FA-FA-FA-FASHION! !

Please join us for a little conversation on fashion and a mini CLOTHING SWAP.
Do you have a fashion icon? Certain labels you like? What's in?! What's out?!
What do you think transgender people should wear ~ what should they never wear?!
And is there even such a thing?!
Feel free to join the casual conversation and bring something you may want to
give away for a CLOTHING SWAP!
T-TALK is an informal peer lead conversation group for those who identify as
Transgender or just questioning their gender. All are welcome!"

SAVE THE DATE!
The Empire Conference Returns To
Albany, New York · April 12-14, 2012

TransEventsUSA Inc. is pleased to announce the third annual EMPIRE CONFERENCE, the region's most successful transgender conference for all crossdressers, transgender people, transsexuals, the gender queer and the gender variant. Male to female and female to male, young and old, parents, friends, partners, and families of trans are all invited to attend.
TRANSGENERATIONS is the conference theme for 2012, and we will offer many new programs and workshops dealing with trans youth and trans seniors. Parents and partners are also encouraged to attend these important workshops and seminars.
And of course we'll have workshops with surgeons, doctors, therapists, voice specialists, makeup artists and many more. Just about every facet of transgender life will be included in these educational and entertaining workshops and seminars.
Right now, we are looking at several great program ideas:
  • An afternoon shopping trip to the Crossgates Mall, the region's premier shopping destination, featuring stores such as DSW, Bakers, Payless, Famous Footwear, Macy's, Express, Victoria's Secret, Lane Bryant, New York and Co., Express, H&M, Fredericks of Hollywood, The Limited and many, many more! It's going to be a great day and we'll have some seasoned mall-goers on hand to help you out and offer a bit of guidance.
  • A murder mystery dinner
  • A brewery tour
  • A debutante ball (especially for our "first timers")
  • Special programs for trans youth and trans seniors
  • And more!

Call for Presenters and Workshop Leaders!
for TransEvent 2012 — The Empire Conference

TransEventsUSA is accepting proposals for presentations and workshops for the 2012 Empire Conference, which will be serving the Transgender Community in all its diversity April 12-14, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in historic downtown Albany, New York. Our featured theme is TransGenerations—Transgender Issues of Youth and the Elderly and All In Between. We hope you will consider participating in our educational program.

In addition to presentations relating to directly to the theme, we are especially looking for programs that examine ways of changing the perception of Transgender through Education, Advocacy and Lobbying. Almost any topic that addresses the concerns of Transsexuals, Crossdressers, Partners of Trans people, Trans couples, and children of Trans people will be welcome.

Past conference attendees have also expressed interest for more information on Transgender Health, Medicine, and Legal issues. And sessions focused on Trans people in relationships are desired for those attending either with or without their partners.

It is expected that there will once again be significant participation from the Female-to-Male community, so their issues and concerns need to be addressed. We hope to have a full program track for FtMs.

We welcome proposals that can give us all a new slant on creating more unity in the Transgender Community—in both the political and social realms. New ideas and new faces are particularly welcome at the Empire Conference. Be creative! We look forward to learning about the new and exciting programs you can bring to this eager audience.

Submit your proposal as soon as possible, but no later than the November 15, 2011 deadline, to insure space and schedule availability. Use the online Program Proposal Form.

Your proposal will include a brief biography, a brief program description, any A/V needs, as well as contact information. Let us know if you are planning a panel presentation, so we can get in touch with you about biographies and contact information for your panelists. If panelist information is not received in a time, it cannot be included in the program listings.

We offer a complimentary conference day to each presenter or panel moderator only. (Unless it is a special invited panel.) You will need to complete a conference registration if your program is accepted. If you have questions regarding your proposal, contact Alison Laing, Program Chair, at , or P.O. Box 473, Portsmouth, RI 02871-0475.

Hi,

June and I attended the showing of Gun Hill Road film.

Fantastic bitter-sweet film... very well done. It is now in the top of my
personal list of favorites for Trans films. I will buy the DVD when it become
available.

I hope that it is nominated for film awards, and I hope the young Trans Woman
(Harmony Santana), playing a Trans Woman, is nominated for awards.

Huggs,
jami

Hello friends;

As we close-out the month, there are three Trans-focused
events coming up, at Center on Halsted.

This Monday, 9/19, we will gather to watch the season
premiere of "Dancing with the Stars". Why??

Because, for the first time, one of the contestants is
a proudly "out" trans person; Chaz Bono.

