginning of what brings about an
emotional state and in turn determines your behavior.

The process happens like this. If I ask you where you went on
your last vacation, you repeat the question to yourself which
brings up a picture of where you went on vacation and then you
are able to explain to me where you went on vacation. Without
going through this process there simply would not be any
communication. The bottom line here is how you communicate with
yourself.

What you say to yourself is more important than anything anyone
will say to you or about you especially the questions you ask
yourself. The questions you ask yourself represent the very core
of your power or the very core your destruction. This leads us to
the most fundamental question of all.

Question: 7 - What determines human behavior?

Answer:

Information

What determines human behavior is simply information and the
components of this information are words and pictures. Getting
control of this information from the deepest level of the
subconscious will allow you to determine your emotional state
your behavior and your life's path. When you learn how to get
control of this information your life's path becomes
intentionally directed by you, instead of a random event.

Municipal Localities Using 311 Systems to Provide Better Service to Citizens
Copyright (c) 2008 Anne Sych

Ever need to locate a municipal service and not sure who to call?
Placing a call to City Hall can be a very confusing endeavor.
Many citizens, not knowing who to contact, inevitably call the
wrong number and are faced with the frustration of being
transferred around from department to department. This type of
inefficiency causes problems for both the citizen and the city
employee. The person with the question or problem ends up being
forced to retell their story, while overtaxed workers are drawn
into issues that are not at all related to their departments.
Worse yet, some frustrated citizens resort to calling the
emergency 911 system when all else fails...

All across the country, cities and counties are implementing
"311 Systems" for non emergency citizen requests. Like 911
systems, 311 call centers assist citizens inside their
jurisdictions and resolve issues through approved 'answers'
contained in the center's 'knowledge base' repository. If the
call involves a service that must be scheduled to a city/county
department, the 311 call center staff creates a 'ticket' and
assigns workflow tasks to the appropriate employees to provide an
action. The trend is toward integrated 311 call centers that
consolidate non-emergency service requests across all municipal
agencies in a city or county government. These systems go far
beyond the original vision of service request management to
providing streamlined call reporting. As a result some 311
systems handle calls for all municipal services, such as
scheduling inspections, obtaining building permits, locating
assessments, etc. In addition, 311 employees are trained to deal
with 911 emergency calls and can assist in case of large scale
emergencies.

For many localities, the original goal was modest: reduce the
volume of non emergency calls to 911 operators by establishing a
new 311 phone number. In the process, though, many localities
discovered the value of a single point of contact for the private
sector. Baltimore was the first city to install 311 in 1996.
Within two months, 42% of 911 calls went instead to 311, greatly
improving emergency-response times.

"311 has been a miracle. It has been a godsend for us," says Ed
Harris, emergency communications director for the Austin Police
Department, which launched its program a week after September 11.
"311 saved us not only from having our 911 system swamped but
saved our citizens who had true emergencies, such as heart
attacks and crimes in progress, from getting a busy signal."

Local Governments are reporting huge benefits. "A 311 system
changes the way a city [county] runs itself," says Jeffrey Ford,
professor at Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business,
who worked with one of his graduate classes to develop a 311 plan
for the City of Columbus, Ohio. "Cities become much more
performance-oriented and delivery-oriented. There is more
accountability, and it becomes very clear which departments or
divisions are not working well." The 311 system increases worker
productivity, reduce operating costs and helps the city leverage
its existing resources in dealing with quality of life issues.

A 311 system also speaks to the growing trend of "transparency
in government." Citizens like to be able to "reach out and
touch" their government. People simply want an answer to their
question, or to feel like someone cares enough to hear them out
and take action to resolve their problem. For citizens who are
willing to go the extra mile, some localities are even allowing
them the option to search for and find their own answers in an
on-line knowledge center tied to the city's website. In an age
where citizens are demanding access to information and local
governments are trying to reduce or re-route call volumes,
implementing a 311 system is a wise investment for any locality.

The Case of the Faltering Fax
Copyright (c) 2008 Rudy Vener
Pizza Galaxy
http://www.pizzagalaxy.com

Most of my clients get their online orders on their fax machine.

It is the simplest and most affordable option. You can get a good
quality machine for about $100 and it works over a plain old
telephone line.

But like any technology, a fax machine can develop problems, and
sometimes it takes a little detective work to figure them out.

Giulio's Pizza of North Haven began accepting online orders
through Pizza Galaxy in March 2007. For over a year everything
worked flawlessly. Giulio's kept their fax machine in good
condition, and Customers placed online orders which printed on
the fax machine without problem.

