Yeah, the list is still broke. It went down Friday morning. I'm hoping it
will be back online sometime Monday.

Sorry for the delays... Hang in there ;)

FLY-UL@... broke. The "Yahoo" list is still running,
although its been inactive. Personally, it wouldnt bother me if we just
moved the list here and be done with it, but some peope just dont want to
do that for some reason.

HAHAHA, good one.. Gee, we'll have to break the list more often. Wouldn't
it be funny if there's an outbreak of pregnancies in 9 months, due to the
list being broke.. ;)

It does have a lot of nice features. The club I belong to has a group

the chat feature. Messenger is a cool way to track your friends and even
has the talk option as well. I sure like it.

Yah I know. I'm also on a bunch of Yahoo lists, and run a few there as
well. I personally thinks its ok, and dont even mind the advertising (small
price to pay for free list). I like using Hughes, the price is right, and
its been fairly reliable, *but*, I'm at their mercy. They'll fix it when
they fix it ya know what I mean? I also do like some of the features I as
list owner have with majordomo... features that I dont have with yahoo.
These are features that allow me to control spam, and other objectionable
things from being sent to the list.

Well, if the list isn't back online sometime Monday, I'll strongly suggest
we move here permanently instead.

Thanks Les, I love that digital camera :) If you push the button enough
times you're sure to get at least ONE decent shot! I even convinced Mr.
Comperini to pry a couple bux out of his wallet and buy one... haven't
seen too many photos from him though. The guy spends all his time aloft
TEACHING instead of shooting pix.

Hughes.net has been great about providing space for the list without any
$$$ in exchange, but they have an ISP to run so if the list goes down we
have to wait 'till they service their paying customers before they open
the box and see what's wrong with the Major. I have no problem with
moving the list to Yahoo or anywhere else, as long as we can keep our
friendly patter going.

Subject: Big Day of Flying
mark@...
Send Email Send Email

I rather enjoy some of the exploits of the list memebers and thought I
would share my day

It started on the downside a bit since I had installed an ultraleter on
a new MXL II and the gauge was really acting up.

I make these gauges, a combinayion digital tach and CHT.

It was a bit windy and quite chanheable from the south to the north but
mainly from the east, a direction we rarely get much wind from.

The new plane was run a bit on saturday after a minor piston problem but
fired on the first pull after the fix. Running strong and solid, it was
ready for a flying break-in and no gauge.

I still had plain water in the system as that is my pratice to minimize
the sticky mess left by antifreeze if there is a leak in the radiator or
the engine.

I solder the fittings in a standard automotive radiator to save a bunch
of money and also provide adequate cooling at all operating conditions.

I took the gauge home saturday night, tested it and the new water
sending unit I had made, and it worked perfectly on the test bench.

Reinstalled, it still made funny jumpos and didn't work at all untill
about 3500 RPM.

I then changed to the alternator leads rather than the grey and ground,
and the meter perked up and ran very well.

having a digital water temp was a new pleasure.

I flew the plane off and on all morning, stopping only to visit the
local parts store for some orange capped antifreeze. This stuff is
silicate free and better on the rotary valve shaft and seals.

Around noon, I cooked some taer tots and a steak. Still no company even
though it was a fairly nice day. The local RC club was away having a
meet in Evansville, so my RC runway was fairly deserted after a couple
morning flyers went home.

I changed to the orange stuff, checked for leaks, and went up again,
slowly increasing the full throttle times and climb angles.

By increasing the climb angle, the load on the prop is changed
significantly, making the break-in process very controllable.

Tied to a stic as I say, the load is higher than when flying, and the
temps and break-in proceed at a much hotter temperature.

The gauge was functioning perfectly, with water temps ranging from 125
on a long fast glide to 144 or so on a steep sustained climb.

Neat.

A Harley pulled in with a guy and a girl, didn't recognize him, and he
said he had a PPC and wanted to bring it over and fly.

I said no problem and he departed as I took off again.

Activity picked up with the approach of a GT 400 just recently N
numbered by the CFI owner/pilot. He had an MX for many years, enjoying
the slow flight regime for fun and the twins for pay.

The GT had been extensively rebuiolt over the last winter. He added
double battens, ellectric flaps, a new wiring system, strobe, and
several small enhancements. The DAR cost was 400 bucks BTW and he almost
threw the man out when he realized he of of no real value to the safety
of the plane, just a rather large cost.

But the plane was flying flawlessly after losing the whole fan assembly
a few months ago due to a cracked fan blade. He was wanting to practise
some flap landings at my grass strip rather than the full power landings
at his home strip of 5000 thousand feet of runway.

He made several landings and then departed to investigate a couple new
strips north of here.

The chute guy was back with his big diesel pickup and enclosed PPC
trailer, a reallly nice rig.

He started unloading, and I made another flight.

Several vistors had shown up, so I made a parts run ti the house for a
few misc items. I keep some small parts at the house out of the dust of
the sirport.

Arriving back at my airport, another PPC had flown in from the strip
north of me.

I departed for this strip after fuelling a bit, and passed the 400 and a
local GT 500 heading back south to my strip.

Landing at the northern strip, a recently recovered MXL was just landing
from its first flight of the year with the new sails. Fatser and much
tighter was the word, and he really liked the shortened ailerons too.

I checked an old MX II that is getting a 582 and ailerons out. The trike
portion was already on the new Hegar wheels, waiting for seat tanks and
the engine.

The PPC owner had flown up to this strip too and was circling the nearby
homes low, and even though his brother lives in one of the houses, he
likely was irritating the other nearby homeowners.

I departed to the south, taking off very low and staying weel away from
the homes. My plane was also red white and blue, and I didn't want to
even look like the antagonizing PPC with whom I shared these same
colors.

Landing back at my strip, I had to thread my way through a varied mix of
planes from the area, many out for the first time that day.

I rented my MXL to a first time this year flyer. He has flown the MX,
and a Sprint, and really liked the crisp handling of the gearboxed MXL.
Even with the original single batten sail, itm has graet handling. It is
tight and with the short ailerons, flies very well.

The twoo PPC's were playing tag, the other planes avoiding them on the
diagonal runway.

All in all, made 45 dollars too, enough to fill the gas cans and get
change. It was a good day,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah, I finally got back into the air.

Took the Cherokee down to TSA. While there got the second flight on
newly recommissioned 097 (1-26). We just got it 337'ed and annualled on
Saturday, after having been down for wings recover since September.

It was also my first day of flying since about that time. I had hip
replacement surgery in January, and the concern was whether I'd be able
to get in and out of the plane. Yes I can get in and out of the
Cherokee. Yes I can get in and out of the 1-26. No I can't get into
the front seat of the Champ (yet).

Bob,

I'd move to Yahoo! No problem. However, I tried to subscribe to this
list from my Yahoo! email address and it wouldn't let me. These emails
are coming through on my Verizon email (Ugh!!) What's the trick to
subscribing to the Yahoo! list?

Melanie,

No. :-( Went up to the airfield this past Sat. The Quick trainer was
supposed to be ready for flight testing; with students hopping on board
the following weekend. However, it was not to be. Trainer wasn't ready
and the 20 knt wind kept everyone on the ground anyway. We hung around,
hanger flew, ate pumpkin bread and donuts, and flew kites. Had to see
something in the sky! :-)

BTW, where's Bee? Didn't she have her checkride on the 28th?
