My sensual Yuletide historical romance, 'The Snow Bride,' is now available as a discounted pre-order from Bookstrand. It wil be released on Dec 27th - perfect timing for a romantic winter read.

She is Beauty, but is he the Beast?

Elfrida, spirited, caring and beautiful, is also alone. She is the witch of the woods and no man dares to ask for her hand in marriage until a beast comes stalking brides and steals away her sister. Desperate, the lovely Elfrida offers herself as a sacrifice, as bridal bait, and she is seized by a man with fearful scars. Is he the beast?

In the depths of a frozen midwinter, in the heart of the woodland, Sir Magnus, battle-hardened knight of the Crusades, searches ceaselessly for three missing brides, pitting his wits and weapons against a nameless stalker of the snowy forest. Disfigured and hideously scarred, Magnus has finished with love, he thinks, until he rescues a fourth 'bride', the beautiful, red-haired Elfrida, whose innocent touch ignites in him a fierce passion that satisfies his deepest yearnings and darkest desires.

Coming soon from Bookstrand Publishing 2011

Excerpt:
Magnus  was worried. The fire he had made should have brought his people. It was an old signal, well-known between them. His men should have reached the village by now—that had been the arrangement. They were bringing traps and provisions, in covered wagons, and hunting dogs and horses. He had been impatient to start his pursuit of the Forest Grendel and so rode ahead, returning with the messenger until that final stretch when the man turned off to his home. He had ridden on alone, finding the wayside shrine.
But from then, all had gone awry. Instead of the monster, he had found an ailing witch, and the snow storm had lost him more tracks and time.
Magnus shook his head, turning indulgent eyes to the small, still figure on the rough pallet. At least the little witch had slept through the night and day, snug and safe, and he had been able to make her a litter from woven branches. He would give his fire signal a little longer and then return Elfrida to her village. There he might find someone who could translate between them.
Perhaps she did have power, for even as he looked at her, she sat up, the hood of her cloak falling away, and stared at him in return. She said something, then repeated it, and he drew in a great gulp of cold air in sheer astonishment, then laughed.
“I know what you said!” He wanted to kiss her, spots and all.
He burst into a clumsy canter, dragging his peg leg a little and almost tumbling onto her bed. She caught him by the shoulders and tried to steady him but collapsed under his weight.
They finished in an untidy heap on the pallet, with Elfrida hissing by his ear, “Why you have done such a foolish thing as to burn all our fuel?”
He rolled off her, knocked snow off his front and beard and said in return, “How did you know I would know the old speech, the old English?”
“I dream true, and I dreamed this.” She was blushing, though not, he realized quickly, from shyness.
“Why burn so wildly?” she burst out, clearly furious. “You have wasted it! All that good wood gone to ash!”
“My men know my sign and will come now the storm has gone.” He had not expected thanks or soft words, but he was not about to be scolded by this red-haired nag.
“That is your plan, Sir Magnus? To burn half the forest to alert your troops?”
“A wiser plan than yours, madam, setting yourself as bait. Or had your village left you hanging there, perhaps to nag the beast to death?”
Her face turned as scarlet as the fire. “So says any witless fool! ’Tis too easy a charge men make against women, any woman who thinks and acts for herself. And no man orders me!”
Magnus swallowed the snort of laughter filling up his throat. He doubted she saw any amusement in their finally being able to speak to each other only to quarrel. Had she been a man or a lad, he would have knocked her into the snow, then offered a drink of mead, but such rough fellowship was beyond him here.
“And how would you have fought off any knave, or worse, that found you?” he asked patiently. “You did not succeed with me.”
“There are better ways to vanquish a male than brute force. I knew what I was about!”
“Truly? You were biding your time? And the pox makes you alluring?”
“Says master gargoyle! My spots will pass!”
“Or did you plan to scatter a few herbs, perhaps?”
He thought he heard her clash her teeth together. “I did not plan my sickness, and I do not share my secrets! Had you not snatched me away, had you not interfered, I would know where the monster lives. I would have found my sister! I would be with her!” Her voice hitched, and a look of pain and dread crossed her face. “We would be together. Whatever happens, I would be with her.”
“This was Christina?”
Is Christina, not was, never was! I know she lives!”
Magnus merely nodded, his temper cooling rapidly as he marked how her color had changed and her body shook. A desperate trap to recover a much-loved sister excused everything, to his way of thinking.
She called you a gargoyle! This piqued his vanity and pride.
But she does not think you the monster, Magnus reminded himself in a dazzled, shocked wonder, embracing that knowledge like a lover.