Then suddenly, in late July,, their fax stopped working.

While fax failures happen occasionally, they are normally pretty
easy to diagnose and fix. Someone has unplugged the fax machine
or left it turned off. In one case, an employee kicked the
telephone hand-set out of the cradle resulting in a constant busy
signal.

When this happens, we call the restaurant, give them the order by
voice and then ask them to check that the fax is turned on,
plugged in and operating properly.

Ninety nine times out of a hundred that's all it takes. But
Giulio's was definitely a one in a hundred case.

At their end everything looked fine. The fax was running, it
would answer the phone and would go into receive mode. But
invariably, the fax did not go through. Very odd.

Luckily, Giulio's is one of our closest clients and Gina and I
decided to pay them a house call. Even more luckily, Giulio's
has WIFI so we were able to bring along a notebook PC that let us
place test orders at the shop.

One of the things we tell restaurant owners is to set their fax
machines to answer on the first or second ring.

Fax machines often default to answer on the sixth ring. That is
much too long a delay. The automatic fax system which transmits
the order can decide there is no answer and gives up. I knew this
wasn't the case because we had already tested Giulio's fax and
found that it answered on the second or third ring.

At the restaurant we checked out the fax. It was connected
properly, and had plenty of ink and paper. It appeared to b in
the correct mode for receiving faxes and nothing seemed obviously
wrong.

We used the notebook PC to place a test order.

That's when the fun began.

As we watched, the fax machine answered the call, went into
Receive mode and began to receive the fax. So far so good. Then
the machine suddenly stopped. The fax machine ended the call and
went back to sleep. Uh oh.

Pizza galaxy's online ordering system automatically retries the
fax in case of failure, so for the next few minutes we watched
the above cycle repeat itself over and over again with nothing
being printed.

At this point I decided it was time to power cycle the fax
machine. That's when we discovered there was no on/off switch.
There was also no way to reach the outlet to unplug the machine.

Sal, the owner crawled under the counter to reach the well hidden
outlet. I don't think he trusted us not to unplug his dough
mixer, but I could be wrong.

In any case, turning the machine off and on again did the trick.
The next fax retry came through. Giulio's Pizza's fax machine
is working again, online ordering has been re-activated and all
is well.

Plus we now have a new procedure to use when troubleshooting
faulty faxes.

Here are a few tips for ensuring your online ordering won't be
the victim of fax failure:

1. Keep it clean.

The kitchen is a tough environment for fax machines. I know of at
least one fax machine that died because it got contaminated with
flour. Make sure your fax is safe from excessive heat, spills and
airborne contaminants such as flour and hot oil spatter.

2. Set the fax to answer quickly

Some fax machines have default answer delays of six rings or
more. This delay is supposed to let the owner pick up and answer
by voice before the fax machine answers. This is not a good
strategy in the restaurant since it adds needless delay. In some
cases, the order sending system may quit and retry if the fax
machine does not answer quickly enough.

3. Use a dedicated fax phone line.

Don't mix voice answering and fax machine calls. If a human
voice answers it means the fax will have to be retried and just
wastes everyone's time.

4. Make sure your fax machine is on.

You think I'm kidding? I've lost count of the number of new
clients who forget to turn on their fax machines or forgot to
train their staff to do so.

5. Keep spare ink and paper on hand.

One client had to de-activate online ordering because his fax
machine ran out of toner and he didn't have any spares.
Naturally this happened during the evening rush.

6. Location, Location, Location

Put your fax where staff members can hear it, see it and easily
access the order the moment it arrives. These orders are just as
important as the ones that come in by phone. Someone is going to
want their food in a half hour whether they stop by for it or ask
you to deliver. We were forced to shut down one online ordering
system when the owner revealed that the fax machine was in a back
office. And no, I am NOT going to name names.

7. Quality Counts

Don't be tempted to get a cheap machine from Vendor X. Go with a
solid, high quality fax machine that will stand up to the rigors
of daily use in your restaurant.

When your restaurant gets significant orders by fax it pays to
keep your machine in good working order. A small amount of
planning and preparation can mean years of reliable service from
your online ordering system as it sends order after order to your
fax.

Dietary Supplements Must Be Tested by Scientifically Valid Methods

Are you a Dietary Supplement manufacturer trying to figure out
what FDA means by "Scientifically Valid Method"? Here are some
hints.

Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994
(DSHEA), the dietary supplement manufacturer is responsible for
ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed.
FDA is responsible for taking action. As such, FDA's Department
of Health and Human Services recently rolled out new dietary
supplement regulations. The 815-page document, titled "Current
Good Manufacturing Practice in Manufacturing, Packaging,
Labeling, or Holding Operations for Dietary Supplements",
reflects the final ruling on the subject.

In short, this ruling establishes the good manufacturing practice
for dietary supplements, outlining the minimum standards
necessary for activities related to manufacturing, packaging,
labeling, or holding dietary supplements to ensure the quality of
said dietary supplement.

According to the ruling, testing methods must be scientifically
valid. The ruling proposes that tests must include at least one
of the following: (1) Gross organoleptic analysis, (2)
microscopic analysis, (3) chemical analysis, or (4) other
appropriate test. (The requirement that methods be scientifically
valid applies to all the tests and examinations manufacturers
use, rather than to quantitative tests alone, thus the term
''analytical'' is not used.)

While the proposed definition of ''appropriate test'' (i.e.,
''a scientifically valid method'') mandates specific methods,
some manufacturers are concerned because valid test methods are
not always available for testing dietary ingredients or dietary
supplements.

In response to that concern, the ruling states: ''If an AOAC or
FDA method is not available, a scientifically valid analytical
method is one that is based on scientific data or results
published in, for example, scientific journals, references, text
books, or proprietary research...We recognize that certain tests
for identity, purity, quality, strength, or composition for
certain finished product may not be available due to complex
finished matrices that would make such testing impracticable."

In addition, manufacturers may exempt a product specification
from the verification requirements if they show that: (1) The
specifications selected to verify that the product meets all
product specifications are not able to verify that the control
system is producing a dietary supplement that meets the exempted
product specification and (2) there is no scientifically valid
method for testing or examining the exempted product
specification at the finished batch stage.

Beyond this ruling, FDA's post-marketing responsibilities
include monitoring safety, e.g. voluntary dietary supplement
adverse event reporting, and product information, such as
labeling, claims, package inserts, and accompanying literature.

Negative Versus Positive Marketing Messages: Which Works Best?
Copyright (c) 2008 Judy Murdoch
Highly Contagious Marketing
http://www.judymurdoch.com/workbook.htm

Nancy is a small business owner who helps nonprofit groups create
fund raising events that can double- even triple- their average
donation.

Until recently, Nancy has gotten her business primarily through
in-person meetings: attending networking events, taking people
out for coffee, and giving presentations.

In-person is great for getting local business but Nancy wants to
serve a national customer base. So she hired someone to design a
website and using emails and postcards to market her services.

She's been using emails and postcards for the last ten months
and the results have been dismal.

"I haven't gotten a single new client," she told me.

So I took a look at the emails she was sending out and I
immediately saw the problem.

>> Enthusiasm Can Turn People Off

Nancy loves her work and really wants her clients to succeed.
It's hard to spend time with her and not get excited about what
she's doing.

Her enthusiasm works to her advantage when she meets people in
person.

It seems logical then that enthusiasm would work in all her other
marketing. Wrong.

>> Establishing Trust is the First Step

There's a saying, "People want to know you care, before they
care about what you know."

As human beings, we have a natural desire to belong and feel
valued. It's the reason why people hate to be sold to...we
don't feel understood or valued for who we are.

When you meet someone in person, it's a lot easier to build
trust because you can communicate that you care in many ways: in
your tone of voice, in the way you look at others, in your
gestures.

For people like Nancy, building trust occurs almost immediately
during in person meetings because she communicates that she cares
both in what she says and what she doesn't say.

But when communicating in less personal ways—using email,
postcards, and other types of written media, you have only words
to work with.

Which means you must take an extra step and deliberately
demonstrate empathy before you enthusiastically share why your
products and services are so wonderful.

>> Establishing Trust Means Starting with the Negative

So how do you show you care when you use email, web pages, and
other mediums that limit your ability to express yourself?

You start with the problem or pain your customer is likely
experiencing.

When you do this you are saying, in effect to your audience:

"I understand you have this problem that you're struggling to
solve."

"I, too, have struggled with it"

"Through my experience, education, research, etc., I have came
up with a solution to solve the problem."

"My solution work for you too."

Once you say these things, you are free to bubble away about your
wonderful solution.

>> Example: Establishing Trust First

So let's go back to Nancy.

Instead of immediately starting her emails off with how she helps
her clients double their fund raising results she begins with
demonstrating empathy and understanding.

Before:

"Non-profits, let me show you how to double- , even triple your
donations."

