www.atlantajugglers.org is our own domain name. We also have a
forwarding URL www.juggler.net/aja from Patrick. Both URL's work.
Unfortunately you can't address the individual page directly since both
are forwarding URL's. Hosting a domain name is more expensive and not
worth the extra dollars.

Ditto! Even though I live near Toni and Tucker is convenient, I do not want to
break the tradition of Tuesdays in L5P.

Keith, et al,

Let me register an objection to fracturing the local juggling community by
starting an alternative meeting competing with the long established (26 years)
AJA meeting on Tuesdays. (Even though I live in Stone Mountain, I don't find it
that difficult to drive into Little Five Points to attend Tuesday-Thursday
meetings when I choose to--and since I work downtown, often I just stay in town
until meeting time on those days so as to avoid the drive out and back in
again...just a suggestion for the long-distance commuters.)

And, yes, I understand that the Tucker space is available only on Tuesdays,
which to me makes it not a possibility at all
Maybe an informal poll will tell something: Who is willing to attend Tucker
Tuesdays? (and where do you live?) i.e.:

I wouldn't be going anyway, since I live on the north side of town.

It WOULD be better if it was a different night. Some of you may
remember that we had a Wednesday night meeting in Sandy Springs for a
while, though it's been several years.

I live in Tucker, but I would prefer to drive to Atlanta where there is a larger
group. Nothing personal.

For a few years now I have been trying to start weekEND meetings (not
conflicting with other meetings) at centrally located
parks. And it was just starting to catch on too, but then my schedule changed
(I wish someone would try to keep the
park think going, until I can pick it up again).

As far as being fractured goes, there are already several meetings around town,
and it seems to me there is little crossover
in jugglewrs (except at GHD). We have the EATUS, I think there is a club at GA
TECH, and I know there used to be one
at GA State. Randy had one in sandy springs years ago. All in addition to
the tue/thu in L5P.

If you have a JUGGLING meeting, please send me the info (I suspect most of us
dont kow about other meetings going on).
I would like to put out an automated monthly post to this list, on who is
meeting where... and when... Last time
I asked, no one replied.

There used to be a festival in Tallahassee around my birthday (end of april).
But there was some politics, and it went
away (it was at a university aslo, and so needes a student juggler to push it).
I wish they would revive this one.

I got married at this festival, by the Minister Professor Dave. I cant
remember which time though. Thanks to Andy
and a few others who stopped juggling for a few minutes, LOL.

OK wait a minute here. I have no objection to a new juggling club in
Tucker on Tuesday nights. Atlanta continues to support several other
juggling clubs without noticeable effects on our attendance. This is
not a zero-sum game. The number of jugglers in Atlanta is not static,
and if some few people discover juggling in Tucker all of us can only
benefit.

When I started fencing in 1986, there was essentially one fencers club
in the metro area. Now I am aware of five. The result has been more
tournaments and more fencers. You can now fence a couple of tournaments
a month through most of the year in without driving beyond the SMSA. I
still belong to the same club, and it is now the oldest and largest in
Atlanta, with a better space and more fencers than ever before.
Competition is good. More juggling groups are good. We should welcome
Keith's effort.

Right on Charles! I agree whole heartedly, my vote simply meant that given a
choice between L5P and Tucker on Tues I'm going to L5P. -J

Keith, et al,

Let me register an objection to fracturing the local juggling community
by starting an alternative meeting competing with the long established
(26 years) AJA meeting on Tuesdays. (Even though I live in Stone
Mountain, I don't find it that difficult to drive into Little Five
Points to attend Tuesday-Thursday meetings when I choose to--and since I
work downtown, often I just stay in town until meeting time on those
days so as to avoid the drive out and back in again...just a suggestion
for the long-distance commuters.)

And, yes, I understand that the Tucker space is available only on
Tuesdays, which to me makes it not a possibility at all.

