On May 24, in a powerful one-hour program, Oprah Winfrey travels with Nobel
Peace Prize winner and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, author of Night, on
what he has called his final trip to the Auschwitz death camp in Poland.
During this historic visit, Oprah and Professor Wiesel retrace his steps
from when he first arrived in a cattle car with his family in 1944. The
two walk the vast grounds to Wiesel's former barrack Block 17 and the
remains of
Crematorium III where his mother and sister perished. In a dramatic
conclusion, Oprah and Wiesel bear painful witness to the mountains of
relics
left behind by the millions of human beings who lost their lives at the
hands of the Nazi regime. See the Holocaust through the eyes of a man who
lived it.
Then on May 25, Elie Wiesel meets the 50 winners of Oprah's National High
School Essay Contest. The winning essays were selected from approximately
50,000 submissions that answered the question "Why is Elie Wiesel's book
Night relevant today?"
The students are joined in studio by several Holocaust survivors, all of
whom are committed to never letting the world forget what happened and to
delivering the message that this horror must not be allowed to happen
again.
Plus, in an unforgettable reunion, two sisters who once thought their
parents were murdered during the genocide in Rwanda are reunited with
their family after 12 years.
The Oprah Winfrey Show has remained the number one talk show for 19
consecutive seasons in the United States, winning every sweeps since its
debut in 1986. It is produced in Chicago by Harpo Productions, Inc. and
syndicated to 215 domestic markets by King World and to 122 countries by
CBS Paramount International Television.