After:

"Non-profits, are you struggling to compete for funding in
today's difficult economy?"

Can you feel the difference?

Nancy's email then went on to describe her own struggles with
fund raising and how she developed her solution.

When Nancy began using this approach, her prospect inquiries
immediately increased and she's now in the process of turning
some of the prospects into clients.

But she first needed to demonstrate she understood and cared
before they were willing to make the call.

>> Bottom Line

The less personal the communication, the more important it
becomes to first establish trust with your prospects.

For emails, blog posts, web pages, etc.:

1. Start with the Negative: demonstrate you understand their
problem and struggle to solve it.

2. End with the Positive: share why your solution is better and
will work.

How to Write a Lead-Generating White Paper for a Medical Device
Copyright (c) 2008 Alec Alpert
http://www.alecalpert.com/

Unlike other products, a medical device presents special
challenges to a white paper writer. For example, writing methods
that effectively sell DVD players are ineffective for selling MRI
machines to hospitals. Why? Because a medical device directly
interacts with human bodies, and therefore gives rise to risks of
injury. Actually, the main concern of medical device
manufacturers is to mitigate the risks to patients or users while
delivering the maximum benefits. All medical device manufacturers
are required to comply with the medical device regulations that
ensure safety and efficacy of devices. Hence, when writing for
the medical technology industry, a writer enters a highly
regulated world where even marketing collateral tends to be
written in an academic style.

This means that to write a successful medical device white paper,
a writer needs not only good writing and marketing skills, but
also a thorough knowledge of engineering and the regulatory
environment. A writer should be able to grasp the complex science
and technology behind the device, and translate them into
persuasive writing without any hype. The paper must appeal to the
logical mind of scientific readers, not so much to their
emotions, which is the opposite of methods used to sell consumer
goods.

A lead generation white paper for a medical device is a hybrid
between an educational essay and a sales brochure. It educates
and gracefully sells at the same time. The writing process starts
with determining the topic, the released device, or the
scientific principles and technology used (or to be used) in the
device.

The next step is to identify the ideal target reader. This is
crucial. The writer must clearly see who the paper's audience
will be. A medical device paper is usually written for a diverse
audience of professors, doctors, medical physicists, scientists,
technologists, hospital administrators and regulatory agencies.
Knowing the audience sets the paper's level of sophistication,
scope, tone, structure and vocabulary.

In the case of a medical device, a white paper usually talks to
two predominant groups. One includes readers with a scientific
mind who are mainly interested in the device's features and an
in-depth analysis of its technology, often at the atomic level.
The other group comprises administrators looking to grasp a
device's business benefits and see how it can save labor, cut
costs and improve regulatory compliance. Hence, a writer is
challenged to strike a balance between discussing a device's
benefits and features. In fact, it is not unusual for a writer to
be pulled in opposite directions by a device's manufacturer;
engineers and scientists want a technical paper, but marketing
managers want a sales document. It's vital to get the balance
right.

So how is a writer to successfully resolve this dilemma? A good
starting point is to prepare an outline of the paper and discuss
and approve it with the manufacturer. The writer, however, should
advise these people that a lead-generating paper needs to focus
on a device's benefits, rather than just its features, or how
great the company is. The outline will establish the paper's
direction, focus and final destination before the writing even
begins.

Once the outline is approved, the next step is to interview
subject matter experts who have an intimate knowledge of the
topic. They are the design engineers, scientists and other
professionals working for the medical device manufacturer. Nobody
knows the device better than the people who designed and made it.
For this reason, a writer must take these interviews seriously
and allocate sufficient time for them. He has to polish his
interviewing skills and prepare for the interviews well in
advance.

Besides interviewing, a writer should also access the relevant
product documentation. The law requires all medical device
manufacturers to maintain a Design History File, which contains
product development documents, such as product specifications,
drawings, validations, operator manuals, and so on. Many
questions also can be answered by simply searching the Internet.
And, of course, a library or bookstore also provides valuable
information.

What is a white paper's structure? It naturally begins with the
title which is a crucial part of the paper. This can make or
break the paper, and must be relevant, compelling, and engaging,
enticing the readers to read further. It should be simple and
focus on the benefits that the device delivers.

Then comes the first page, which sets the stage. The remainder of
the paper evolves from the first paragraphs. The paper can be
only as good as its first page. Readers will continue reading
only if the first page convinces them to do so.

The rest of the paper is divided into manageable sections. As
with any writing, the process is repetitive: writing drafts,
refining, editing, and re-editing many times until the paper is
nearly perfect. The writer must stay focused on appealing to the
target audience, and strike the right balance between the
benefits and features.