EXCERPT of Book Two, Red Leopard:

The tall woman had ivory skin, full pink lips, short flaxen hair and deep blue eyes enhanced by curved blue lines tattooed around them.  And what about your sword, Red Leopard, is it?

A Gray took a step toward Terek.

The woman raised one hand to stop him.  She had six fingers, like a Mutant or a Godd.  Ill handle this.  She stared into Tereks eyes.  She looked Human, taller than him, and extremely refined. What are your intentions, Red Leopard?

How do you know my name?  Tereks heart beat like a battle drum.

She had a sad smile.  The same way I knew you were coming.  You were betrayed.

Terek bristled at the idea that someone had intentionally sent a hundred Humans and a dozen felines to certain death. Who is the traitor?

Its not important.  The woman moved with natural grace, the pale blue silk floating around her shapely hips and slim thighs with each step. Im Galya.

The name told him nothing.  She exhibited no fear as she approached him, although he still held his sword at the ready, and she wore no armor that he could see.  If she came any closer, he wouldwhat?  Kill her?  The Grays would retaliate and massacre his warriors.

Struggling to ignore the way his body flushed in her proximity, Terek stared back at Galya.  I hope in all fairness that you will spare my fighters.  I take full responsibility for the attack.  But I would rather die than surrender myself.

I like your style, Red Leopard.  The shadow of a smile played on the womans lips and she patted the exquisite white scabbard hanging from her silver sash.  I need field practice, and you seem like a worthy opponent.

She stepped out of her high platform shoes.  A general gasp filled the room.  She now stood at eye level with Terek.  Could she be Human?  No.  She had six lovely toes.

Terek couldnt imagine grappling with her in single combat.  Or rather, he could.  An intimate battle.  He felt himself blush at the lusty thought and caught amusement in Galyas blue eyes.  Despite her pale looks and cool demeanor, he sensed in her a smoldering passion.

She unsheathed a pristine silvery blade that shimmered in the artificial light.  You fight me, and Ill decide whether to spare your warriors or execute you all for treason.

Join Jack As He Discovers He Has An Unexpected Weakness.

"Anyhow, calling twice in twenty-four hours? Tongues will wag." Flouncing ahead,
Mrs Parker glanced over her shoulder and winked. "Come along now. What are you
waiting for? Your ward is in the kitchen."
"She's not my ward." Huntley bristled.
"Well, who or whatever Miss Foster is or isn't, the girl is a veritable angel."
"Really?" A prickle of discomfort played over his skin.
"Judge for yourself." Her thumb rested on the kitchen latch. "Ready?"
"Of course." He scowled, "Why would I not be?"
"No reason." Mrs. Parker smiled mischievously. "No reason at all."
The door swung open on a cozy kitchen. Jack knew the scene well; the dresser
laden with crockery and painted jugs, coppers glinting on the mantle shelf and a
vase of hyacinths on the table. Assured as he was, Jack Huntley was woefully
unprepared as a shaft of spring sunlight fell across Miss Foster's flawless
complexion. Her hair, which the previous night had been concealed beneath an
ugly bonnet, lay plaited over her shoulder in a glossy chestnut rope. But most
staggering of all was her eyes, wide eyes of deep velvet brown that were at that
precise moment regarding him warily. It was as if he'd been punched in the
chest. Merciful heavens, what was wrong with him?
Jack's default faade of nonchalance served him well, as he managed a cool bow.
"Miss Foster, I trust you slept well." A muscle in his jaw twitched. He longed
to stare, every fiber of his body riveted on this beautiful woman in a dowdy
dress. His hand itched, subconsciously stroking the peachy ripeness of her pink
cheek. Her remarkable eyes opened wider as she blushed, delightfully.
"I slept tolerably sir, thank you."
Huntley couldn't recall the last time he'd seen such a vision. The reason for
his visit flew out of his head and an uncomfortable silence stretched between
them. Miss Foster weakened first, lowering her eyes to pluck at that brown sack
of a dress, but nonetheless, there was a dignity in her bearing that caused
sympathy to soften Huntley's mood.
He recalled his wits and scowled.
"Sir?" Her voice was soft, with a faint country accent. "I thank you sincerely
for your actions yesterday evening. Without your intervention, goodness only
knows what would have become of me. Thank you."
It took more strength that a boxing round at Gentleman Jackson's to fashion a
reply.
"I was glad to be of assistance." He was almost completely drunk on the sweep of
her dark lashes. "No doubt you wish to be reunited with your acquaintance, as
soon as possible," he said gruffly.
Miss Foster grew pale and that puzzled him.

