Q: Sadhguru, does being on the spiritual path make me special?

A. by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

People can find pleasure in all kinds of things. But the one thing they love is to be special. To want what nobody else has is a perversion in

itself. In your quest to be special, you lose out on the joy of living. There is nothing different about applying this notion to spirituality too. This is because you have set yourselves to think that the spiritual process is very difficult. Until recently, our yoga program brochures had the title -"From Ordinary to Extraordinary". People thought that they were going to become special by doing the programme. So they began asking me how the programme was going to transform them into extraordinary beings. And I set the record straight: "This programme is going to make you all the more ordinary than other Spirituality is not about becoming special. It is about becoming one with everything. This disease of wanting to become special manifests itself in people who have not recognised the value and uniqueness of their being. This is simply because they have lived on the surface for so long that their whole effort is to be special. As long as this effort is on, you are only working against the spiritual process. The whole dimension of spirituality is to melt and become one with the Existence, not to stand out like a sore thumb.

In so many ways the mind always wants to be special. That is the nature of the human mind, to be logical, to compare. The minute comparisons begin, competition sets in. With that, the entire sense of life disappears because your sole obsession now is to be better than

-somebody else. And it is because of such foolish endeavours that today we are in this ridiculous situation of having to teach people about their own nature. We have to remind them of what they truly are, simply because they are lost, trying to be like somebody else. So, the more you try to be special, the further you go from the truth. All of man's suffering and mental illness has come from this craving to be special. Instead of deriving perverse pleasure from the fact that somebody doesn't have what you do, if you genuinely make the effort to become one with everything, your subconscious struggle against the nature of spirituality and this Existence will end. Recognise your uniqueness and acknowledge the uniqueness in others; that way, you will know that you are neither more nor less than anybody else on Earth.

Let’s Live Every Moment So We Die Well, Too

Discourse: Sadhguru

Spiritual longing comes to you not because you think of God. If people think of God, they will not become spiritual, they will only think of how to acquire more. If God comes and blesses them, they will want more money, property, health, everything. Only when you think about death, these questions come up: What is this about, where will i go, what will happen to me? This wanting to know will come naturally.
Yoga is not just about life; when we talk about living well, we are also talking about dying well. Dying gracefully, joyfully, is important. It is the final thing you get to do; but most people are doing it horribly.
When we say a spiritual possibility, a space, there is also room to die. Spirituality is a means to live; it is also a means to die because living and dying are not different. Right now i can say you are living, or i can say you are dying.
The process of dying is on; one day it will be complete. It is just that so much negativity is attached to the word “death”. But death is a part of life. One who does not know how to die, or is unwilling to die, cannot live.
If you are afraid of death, you will only avoid life, you cannot avoid death. Every day of your life you need to be aware that you are mortal. In Shoonya meditation everything that you consider as “myself ” will become nothing; it is as if you die. Again, when you open your eyes, it is all there. If you practise this consciously, twice a day, when the time to die comes, it will no more be a big issue.
The process you refer to as life is something that can be constantly improved upon. Not everybody is living with the same quality, level of understanding and grace.
Even if you live a thousand years and do everything that you wish to do, still something better could be done. This is the way of life. But death is perfect and absolute when it happens; death does not need anybody’s assistance. You don’t have to think about it; you don’t have to reflect upon it. But the limited nature of life needs to be reflected upon.
So always the first training for a spiritual aspirant is to go and sit in the cremation ground. You are just like a miracle happening and one day you are gone. Busy in between, but you are like a bubble: when the bubble is on, it is so real; one prick — gone!
Look at this life right now: inhalation, exhalation. If the next inhalation does not happen, that’s it... That is how fragile this life is. People always think death is something that happens to somebody else; it’s not so, it will happen to you and me.
If you remind yourself every day that you will also die, you will move towards knowing higher perception. If you are aware of the mortal nature of your life, is there time to get angry with somebody, to quarrel or do anything stupid?
Once you are conscious that you will die, you will want to make every moment of your life as beautiful as possible. Those who are constantly aware of the fragile nature of existence, they don’t want to miss a single moment; they will naturally be aware. They can’t take anything for granted; they will live purposefully, becoming aware.