Sentences and paragraphs have to be concise, with wide margins
around the page. Bullets and headlines should be used generously,
instead of long passages of uninterrupted text. The paper needs
to be laid out so that a reader can quickly grasp the gist of it
just by scanning the sub-headlines.

The end of a white paper is a call to action, which asks readers
to contact the manufacturer for a meeting, demonstration,
evaluation, analysis, discussion or some sort of next step(s).

A lead generation white paper is typically 5 to 12 pages long,
and mostly comprises text with minimal graphics.

"Hey, It's a Bird, It's a Plane - No, It's Twitter"

By Merle http://www.PayPerClickResearch.com

What's one of the most popular social activities
on-line lately? If you said "Twittering", give
yourself a gold star for paying attention. Twitter
is a communication and networking tool that's huge
with many Internet Marketers, and growing quickly.
It's everywhere, and everyone is talking about it.

So what is Twitter and why should you care? It's
very similar to instant messaging. You set up a
profile, people can choose to "follow you", and
you can choose to follow others. You send short
text messages to your "followers", called "tweets".
The messages are short, no longer then 140 characters
and are centered around the theme, "What are you
doing now?" With such a small space you'll have
to learn to be very creative.

So what's the benefit of having people "follow"
you around? Well, you can use Twitter to keep
in touch with your customers, use it for branding
purposes, send out links to your latest blog posts,
tell folks about anything that may be new with
your company or website, or offer special discounts
or sales on your products/services. You can even
tap into your follower's mind by asking them
questions, or sending them links to on-line surveys.
The possibilities are really endless. Think of it
as a two-way communication channel between you
and your customers (followers).

When it comes to your posts, you want to keep
the tone friendly and informal. Don't annoy
people by sending out too many messages too
often. Make sure whatever you send is useful
or informative. Don't send too many self-serving
messages or your followers will unsubscribe as
quickly as they subscribed.

When you register at Twitter and start to follow
people, you can elect to receive messages via
your cell phone as a text message, through
your instant messaging account, or you can
just log into Twitter to view all your messages.
You can also receive notifications via email.
You can set individual notification preferences
for each person you choose to follow. If you
choose to receive text messages on your cell
phone, remember you'll be charged per your
cell phone plan for each incoming message.

Be careful when choosing a username, as it
will become part of your url, which looks
like this "http://twitter.com/username"
If you're a company, you may want to use
your business name to help in your branding
efforts. You can also upload your company
logo, or a picture of yourself and write a
one line bio with your url. Again, it's a
small space so be creative.

So with Twitter being all the rage these days,
plenty of add on applications have sprung up
to extend Twitter's usefulness. Let's review
some of your options:

1) http://www.twitter.com/downloads

Numerous tools to download for other ways
to send and receive Twitter updates.

2) http://www.TwitterFeed.com

Takes your blog posts and sends them to
your "followers" automatically.

3) http://www.TwitThis.com

Add to your webpage or blog to allow others
to send your url to their Twitter followers.

4) http://www.VisualTwitter.com

A place to share your cell phone photos.

5) http://www.TweetGift.com

Send gifts to your friends.

6) http://www.LoudTwitter.com

Archive your "tweets" on your Blog.

7) http://www.Twitteroo.com

Send Twitter tweets from your PC.

8) http://www.TwitPic.com

Share photos on Twitter. Post with your
cell phone or through the site itself.

9) http://www.TweetCube.com

Share files on Twitter, including images,
videos, music and more.

Taking this all into consideration, I'm sure
you can see how Twitter could be very useful
when it comes to marketing your Internet business.
If not, at the very least it's a lot of fun. So
what are you waiting for? Get out there and start
"tweeting".

You may not be aware but people come in contact with hundreds
even thousands of toxins just in every day life. You eat them,
touch them, and even breathe them in. They are everywhere and
many of them end up stored in our bodies. They are actually
unable to be processed through the body because there is not
enough of the nutrients and often times even enough water in the
body in order to be processed and removed.

In these cases the body wraps to toxins and stores it in
surprisingly fat and other tissue. As these toxins build you
become more fatigued, you may find that you have muscle pains and
aches, muscles will become tired faster and you will have a
general lack of energy. This means that there is some fat on most
people that is strictly there to protect your body from the
toxins it was unable to remove.

