CZECH REPUBLIC:
Hundreds arrested in neo-nazi marchFrom correspondents in Prague
AT least 250 people were arrested during violent clashes in the Czech
capital yesterday as neo-Nazis tried to march through the Jewish quarter
of Prague.
Police seized weapons, including a gas gun, axes and sticks, as the
extremists tried to reach the Jewish quarter, police said.
At least six people, including one policeman, suffered head injuries.
The march had been scheduled to take place a day after the anniversary of
Kristallnacht, the 1938 night of terror when the Nazis attacked synagogues
and Jewish homes and businesses in Germany and parts of Austria.
The march was banned, and 1400 policemen were deployed in the capital,
including riot police and officers on horses. In a major clash downtown,
two dozen neo-Nazis were attacked by anti-fascists.
More than 250 people were detained.