Dear Shri Gajanan Maharaj Bhaktas,
                                  II OM II
                           Shri Rama Raksha Stotra
The purpose of mantras is to protect the mind. "Manas" means the
mind and "Tra" means to protect. From our minds our world (and our
karma) is created. To uncreate negative thought patterns it's very
helpful to practice reciting mantras. Just like types of music
changes our mood and our thoughts, mantras do the same, perhaps more
directly and powerfully. The use of mantras, like the practice of
yoga, is one of many gifts of India that have made its way into the
West.

Thus begins the hymn of Lord Ram for protection
OM, Salutations to Lord Ganesh.
(Note - Every mantra has a deity, shakti and central point in
addition to its author, meter and type of usage.)
The author of this hymn is Buddhakaushika. The deity is Sri Sita-
Ramachandra. The metre is anushtup. The power is Sita, central point
is Hanuman, and the usage is recitation.
Thus begins the dhyana (meditation) of this mantra. One should
meditate on Rama who has arms reaching his knees, who is holding a
bow and arrow, who is seated in a lotus position, who is wearing
yellow clothes, whose eyes compete with petals of a fresh lotus, who
looks satisfied, whose eyes are fixed on the lotus-like face of Sita
sitting in his left lap, whose color is like that of rain cloud, who
has adorned different jewelery, who is wearing hair reaching up to
his thighs.
The life story of Sri Rama has a vast expanse and each and every
letter of it is capable of destroying even the greatest sins of
mankind.
Let us meditate on the lotus-eyed, dark-complexioned Rama who is
well-adorned with a crown of hair and has Sita and Lakshmana by his
side.
Let us meditate on Rama who has a sword in a receptacle and bow and
arrows, who destroyed the demons, who is not born but is incarnated
to protect the world with his actions.
May the learned read the Rama Raksha Stotram, which destroys all
sins and grants all desires.
(Begin listing details of the body to be protected)
May Rama who is Raghu's descendant protect my head. May Rama who is
Dasharatha's son protect my forehead.
May the lord Rama who is Kausalya's son, protect my eyes. May Rama
who is the favorite of Vishvamitra protect my ears. May Rama who is
the savior of yagya protect my nose. May Rama who is affectionate to
Lakshmana protect my mouth. May the Rama who is a sea of knowledge
protect my tongue. May Rama who is saluted by Bharata protect my
neck. May Rama who holds divine weapons protect my two shoulders.
May Rama who broke Shiva's bow protect my two upper arms.
May the Rama who is the husband of Sita protect my two hands. May
Rama who conquered Parashurama protect my heart.