This is where a full body detox comes in. These toxins and the
lack of proper nutrients within the body can lead to a number of
serious health problems. A full body detox can be the answer to
feeling better as well as help you to lose weight. There are a
couple of different ways that you can do a full body detox. The
first thing to remember about these is that they are designed to
cover the entire body. When looking into full body detox programs
you are going to want a program that is going to last for a
period of time. You want to remove the toxins slowly from your
body. Full body detox programs that attempt to move toxins
through the body quickly can actually be quite unpleasant and
cause their own set of problems.

In order to make a full body detox work for your benefit and not
send you to the facilities or send you to bed feeling sick you
need to prepare your body and make sure that you have a full body
detox that will work at a pace that will let your body recover
its own flow. Nutrients are essential during a full body detox.
You are going to want to make sure that you have more than just a
multi-vitamin. There are a number of nutrients that aid the body
in doing a detox. These can be purchase separately at any health
food or nutritional supply store.

You should start taking these before you begin the full body
detox in order to help build up what you are going to need in
your body once you start the full body detox. Next, make sure to
wean yourself off junk food, caffeine and sodas. You may also
want to work on any other habits just as tobacco use and cut back
on any medications that are not seen as medically necessary. You
may also want to increase the amount of water you drink.

You will want to look for a full body detox program that teaches
meditation, deep breathing and techniques such as skin brushing
as these are all elements of a full body detox.

Buying Profitable Expired Domain Names-Part II
Copyright (c) 2008 John Khu
Expired Domain Secret
http://www.expireddomainsecret.com

Buying an expired domain is an intricate and cumbersome process,
when you do not know the fundamentals and techniques of expired
domain name industry. Buying a domain expired domain name is a
busy activity, when you apply your mind and intelligence to
choose and later buy the most profitable domain name. However,
understanding the intricate process and various options involved
with registering an expired domain name could also be a confusing
and misleading task. This little article will provide you the
most basic and fundamental steps and procedures required while
searching for a good expired domain name.

Before you buy an expired domain name, you will need to learn and
understand the normal and usual expired domain expiration process
for dot com and dot net type of web domains. Every domain
expiring undergoes a series of steps eventually culminating in
the final expiration. Here are a few of the mandatory expiration
steps:

I Phase: You can register a domain for a period of one to ten
years, during which you can have an unrestricted and privileged
usage. To retain the privilege of using your domain, you will
need to renew the subscription before the due date. This stage is
the active phase of the domain cycle.

II Phase: Many times, the owner of the domain may fail to renew
the domain name, because of some compelling reasons. At the end
of the renewal period, a particular expired domain name will
enter a phase known as On-Hold phase, when the owner will need to
pay the renewal fees to the registrar to retain the ownership of
the name. The normal time duration for this phase is about 1 to
45 days. This is the grace time period, during which the owner of
a domain name can continue to use the domain after paying the
required fees.

III Phase: If the owner does not renew the domain even after 45
days, the domain will enter a phase called Redemption phase. This
phase lasts for about 30 days, during which the owner can pay a
fee called redemption penalty fee to renew the domain name. The
suggested fees may range from $100 to $200. During this phase,
the owner can still have the opportunity to get back the domain.

IV Phase: Once the 30-day redemption period comes to an end, and
still the owner does not renew the domain name, then the domain
enters another phase known as Pending Delete phase, which usually
lasts for 5 days pending delete period. With this stage, the
domain may become out of reach to the owner and domain will be
open for sale and subsequent registration on the six day from the
date of pending delete phase.

Expired domains are the part of a dynamic and energetic industry.
Dropping domains are becoming common everyday and the process of
deletion of an expired domain changes often with the intervention
of major registrars with the help of ICAAN. If you understand the
process of deletion and expiry of an expired domain, then you
would have taken the first sure steps towards your journey to
online riches.

Top Six Internal Linking Tactics To Get Top Google Rankings
Copyright (c) 2008 Jason OConnor
Oak Web Works, LLC
http://www.oakwebworks.com/

If you own or run a website and are not following these six
tactics for properly linking your website together then you're
losing Google traffic as you read this. First some definitions.
Internal linking is the links on your website that point to other
pages within your same website. External linking is when you link
to another website. Tactics are specific things to do to achieve
desired results, or any mode of procedure for gaining advantage
or success.

There are things you can do when developing or refining your
internal linking structure. If you carry out the following
tactics, you're going to achieve two things. One, you'll make
your website better from a user's perspective. Two, you'll rank
better in Google. And it's no coincidence that Google rewards
you for doing things that make the website user's experience
easier and better. In fact, the most important thing I can
recommend is that you create, design and link your website
together is a way that benefits the visitor first. Your visitors
are most important, not Google rankings.