MEET JACK HUNTLEY. (From EULOGY'S SECRET by GRACE ELLIOT)

Jack Huntley was late and therefore in a foul mood. In his view good
time-keeping was the measure of a man and to be tardy an unpardonable offence.
So as he turned the corner into Grosvenor Square and a woman's scream rent the
air, he felt unreasonably annoyed. For a moment he even considered hurrying on
to his appointment, but then his conscience forbade such neglect and he stopped
to listen. The commotion seemed to be coming from outside Lord Devlin's
residence. With a sigh, he crept closer and glimpsed two ruffians making off
with a woman.
"Stop!" Jack bellowed. "Unhand her this instant!"
His request met with foul curses.
"Stop, I say! Put her down."
"Oh yeah? And what if I don't want to?"
This wasn't part of Jack's plan for the evening and he now felt very irritated
indeed.
"Then I shall make you." Huntley sighed and stepped closer. Taller than average,
broad and muscular, his intimidating presence was diminished only by being
outnumbered.
"Yeah? What with? The sharp side of your tongue?"
Huntley reached for his sword stick. Cold steel hissed through the air.
"I'm late and I dislike being late. Now, if you'd kindly put her down we can
both be about our business, no harm done and I won't take this any further."
With a hollow laugh, the felon carrying the woman threw her to the ground. She
lay deathly still. Silently the villains split apart, circling like wolves, one
on either side of Huntley to cut off his escape.
"Two ag'in one." A broad bladed hunting knife glinted in the lamplight. "Now
why don't yer be sensible and keep on walkin'?"
Huntley couldn't say which irked him more, being delayed or threatened, but one
thing was certain, these dogs weren't going to get the upper hand, not if he had
anything to do with it. With a sigh, he prepared to teach the ruffians a lesson.
In a deadly dance, the three men circled, sizing each other up. A crude blade
whistled past Huntley's ear. He ducked, spun, and with a vicious sweep of his
sword sent the felon sprawling backward. Huntley might have been outnumbered,
but with athletic grace he parried and thrust, moving with lightning speed to
rebuff attacks from both sides. As his attackers grew bolder, working as a team,
he found himself pressed, retreating against the basement railings of Lord
Devlin's house to protect his back.
Huntley had little choice but to hold his ground. To attack one felon left him
open to the other, and after several minutes of stalemate Huntley began to
question the wisdom of interring. Typical! If he'd been on time, he wouldn't
have had to get involved. Pah! That's what happened with poor time-keeping.
Momentarily distracted, the knife whistled dangerously close to his neck.
Discomforted, Huntley glanced around. He thought of calling for help, but there
was no one around. On this moonless, wet night everyone was safe indoors. With
an ill-humored swipe, he parried the slashing knife with a sword thrust. Metal
clanged on metal, the vibrations jarring his wrist.
"Be on your way," Huntley added, "and I'll take this no further."
"Nuffin' I dislikes more than an arrogant toff."
Huntley dodged, the blade so close he felt its coldness on his skin.
"Admit defeat and be on your way. No hard feelings."
"No thanks, mate, reckon as we'll have your purse as well."
With a growl, both felons closed in, leaving Huntley with nowhere to go.