May Rama who killed the rakshasa named Khara protect my abdomen. May
Rama who gave refuge to Jambavad protect my navel.
May Rama who is master of SugrIva protect my waist. May Rama who is
master of Hanuman protect my two hips. May Rama who is the best of
Raghus and who destroyed the lineage of Rakshasas (demons) protect
my two thighs.
May Rama who built the bridge protect my two knees. May Rama who
killed the ten faced demons protect my two shins. May Rama who gave
wealth to Vibhishan protect my two feet. Thus may Rama protect my
entire body.
May the good man who reads this 'stotra', which has all the power of
Rama, be blessed with long life, happiness, children, success and
humility.
No one who is wandering below the earth or on the earth or above the
earth or those who wander surreptitiously changing their forms, will
even be able to see the man protected by the name of Rama, let alone
bring any harm to him.
No sin can attach to the man who singeth the praise of the lord and
he will prosper in this world and get salvation.
One who wears this mantra of Rama Nama (the name of Rama) around his
neck will have all powers at his beck and call.
He who wears this armour called vajrapanjara will be unscathed and
will win victory everywhere.
Buddhakaushika was commanded in his dream by Lord Shiva to compose
this hymn, and he did so as soon as he awoke in the morning.
Rama, who grants all desires, removes all obstacles and is the
praise of all three worlds is our 'Lord' indeed.
May the two brothers ever protect us, who are young, handsome, lotus-
eyed and bark and deer-skin dressed.
May these two sons of Dasharatha, the two scions of Raghu, the
brothers Rama and Lakshmana, the ones who are subsisting on roots
and fruits and practicing penance and celibacy, protect us. May they
who are the foremost among the archers, the destroyers of the demons
and the refuge of all beings, protect us.
Rama and Lakshmana, their bows pulled and ready, their hands on the
arrows packed in ever full quivers carried on their backs, may they
always escort me in my path, for my protection.
Ever prepared and armed with sword, shield, bows and arrows and
followed by Lakshmana, Rama is like our cherished thoughts come to
life. May he, along with Lakshman, protect us.
Rama, the scion of Raghu and the son of Dasaratha and Kausalya, and
ever accompanied by Lakshmana, is all powerful and is the perfect
man.
Rama is perceived through Vedanta. He is lord of all yagya, ancient
and the best man, beloved of Janaki, whose bravery is immeasurable.
Lord Shiva says, "my devotee who recites these names of Rama with
faith, will attain more religious merit than one obtainable by other
sacrifices. There is no doubt about it."
Those who sing the praise of Rama, who is lotus-eyed, dark-
complexioned and dressed in yellow clothes, through this hymn are no
longer ordinary men trapped in the world. They become liberated.
I salute that Rama who is handsome, the elder brother of Lakshmana,
the husband of Sita and the best of the scions of the Raghu race,
who is the ocean of compassion, the stockpile of virtues, the
beloved of the Brahmans, the protector of Dharma, who practises the
Truth, the Lord emperor of kings, the son of Dasaratha, dark-
complexioned, the personification of Peace and tranquillity, the
enemy of Ravana, the crown jewel of the Raghu dynasty and the
cynosure (north star) of all eyes.
I salute that Rama who is benevolent and cool as the Moon, and who
is the lord of Sita and the master guardian of all.
I surrender to that Rama who is the delight of the Raghus, elder
brother of Bharata and the tormentor of his enemies in the war.
I remember the two feet of Rama in my mind, I praise them by my
speech, I bow to them with my head, I take resort in them!
Rama is like my mother, father, master and friend, indeed the kind-
hearted Rama is all I have. I know of no other like him, I really
don't!
I salute that Rama who has Lakshmana on his right and Sita on the
left and who has Hanuman in his front.
I take refuge in that Rama who is quite pleasing to the sight, the
master of the stage of war, lotus-eyed, lord of the Raghu race and
compassion-personified.
I take refuge in the Lord Hanuman who is as fast as the mind, equals
his father, the wind-God, in speed, is the master of the senses, the
foremost amongst the learned, the leader of the Monkey forces and
the great messenger of Sri Rama.
I salute the great sage Valmiki who sings the glorious name of Rama
resorting to his Ramayana as sweetly as a cuckoo will sing sitting
atop a tree.
I bow again and again to Rama who removes all obstacles and
grants all wealth and pleases all.
The roar of the name of Rama is the destruction of the cause of
rebirth (hence the cause of liberation), generates wealth and scares
Yama's (death's) messengers.
I worship Rama, the jewel among the kings, through whom the hordes
of demons have been destroyed. Beyond Him there is nothing to be
worshipped. I am His servant, my mind is totally absorbed in Him. O
Rama, please lift me up. This verse gives all the seven declensions
of the singular word Rama and gives one way of remembering them!
O fair-faced Parvati! I enjoy saying Rama Rama. Uttering but once
the name of 'Rama' is equal to the uttering of any other name of
God, a thousand times.

Ji Gajanan!