One last thing before I get to the tactics. Have you heard that
links from other websites that point back to your website is
essential in getting top search engine rankings, especially with
Google? It's true. These links vary in their effectiveness and
value depending on the website from which they're coming. But
did you also know that internal links often can have similar
effectiveness and value as external links? So bear this in mind
as you read on.

1) Add links in your navigation or footer as text links to all
your important pages and main sections.

This is a very easy and an extremely effective tactic that not
all sites do, and even less do for maximum results. This is the
first thing I look for when reviewing a website for a client.
Unfortunately, sometimes artsy Web designers add cool buttons,
which are images, to all the main sections of the site, but
neglect to include text links as well. Or a programmer decides to
make the website's navigation a dynamic drop down menu in DHTML
or JavaScript but forget to include text links to the same pages
represented in the menus. Search engines cannot follow image
links or links created in JavaScript, they can only follow simple
text links, so be sure you add them to your site as well.

So if you want search engines to visit and index (or record) ALL
your website's pages, be sure there are text links pointing to
all the main sections of your site and to all your important
pages.

2) Make use of the rel="nofollow" HTML tag.

This is fairly simple. Google created this tag which tells them
NOT to count the link in their search engine ranking algorithm
when used on a link. There's debate that maybe Google does count
them a little, or will some day in the future. But for now, this
tag does greatly decrease a link's value in Google's eyes.
Therefore, consider using this tag on some of your links within
your site. For example, let's say you have a homepage and then
create two inner pages, and that's the extent of the site.
Let's further say that you add a link to both pages on your
homepage. If your homepage has some external links pointing to
it, then it has some value in regards to Google's ranking
system. When you link to each of your two new pages within your
site from your homepage, each page gets only 50% of the value the
homepage has. (This is all measured in Page Rank). Let's then
say that your first inner page is the one you want to rank well
in the Google, but you don't care if your second inner page even
gets found by Google or ranked. You could add the nofollow tag to
the second link on your homepage, thereby giving the first inner
page 100% of the homepage's value.

Think of the implications. Imagine if you had a website with
hundreds or thousands of pages and used the nofollow tag
throughout. To understand how to implement this tag is, see the
two links in HTML below, one without it and one with it correctly
included.

<a href="http://www.yourwebsite.com">Your Website</a>

<a href="http://www.yourwebsite.com" rel="nofollow">Your
Website</a>

Finally, if you have pages such as a privacy page, terms page,
checkout pages or contact pages that you don't care if they rank
well in Google, be sure to use the nofollow tag when creating
internal links to these pages.

3) Use descriptive and different phrases to point to the same
inner page

The words that are in the text of a link (also known as the
anchor text) affect your search engine rankings. For example, the
anchor text in the two links above is "Your Website". If enough
of these links that were on quality and valuable sites, including
your own website's inner pages, pointed to the same page, it
would eventually rank well in Google when someone searches for
the phrase "your website".

Therefore, be sure to make the anchor text in all your internal
links the phrases you want the pages to be found for in Google.
If you have a page that sells "blue widgets", make the anchor
text in links on other pages within your website that point to
this page "blue widgets". Do it like this:

<a href="http://www.yourwebsite.com/blue-widgets.htm">Blue
Widgets</a>

Going back to the number 1 tactic above, you would be far better
off making the anchor text in all your footer links as
descriptive as possible. If you want to rank well in Google for
"affordable blue widgets" then use this in your links that
point to this page:

<a
href="http://www.yourwebsite.com/blue-widgets.htm">Afforadable
Blue Widgets</a>

Finally, vary your anchor text when pointing to the same page
within your website. For instance, on some of your pages you
could link to your Blue Widgets page with the anchor text of
"blue widgets", then on other pages link to it using
"affordable blue widgets" and then maybe use "widgets that are
blue". This allows you to get the page ranked for multiple terms
and helps the user since you're being descriptive and making
your anchor text better match the content of the page it's on.

4) Make links in your content

If you have text on your site, make some of the words within the
text links that point to other pages within your website. For
instance, if you have an article about blue widgets, or a page
that describes how great your blue widgets are, make the first or
second occurrence of the phrase "blue widgets" in the text a
link that points to your Blue Widgets page.