I have no sense of direction. Many, many times my total lack of direction has
got me into trouble, such as the time I went the wrong way round the M25 and a
journey that should have taken quarter of an hour, took 90 minutes. And last
summer, I decided to take my son to the Museum of London, only to end up at the
London Docklands Museum (a subtle but essential difference, which meant we ended
up at completely the wrong place!) However, in this case all ended well since
the Dockland museum was fascinating and has inspired today's blog post on:
London Bridge.
It is not my intention to give a history of this historic landmark, but more a
mention of some of the lesser known legends associated with it.

Good Morning Fellow Authors, Readers, Internet users,

Many years ago, there was a pastor by the name of Martin Niemoller who wrote this memorable piece about the Nazi's:

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

What I am about to say isn't about Nazis, it's about when to say something before it's too late. On the surface, the SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, and it's twin senate bill, PIPA, both seem like a great idea....on the outside. I've had my books pirated, and I'd love it if it didn't happen. But when this US bill is placed side by side with ...say.. China's internet censorship, there really are few differences. And that's a frightening thing. Not only would this bill change the face of the internet as we know it, it could set in place monopolies. Experience says when there's only one well to drink from, the price of water gets as high as the monopoly wants it to be. This would include paying for internet use. But beyond monopolies, it also opens the door to internet censorship. Authors, many of us write erotic fiction. How long before that door closes right in our faces? How many of our blogs and websites would be shut down for inappropriate content? Rolling that ball forward, how long before the virtual book burnings begin? Non-erotic romance writers, how long before someone determines what appropriate is? The people of China know.

Today, January 18th, is a day of protest. To show the world what this bill of censorship can do, sites such as Mozilla, Wordpress, Wikipedia, and thousands of others are blacking out. If you can't join this very important fight by blacking out, please inform yourself and say something. Please take the time to learn about SOPA and PIPA  http://sopablackout.org/learnmore/ and then call or fax http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/  and email your Representative and Senators https://wfc2.wiredforchange.com/o/9042/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=8173

The internet is a remarkable FREE tool -- a marvelous resource for information. How many times as writers do we chase down a thought or check a fact for our stories? Do other people have the right to tell you what you can and cannot discover?...what you can and cannot know? I've set my blog to go black for 24 hours http://calliopeswritingtablet.com/ Visit me there to learn more. I'll also be calling my reps and signing the petitions today. I hope you do too. Please say something before it's too late. Thanks.

LASTEST BLOG POST ALERT!
The Great Seducers (part 3) - The Ideal Lover.
The first two parts of this series looked at the siren (who masters by
manipulation) and the rake (adores but unable to commit). Today's post and our
third type of seducer, is 'the ideal lover', who in theory should be less
threatening to our composure, but in reality is every bit as dangerous.
The ideal lover feeds off people's dissatisfaction and in a world of
disillusionment he or she is gifted in the illusion of devotion.
The model for our ideal lover is Casanova. Perhaps the most prolific seducer in
history, few women were able to resist him. And his secret?

Anna Rose St. Cyr, determined to hold her family plantation, was more woman than most men could handle. The headstrong southern belle had a mind of her own and she could not deny that she'd met her match in handsome Morgan York. After hiring the mysterious stranger as foreman of her Louisiana plantation, she could think of nothing except his lean hard body pressed against hers, the strength of his arms around her, and the taste of passion on his lips.

Morgan York would not be tamed. He kept his heart, scarred, shielded from any who tried, but something burned bright in the emerald eyes of Anna St. Cyr. He sensed rebellion and wildness in her soul that brought out emotions he thought long dead and threatened to consume him. With each passing day, he grew more obsessed with her southern sensuality, and captivated with her response to his touch. Knowing that his past could mean the destruction of their future, he vows to hear her call out his name as makes her his own.