I read HIS sat charita "Gajanan Vijayam " and went to have Sriji's
Darshan for the first time. With all revereence and folded hands I
prayed to Maharaj to give an opportunity to publish a book on HIM.
When I came to hyderabad, just after Seven days an NRI whom I never
met nor knew called me up and explained that he enquired about me and
asked me to write a book on Shirdi sai baba. I did it. After another
six months a similar offer came from a stranger to write a book on
SHIRDI SA BABA again ! Please believe me. this is the leela of Maharaj.

Ji sadguru GAJANAN MAHARAJ!

Dear Shri Gajanan Maharaj Bhaktas,

Jai Gajanan!

AKSHAY TRITIYA

The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes - hence
beginnings made or valuables bought on this day are considered
certain to bring luck and success. This day is specially important
as on this day any thing you donate is Akshaya or never ending.

Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta Yug. The birthday
of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu falls on this day.
This is one of the most auspicious days according to the Hindu
calendar. So this day is considered auspicious for starting new
ventures and making new purchases.

On this day articles given, in form of alms, dakshina to guru, these
things include grain money, and donations.
Anushtaans done for Mahalaxmiji, the Godess of wealth, will be
beneficial for blessings of prosperity all year round.
Visit Mahalaxmiji mandir, and 4 coins should be thrown in all 4
directions, this will open doors to wealth.
Chanting Anang mantra "Om Hloum Hloom Anangaay Phat" makes one
physically fit and reduces impotency problems.
Married women wear a red thread with vermillion around their necks
and invoke good wishes in a Shiv mandir for longevity of their
husbands. Unmarried ones put it on the feet of Lord Shiva to get the
husband they wish for.
Visit Shiv mandir with neem leaves and after offering to Shiva put
under the pillow of a sick person, the person will recover from his
illness and evil eyes.
It is the day of eternal prosperity for any auspicious beginning and
buying valuables, gold items or remedial measures.

On this day, we can perform Madhusudhana puja, with Tulasi archan
chanting Sri Vishnu Sahasranaamam. And also some special Daanas are
suggested on that day, as given below:

1) Jala Daanam (Water daanam to brahmin with betul nut and dakshina)
it is for wealth.

2) Shayana Daanam (giving bed) it gives all happiness

3) Vasthra Daanam (giving clothes) Ayushyam, Long life

4) Kunkum daanam _ it gives best position in life and also long life
for husband

5) Chandana daanam- it avoids from accidents

6) Thamboolam- It makes a man as ruler of a nation

7) Naarikela Daanam- (Coconut daanam)Our last 7 pithrus will get
relief from naraka

8) Butter milk daanam- its for vidhya praapthi

9) Udakumbha Daanam- Giving water containing in borzz or silver
vessel filling water with paccha karpooram and safron and Tulasi
with betul nut and dalshina.it gives Gaya Shrardha phalam, its the
most important daanam to be given for those who wants to get marry,
who wants to getout of pithru shapas, and peoples who wants to have
a child.

10) Padaraksha- (slipper) this daanam will avoid us from entering
into naraka

11) Chatra Daanam-(umbrella) it removes many obstacles in life

Most of all this we have to take bath in Mahanadis, that is
ganga,yamuna, godhavari, sindhu,sarawathi,narmada,krishna,
bheemarathi, phalgu, sarayoo, Gandaki, gomathi, kauveri, before
sunrise it gives immense phala.

And also one more daanam is suggested to give on that day thats
wheat, its for the satisfaction of Indra , Indra is a reason for
getting rain and growing many eatables on earth, thats why veda
mantra says :

Indra Shrshtaani Draveenani dehi shittim Dhakshasya Subhagathva
masmey

Posham Rayeenaam arishtim thanoonam swadhmaanam vachah sudhinathva
manham

So choose any daanam, or if possible give all the daanams and wash
our bad karmas, and do sadhana here in our Sadhana Bhoomi Bharatha.