5) The Home link solution

If your website is typical, you'll probably have a link on every
page that points back to your homepage. And you should because
this helps users. By doing this, you're supplying a lot of link
value to the homepage since it is getting all these internal
links pointing back to it. Since in the number three tactic I
recommended that you make your anchor text the same as what you
want to rank for, the word "home" does you no good. I'll
assume that you're not trying to get your homepage ranked for
the word "home", so make the anchor text what you do want it to
get ranked for.

The other option is to add the nofollow tag to all your 'Home'
links, thereby canceling out the word "home" altogether.

6) Make important pages at most 2 folders deep with your site and
at most two clicks away from your homepage.

The farther away a page is, the worse it ranks. So if you put a
page in a folder that is five folders deep within your website
folder structure, Google will likely consider that page not as
important as a page only one folder deep. Also, make the pages in
your website that are most important to get ranked two or less
clicks away from the homepage. This is good for users and allows
Google to index these pages more quickly.

By following these top six internal linking tactics, you'll be
far ahead of the competition, you'll rank better in Google and
you'll be making your website visitors' lives easier.

Negative Versus Positive Marketing Messages: Which Works Best?
Copyright (c) 2008 Judy Murdoch
Highly Contagious Marketing
http://www.judymurdoch.com/workbook.htm

Nancy is a small business owner who helps nonprofit groups create
fund raising events that can double- even triple- their average
donation.

Until recently, Nancy has gotten her business primarily through
in-person meetings: attending networking events, taking people
out for coffee, and giving presentations. In-person is great for
getting local business but Nancy wants to serve a national
customer base. So she hired someone to design a website and using
emails and postcards to market her services.

She's been using emails and postcards for the last ten months
and the results have been dismal.

"I haven't gotten a single new client," she told me. So I took
a look at the emails she was sending out and I immediately saw
the problem.

But when
communicating in less personal ways--using email, postcards, and
other types of written media, you have only words to work with.

Instead of immediately starting her
emails off with how she helps her clients double their fund
raising results she begins with demonstrating empathy and
understanding.

When Nancy began
using this approach, her prospect inquiries immediately increased
and she's now in the process of turning some of the prospects
into clients.

2. End with the Positive: share why your solution is better and
will work

Got "Marketing Paralysis"? Try This...

Many of us put off creating or overhauling our marketing
materials until we have "time." But with all the
responsibilities we have, who on earth has time? In my experience,
the time excuse is very often a smokescreen, covering the fears
hidden underneath.

And what of these fears? Well let's face it. When you're selling
yourself, there's something scary about putting yourself "out
there" and putting yourself "out there" in a tangible real piece
of marketing, does seem to make it somewhat final. We worry
about being misunderstood.

We worry about not living up to other people's expectations. We
worry about "getting it wrong". We worry about offending people.
We worry about appearing over confident. We worry about making
claims that we can't live up to. It's no wonder we can't find
the time. Who would want to find the time to when there are so
many ways of getting it wrong?

In spite of the fact that those fears exist and they're getting
in the way, we really just have to thumb our noses at them. You
simply have to say to yourself, "Yes, those fears may be there,
but I'm going to create my marketing materials in spite of them."

My favourite method for blasting through these fears is a
technique I call the "anti-brochure". Before we go any further I
want you to grab a pen, and a sheet of paper and at the top
write, "The reasons you SHOULDN'T become my client". Now as
quickly as possible, write down all the reasons why someone
shouldn't hire you.

Don't worry, we won't be publicizing these, what we are aiming
to do is to get these sentences out of your head where they can
cripple your creative process and onto the page where they lose
a great deal of their power.

Here are some examples that have come out of this exercise:

"I'm not good enough."

"I tell a good story, but I don't walk my talk."

"If I'm so great why is my own life in such a mess?"

"If people knew what I was really like they wouldn't want to
hire me."

"I'm afraid I won't live up to their expectations."

"The only reason I have any clients is because I fooled them
all."

I love this technique for blasting away the doubts and fears
that will otherwise really interfere with your creative process.
Once you've got the words out and onto the page, they become a
lot less effective at holding you back. Last year I ran a course
with a partner, and we sat down and did this exercise together
before writing the brochure.

We titled it, "The reasons you shouldn't book onto this course".
We each spent 5-10 minutes filling a sheet with our insecurities
and fears and when we were done, we compared notes, then threw
the lists away. That's it. That's all you need to do. Don't
agonize over what you've written. Just write it, read it through
and throw it away.

Some people like a ritual burning, but to be perfectly honest I
think that's affording too much significance to what just
amounts to a bunch of false fears. Just screw up the paper and
toss it in the wastepaper basket. Try this. It really works.
