Using Mapsource 6.15.3 and US TOPO, I mark a round either using the
route tool or just connecting 2 way points. Then, I select the route
and click PROFILE. Crashes Mapsource every time. Doesn't matter how
simple or complicated the route is.

It did not this until I did the upgrade.

I haven't upgraded for lots of reasons and this just adds another...

6..13.7 crashes if you join some tracks you've downloaded off the GPS then open
that single track, click the 'center map on selected item(s)' then try to view
any parts of the track - sometimes there's no points of the track to view...

I do wish Garmin would get their act togerher :(

I use 6.15.4 day to day but keep 6.13.7 as well in case of an issues.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Garmin_GPSmap_76C/message/8061

All you need to do is copy MapSource.exe, rename it (e.g. to
MapSource_6137.exe), and create a shortcut for it.

I just tried this in MapSource 6.15.4 and Topo US 2008 (not the older
version) and it works fine (no crash). I'll try it in US Topo (the old
version) when I get a chance.

Just downloaded 6.15.3 last week and didn't noticed that the had
another patch already. Guess I need to get that one now. Sure wish I
had Broadband. But, then again, I don't wish I lived in the city.
Dialup and country life is just fine.

If you visit this groups home page at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Garmin_GPSmap_76C

you'll see a link to the latest version. For whatever reason Garmin's
site still says 6.15.3 is the current release. I try to keep the group
links up to date (within a day or two).

Well, I just did a google of "garmin mapsource download" (no quotes) and the
first link I got was:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

And garmin shows 6.15.4 as the current.

I don't do this very often, so it's great to have a ygroup to get the
notifications, though...

WebUpdater only checks for GPS firmware updates. It won't tell you anything

My 76CSX was destroyed by a leaky battery. The battery company replaced the GPS.
In all of this I was unable to make my still-functional older 76CS work with the
new CNNA NT 2008.

Garmin Customer Service stated that the new City Navigator is not compatible
with models which do not have a SD or MicroSD memory card. So, it CANNOT be
connected to my new software. They said, do not uninstall the old CN NA v7DVD
that I have because that is the last version for my older 76CS.

They also mentioned that they "would not license" my new 76CSx for my older CN
v7DVD because I have the newer version. I mentioned that the older version
broke the maps up into smaller Geo regions and when loading lots of data, it is
handy or even necessary to load only the areas needed to have enough space. The
new version is broken down into states. No Deal! They would not do it.

Who has your destroyed GPSr? If it was sent back to Garmin, I would
insist on the license, since they have the unit and you do not. If
they don't, I can understand why they won't transfer the license.

I sent the destroyed GPSMap76CSx to Rayovac, the battery company, at their
request. They said their engineers would determine if it was repairable or
needed to be replaced. They wrote back a few days later stating that it was not
repairable. I don't know whether they sent it to Garmin. Maybe they just
opened it up and saw the mess from the leaking battery and agreed with me that
the unit would not be dependable any more. If you cannot depend on the GPS, why
carry it!

I guess he is just trying to be stubborn or, doesn't know his job.

Below is the response I got from Garmin, including the responding techie!

***[

Due to how City Navigator NT 2008 is archived it is not able to be downloaded
onto a 76 CS or any unit without expandable memory. Also with the newer version
of City Navigator you have are only allowed to be unlocked to one unit. With
regards to your version 7 being unlocked to your replacement unit I think there
is no need since you have City Navigator NT 2008 on that device already. We can
delete the other device off but in terms of unlocking any devices we don't have
any options since it was the second device to be unlocked to the ver. 7 City
Navigator. Please reply and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Oh yes, another thing. I just spent a chunk of change on CNNA NT and assumed it
was the latest and greatest. I though someone had mentioned CNNA NT 2009 but
mine came new in the box and is CNNA NT2008. I was a little be miffed about
this. Then looking at the map files on the DVD I see they are dated 7/2007.

Does anyone know if Garmin does FREE UDATES when you spend the money and don't
get the latest and greatest. My streetdata is already 2yrs old.

Still attempting to resolve a problem with CNNA.

Who knows the latest version of the CNNA NT with DVD media?

I just bought what I thought was the latest version, still sealed in the box and
it is version CNNA NT 2008 DVD. Files are dated 4/07. My error on a previous
post which stated they were dated 7/07.

The product number I ordered was 010-10816-00. Garmin's Product number for
their latest product on the Garmin site is also 010-10816-00. The DVD says it
is part number 007-00880-02 Rev.A, copyright 2007, Garmin and copyright 2006,
NAVTEQ.

Anyone have the 2009 version?

I have since mid April 2008.

Garmin should give you a free upgrade to 2009 but you have to unlock 2008 first.

And just to be clear the NT maps won't work on a 76CS but will on a 76CSx. The
non-NT work on both. That said the non-NT, not being as popular, are harder to
find.

It is the "NT" version that makes it only run on CX or CSX. They do have the
non-NT versions of CN 2008 that would work on the previous 76 models. As the
Garmin tech says, it is archived differently - meaning they have a newer
compression on the maps that the older models do not recognize.

any options since it was the second device to be unlocked to the ver. 7 City
Navigator. Please reply and let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hello all,
I am a new user of a Garmin 76CSX. I plan to use it for driving, hiking and hang
gliding.
Never owned a GPS before.

I have managed to understand the basic workings without too much hair pulling,
but one thing I have not been able to figure out yet...

Glide to destination does not always work.

I was taking a short flight last week and decided to bring the GPS to see if
Glide ratio and glide to destination worked.

Glide ratio worked fine. It jumped all over the place which I understand is
normal.

I couldn't get glide to destination to show any info at all. I had selected
victoria (B.C. Canada) as the destination from the map on the GPS itself by
moving the arrow waaaaaay over the strait of Georgia to Vancover Island and
stting it onto Victoria and clicking the enter key (make waypoint or mark the
spot or such).

During the flight the GPS did tell me how far I was from destination, and it
gave the correct heading towards destination (even in turns) but glide to
destination remained blank.

On the way back home to Vancouver, I selected "Home" as the destination. This is
a waypoint I set by standing outside my house and hitting the enter key to set a
waypoint.

So this waypoint gave me glide to dest data, but the other did not.
The only thing I can think of is that the GPS somehow stores altitude data for
that waypoint when it is created when the gps is actually at that spot (when you
hit enter).
When you select using the arrow and the map, the GPS doesn't use any altitude
data for the destination so it only gives a heading...
Is this correct???

If so, is there a way to enter the altitude data when away from a computer (and
mapsource)??? I also wish to apply this to setting altitude about 300 feet
above a potential waypoint (landing zone) so I can arrive with lots of altitude,
and glide to destination doesn't mean I'll be hitting the ground when I arrive.

Can I use mapsource to alter altitude data for my waypoints as described above?

Thanks for any info

Alp

Update on the CN NA NT 2008 issue.

I contacted Garmin through their site. I explained the software issue of not
getting the latest version when purchase.

Garmin Customer Service apologized and said that I could download FREE, the
latest version of maps from their site or order a DVD set with the maps on it.
The site stated that the download option was NOT for dialup lines, which I have.
(Benefits of living in the country). Anyway, I ordered the DVD option, and paid
the shipping for the update. They say they will ship in 3-4 weeks! Hard to
imagine they are that far behind. But, an upgrade for the maps in on the way.

Thank you Garmin! Thanks to all of you for your comments and help.

Ken

their latest product on the Garmin site is also 010-10816-00. The DVD says it
is part number 007-00880-02 Rev.A, copyright 2007, Garmin and copyright 2006,

Yes, you have no altitude recorded. Using Mapsourse you can enter the altitude
you want.
