Hi, my name is Pamela. I have been very busy lately, and finally had time to
make something, and I put the photos in the e-mail. The pattern for both pieces
are the same, but the beads and closure is different. The choker I made for
myself, and the plant decoration can be used as a choker or a plant decoration.
Here in Arizona, my plants mold unless I use clay pots. Clay pots get kind of
boring unless I do something to them. If I paint them, the plants will mold too,
so this decoration works, and if I want to wear it, I take it off of the pot.
The plant decoration I used jute. Thank you for letting me join, and I hope to
get to know all of you better.
Pamela
I used a brown waxed cord for the first piece. It is a choker. I measured the
cord for the choker by taking the cord from my hand to my elbow, and I times it
by six. Then I cut three more cords at this length for a total of four.
Align all cords and fold in half.
At 3/4 inches from the fold, tie an overhand knot. This creates the loop, and 8
working cords below it.
I then use a clip board to hang on to the work.
Tie a square knot using 4 knotting cords and 4 filler cords.
Tie a 3 and 1/4 inces of half knots.
Tie 8 rows of alternating square knots, starting with a 2 knot row.
Tie two 3/4 inch sinnet of half knots. With the laft 4 cords and another with
the right 4 cords.
Tie a square knot with the center 4 cords.
String your first bead using two filler cords in the middle.
Tie 3 rows of alternating square knots, starting with a 2 knot row.
String the middle bead. With the choker I strug all the cords through the hold.
With the plant decoration, I used the four center cords. This is the middle of
the choker.
Repeat the steps backward.
I finished the plant decoration by tying 2 overhand knots. The choker, I tied a
half knot, and attached a lobster claw to an O ring, and made a square knot
using four inner cords through the O ring.
Then I cut the excess off, and burned the wax cord a little to keep it from
coming loose.

I recommend "Hemp Masters Getting Knotty" by Max Lunger it's available at Fire
Mountain Gems. I also highly recommend the Fire Mountain gems hemp cord. I
recently switched to it from Hobby Lobby cord and there is a universe worth of
difference between the two.

Hi, I'm Cheryl.
I just joined this group.
I love making jewelry and want to learn how to make hemp jewelry. I have been
having a difficult time finding instruction booklets in the stores. I don't want
to buy sight unseen over the internet.
what book would you recommend to someone learning how to make hemp jewelry?

thanks. it is kinda funny because I just got home from Michaels and I bought a
book while I was there. But I will keep the information because this booklet
looks like I will outgrow it quick.

Hello Friends,
Thanks so very much, Patricia for making this group available. :-)
I have returned to macrame' after a 20+ year hiatus. I'm re-learning the
techniques and still very much a beginner. Right now I'm working on 2
bracelets and several key chains. I've found a fantastic, local source
for beads. And I'm very excited about making and eventually selling my
macrame' jewelry. I'm also a spinner and spin hemp and silk almost
everyday. I'm looking forward to getting to know, sharing with and
learning from all of you. :-)
Always a pleasure,

I would reccomend you just look at the pattens that are free in the FILES
sectionof this group. There's a whole bunch of FREE patterns, and once you
learn the basics, you can wing it from there. Also, you could google/bing
macrame or help pattern or HOW-TO and find many many other patterns aswell.
The internet is such a great resource you actually don't need to buy a book.
I have bought a few books about it, and rented some from the library, but this
group has been a better resource than any book.
= )
Happy knotting!

Greetings to the Group,
My name is Liam Boyle, and I've been working with hemp since the end of 2004, so
for about five years now. I was making macrame jewelry, mostly pretty basic
stuff, but in early '05 I was in an area with very strong competition among hemp
slingers. To distinguish my own work from the work of others I started
crocheting using the hemp jewelry cord. You can see some of my work on my
website: http://www.happybilly.etsy.com
I'm not trying to advertise my own site here, as I'm sure many group members
have their own. I'm here to learn new knots and patterns from others and share
some of the techniques I have developed.
Namaste,
Liam Boyle aka The Happy Hippiebilly
What glue if any to you use to secure your finished ends? Or do you use some
other finishing technique?
Macrame rings... do you wash your hands with the rings on? If so, does the
water/soap deteriorate the cording?
Greetings to all. I'm Alesia, I have made macrame projects off and on since,
dare I say, the last 70's/early 80's. I'm am currently revisiting my interest
with micro macrame and jewelry projects. I have in the past made plant hangers
and purses and some jewelry. I have found myself in a great situation of
teaching grade schoolers the art of macrame as part of an after school program,
if anyone has project suggestions for kids that would be most helpful and
welcome.
Hi all, I have a question about a pattern. I know it has to be simple, but I
just can't get it right. It's basically 3 square knots in a row. I had a belt
done in this way and it broke and I want to make a knew one. Since file
attachments are not allowed and this is an extra step out of ones way I
apologize, but I will post a pic in the files under the name Whitneye so you can
see what type of pattern I am looking for.
Thank a lot,
Whitneye
I have just made a marijuana/hemp site. Please take a look, and tell me what you
think. Please visit the links as well.

Welcome, Patricia!! I am sure it will be lot's of fun as I am still trying to
figure out the basics. Haven't posted here in a long time. Hope to have time to
do so more. Have a beautiful day.

Hi everyone my name is Patricia. I'm the new list owner. I want this to be a
lot of fun. When I first started to join groups on yahoo this group was the
first one I joined. I don't plan to change much with the group,to that I will be
changing the color and home page. I want to put up your work there each month or
every two weeks. I need you to send pics. & information on how you made the
item. I also plan to have monthly (maybe) challenges with (hopefully) prizes.
There will be a call for donations such as extra supplies, gift certifcates from
your shops and or a write up in your blogs. So let me know what you think this
idea and the rest of them.

The list has a new owner! Patricia (erras1m) has stepped up and is taking over
for me, effective immediately. I will be leaving the group in the next couple
of weeks, but all of my patterns/photos will remain =) Thanks for being a great
group! I have learned a lot here over the years. Maybe when my daughter is old
enough not to get into everything I'll take it all back out and join you again
=)
And thank you, Patricia!
Tsaria
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the owner call is closed now &
we'll be announcing the change shortly. Thank you to everyone that offered to
take over for me!
Tsaria
Is anyone interested in being the new list owner? I have not had the time to do
any macrame since before my 2yo was born, so I'd like to pass the torch.
Tsaria
Hi Constance,
Thank you for your encouragement. I run a beading group and I put up a
challenge called "Out of the Ordinary" where members were asked to include
something a little different into their beading. I chose micro macramé as I
have always wanted to try it but I didn't realize how difficult it would be for
me. The challenge finishes on July 31 so I have dropped out. When I get over
my disappointment I may feel the urge to try again. I know, I am pathetic, but
I wouldn't dream of showing work that wasn't of a reasonable standard. At least
I know where to come if I need help in the future. Thanks for your interest.
I don't know the French book you mentioned but if it is complicated it sure
wouldn't be for me.

Hi Lynn
I am not sure if I can persevere!
>
Sure you can! I know, these thin cords can be tricky. But if you practice with
simple projects, I'm sure you'll succeed: e.g. simple half knot earrings with
fringe or "fan" braclets with lots of beads and just a few knots. And if you're
happy with the result proceed to more complex designs.
Do you know the French macrame-book by Marie le Sueur? Very pretty, but rather
complicated...
Happy knotting,
Constance in Berlin
