Is Sydney superior to Melbourne?   Message List
Reply Message #764 of 819 |
Is Sydney far more advanced, tech-savvy, sophisticated and beautiful city than
Melbourne?
Is Sydney heads and shoulders superior to Melbourne? Isn't Sydney much more
cosmopolitan and international city?Or do you think Melbourne is not far behind?

Ans1. I struggle to see how Sydney is 'superior' to Melbourne in anyway.

"Advanced, tech-savvy" - anything tech. you can buy in Sydney is also available
in Melbourne - ANY TECH

"Sophisticated" - Sydney? Sophisticated? Compared to Melbourne? The only culture
most Sydneysiders are capable of is suburb snobbery, Hiltonesque-vanity and
buying more 'exclusive limited edition' fashion accessories.

Beautiful - Beauty is in the eye of the beholders, but take a good hard look at
Sydney, its been given over to real estate developers with ZERO thoughts for
public spaces

Ans 2.As a Sydneysider I should say of course! But to be honest both are very
similar though Sydney has a better nightlife scene than Melbourne. But we both
have exactly the same opportunities and technology

Ans 3.
Both Sydney and Melbourne are sophisticated. Each of them has their distinctive
beauty: Melbourne seems to be more cultural, with its more traditional
architecture and European feel.
Sydney has its amazing harbour, that is one of the most beautiful in the world.
Lots of nice coves and bays with amazing views. Then the two icons: the Opera
and the Bridge that bring the harbour to life.
Sydney is probably more cosmopolitan, it is the gate to Australia and has more
international visitors.
But Melbourne is famous for its shopping experience, restaurants and bars.
Sydney has it beaches and surf. And its fare share of fashion and shopping.
Tech savy? Most technology companies and banks have their headquarters in
Sydney.
It is all about preferences, it is difficult to say that one is superiour to the
other. But weather is much better in Sydney.

Ans 4.
No, Melbourne is way ahead of Sydney with technology, ha s a far more
sophisticated population, but Sydney harbour and Port Philip Bay are pretty mush
on a par.
The weather in Melbourne is much better, it's always raining in Sydney, next to
Hobart it's the wettest capital in the country.

Ans 5.
No way in hell. Melbourne is better than Sydney.

- Melbourne was designed by engineers and architects. Sydney was designed by
criminals. As a result, Melbourne has a beautiful grid layout, while Sydney's
layout is a nauseating rollercoaster which makes people sick.
- Melbourne is the FASHION capital of Australia (Melbourne Spring Fashion Week,
Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival)
- Melbourne is the SPORTING capital of Australia (Australian Open, Australian
Grand Prix)
- Melbourne is the SHOPPING capital of Australia (Chadstone Shopping Centre in
Melbourne is the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere)
- Melbourne does not have ugly beach riots like Cronulla in Sydney
- Melbourne's Crown Casino kicks Sydney's Star City's ass
- Melbourne has the Eureka Tower - the tallest residential building in the
world!
- Melbourne doesn't have a stupid monorail that only adds to the headache that
is Sydney's CBD
- Melbourne's trams are beautiful (e.g. City Circle Tram) whereas Sydney's
monorails are just downright ugly!
- MCG is bigger, more sophisticated and beautiful than the SCG
- Sydney is only sophisticated in chaos, whereas Melbourne is sophisticated in
its beautiful European 19th-century style archeticture and botanical gardens
- Sydney Harbor Bridge is the most overrated piece of junk metal in mankind. And
whoever designed the Sydney Opera House is a disgrace. The fact that the Sydney
Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the same category as the
Stonehenge says it all.
- Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is a beautiful and sacred place, which is
why ANZAC Day observances are held in the most beautiful and sacred Australian
city - Melbourne
- University of Melbourne is, has, and always will be Australia's No. 1
institute for engineering, science and technology
- Sydney thinks it's an "international city" because of the tourism from the
Olympic Games. Little do they know that when the IOC president called the Sydney
Olympics "the best games ever" he was just joking. Melbourne was the first
Australian city to host the Olympics.
- Sydneysiders will also retort about being the "financial capital" of
Australia. Then why do 7 out of the top 10 Aussie companies have their
headquarters in Melbourne: BHP, Telstra, ANZ, Coles, Myer, NAB and FOSTERS
- The only thing Melburnians love more than living in the "World's Most Liveable
City" is telling that to someone from socially corrupt, disease infected, dust
storm prone, violent, polluted Sydney

Ans 6.
No, in terms of tech-savviness, all Australian capital cities are pretty much
the same.

Sydney, however is a much better place to live than Melbourne.

Why? It just is. Is the Pope a Catholic? Is the ocean made of water? Is the sun
hot? Is Sydney better than Melbourne?

The answer to all these questions is emphatically and undisputably yes.

Ans 7.
I have lived in other cities in Australia and always came back to Melbourne. It
is just a FANTASTIC city with everything Sydney has and more in my opinion.
It was voted 3rd most live-able city in a study a few yrs back.

Ans 8.
Ha, this is an amusing but appropriate question. People from Melbourne are
constantly trying to compare their city to Sydney. If you go to Melbourne and
say you are from Sydney, be prepared for snide ugly remarks about how it must
suck living in Sydney and sure you would want to live there kind of attitude,
they really have a fair dinkum complex, but the moment you mention that
Melbourne is nice they suddenly change their tune and get all friendly. If you
are in Sydney and say you are from Melbourne, people will generally say "oh
that's great, what part are you from" basically because Sydney doesn't have a
complex and don't bother comparing themselves to Melbourne all the time. Having
said that, they are both "Australian" cities and both have the same
advancements. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you like Architecture you
will like Melbourne, if you like Harbours and beaches you will like Sydney, each
has their own sense of beauty. I have found that people wise, Sydney has more
feril people in the street asking you for money and annoying you, I feel a bit
more left alone in Melbourne which has more of a classy feel about it