The vitriolic, disgusting hate blog's, comments have
shown a painful picture of the amount of Transphobia
still present in our society.

Coming together to root for Chaz is one way we can
respond to this hate.

Then on Saturday, 9/24, we will host our regular
"Trans_Cinema" film screening. This month, Karen will
be showing the moving British drama; "Crying Game".

Lastly, on Monday, 9/26, we will hold the first meeting
of "T Talk SOFFA". This casual conversation group is
intended to be a place where Significant Others, Family
members, Friends, and Allies, can come together to share
and learn.

Details;
9/19: Support Chaz
Room open at 6:30pm, show begins at 7pm.
Soda and popcorn will be there. However,
feel free to bring your favorite reality
       show snacks.

9/24: Trans-Cinema
room open at 6:30pm, screening begins at
       7pm.

9/26; T Talk, SOFFA
       Meeting begins at 6:30pm

As we all know, "coming-out", expressing our Trans or gender
variant identity has an impact on those around us;
our significant others, family members, co-workers and friends.

Sadly, members of this group have few resources.

That is why we are excited to launch "T Talk SOFFA".

This casual conversation group will give folks, who have a Trans
or gender variant person in their life, a chance to share,
learn and discuss their experiences.

Facilitated by Gregory Gross, a cisgender member of the center's
staff, the group will discuss those topics of interest to members.

Join us as we launch this new group.

For most of us, our contacts with members of any police force
are limited to the occasional traffic stop.

However, when we venture into big, busy city of Chicago, we
may come in contact with members of the Chicago Police Dept.

Join us, on Saturday, October 8th, as Officer Jose Rios, the
Chicago Police Department's LGBT Liaison Officer talks about
those inner-action.

Officer Rios will discuss how to express yourself in an
effective, productive manner, how to be sure that your rights are
respected, and what to do, if you feel they are not.

Hi,
I am sorry this has so long to get out;

Transgender Day of Remembrance, November 20th, began in 1998 to memorialize our
Transgender friends and allies who lost their lives because of who they were or
who they were perceived to be.

Center on Halsted is joining Howard Brown's Broadway Youth Center to commemorate
this important day.

We will host a community reception and resource fair featuring groups from
across Chicagoland that provide support and assistance to the diverse Trans
community including Chicago Gender Society, The Civil Rights Agenda, Bisexual
Queer Alliance of Chicago, Howard Brown Health Center and Center on Halsted.

Following the reception, we will hold a memorial service in the Hoover-Leppen
Theatre honoring those we have lost and committing ourselves to building a
better and safer community for all trans people.

Finally, the Broadway Youth Center will present "Night of Fallen Stars," a
celebratory event honoring the community.

Many of you may have heard Mara Keisling's
presentation; "Coming out-It's not all about you."

Our becoming gender aware, no matter how we may
act upon that awareness, effects a wide range of
people.

From our significant others, to our family members,
from our friends to our employers, and those who are
our allies, people are impacted.

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of "support" for
these folks.

However, at Center on Halsted, we have made a serious
effort to be inclusive of anyone who might have a
Trans or Gender Variant person in their lives.

While cis folks are welcome at many of our programs,
(3656 Trans Ave, "T Out Mic", and TransCinema), we
also have two specific and one general group for
the Trans SOFFA community.

The specific groups are;

"PTI", Parents of Trans Individuals.
This peer lead group features both general conversation
as well as speakers of importance to the community.
"PTI" meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, beginning at
7pm.

"Trans Amor"
Also a peer lead conversation group, it welcomes those, (both
trans and cis), who have been in, are in, or are considering
entering a relationship with a Trans or gender questioning
person.
They meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, at 2:30pm.

Our general group is; "T Talk" SOFFA.
Lead by someone with experience in both counseling and the
Trans community, this group is open to anyone who has a
Trans or Gender variant person in their life.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the HIV virus.

Often times times prevention messages are only focused on
gay men, which can lead to our thinking that they are the only
ones who have to worry about HIV.

Yet we know that the Trans communities are also at a very high
risk of infection.

Please join us, in this safe space to break down this myth, and

Standards of Care

Ms-understood, ms-applied, dis-liked by many in the
broad Trans community.

The WPATH, (World Professional Association for Transgender Health),
formerly know as the Harry Benjamin Standards of Care, have a major
impact on the lives of many people today.

In September of 2011, Version 7th was released.

This new version has many changes, (or improvements as I and others
would describe them).

Join us as we review the new version and it's changes.