Maybe an informal poll will tell something: Who is willing to attend
Tucker Tuesdays? (and where do you live?) i.e.:

NO to Tucker Tuesdays/ Toni Shifalo/ Stone Mountain

From a computer security mailing list, no less. He's wrong about the
difficulty of riding a uni though.

***

In 1992 a young South African named David Vos was preparing for his
Ph.D. in aeronautical engineering at MIT. His dissertation project was
to build a guidance system that would let a unicycle propel itself,
with no rider. I have seen a videotape of his presentation. On an
arctic day in Boston a shaggy, tired-looking graduate student in a ski
jacket (Vos) hovers inches away from a unicycle, ready like a parent
to reach out and support it. But the unicycle keeps itself erect and
propels itself around a basketball court, responding to commands from
something on top that looks like a cake box.

The mechanism inside the box was Vos's achievement: a system of
inertial sensors and quick-response motors that could detect changes
in the unicycle's balance eighteen times a second and issue the right
corrective command. A tricycle is of course inherently stable, and a
bicycle has a kind of stability when moving. But because a unicycle is
always trying to fall over, most people cannot react quickly enough to
control it, and no mechanical device had previously been able to.

Which weekend will the festival be next year?  GH Day is on Sunday, so that weekend would be Jan. 31-Feb. 2.  Is that it or is it the first full weekend in Feb. which would be Feb. 7-9?  I want to put the dates on the web site now and get it listed on the JIS.

In previous years, we've gone with the earlier date. From a purely selfish point-of-view, the latter date might work better for me in 2003. Thanks for getting on this so soon.

Hi all,

I agree with Charles and Meredith about the new club in Tucker. I find it
hard for me to get to Little 5 Points. I probably would not make it to Tucker
that often either, but it's nice to have a choice, plus would be helpful to
promote juggling in any arena. Perhaps new people would find out about it
there, then come to L5P for the larger meetings.

I agree with this train of thought. If he wants to do it, go ahead... and
hopefully it can get mnoved to a non-conflicting
day later. I will also still go to L5p, but if it ends up on another day, I
would drop in.

There are clubs all over right now, so whats one more. Many times people want
to jugle with a specific partner, and
in this case, this would just be one more venue in which to meet.

I think I've got my boss sold on getting some yo-yo's sporting my
company's logo. I've sent an email to Infinite Illusions and am
waiting to see what they say.

Maybe Bruce would be the best to answer this one.

Hey Bruce! Where do you get the DVO yo-yo's made?

Talked to Greg at Infinite Illusions. If anybody's interested, it
costs 5$/ea for customized Proyo II's.

Aloha everybody,
It's your old pal Cap'n Mike ...
Just wanted to chime in about custom printed yo-yo's...
Depending on the quality of the yo-yo you want to give away,
There are good prices to be had at:
Like less than $1.50/per.
I guess you get what you pay for.  Those Pro-Yo's are good but not many
folks can afford to give away a $5.00 yo-yo.

And sorry I missed The Festival this year ... it was a really busy weekend.
But I thought about y'all down there and I know we had a good group representing the Charlotte/Lake Norman area.
Take care,
Cap'n Mike

Who's going to which circus when????  There are three in town now and soon: Ringling, Universoul, & Big Apple.  I think I want to go to some or all...

And speaking of circuses:  the Bizzoso's are gathering this Saturday at the Beam on Glenwood Ave for a "show" featuring a version of the DeLuxe Vaudeville Orchestra & Papa Bizzoso himself Don Normando Ismay and local members of Alternate ROOTS.  Anybody have a juggling act you want to field test?

The Anglin Family will be at Big Apple Circus March 2 at 5:00 to see Emile Carrey perform along with Grandma. Does Ringling have a featured juggler this year?

I remember Cafe Bizzoso from Piedmont park (with the tango dancers on the roof).
If its after 6-7PM I might go to see
Bizzoso...is anyone else going. There is no time listed that I can find.

Is the Beam like a club (can I just show up).

I called the number, and got a website: www.mitsdance.org
- The recording said this was an open mike type show.

DIRECTIONS:
From Moreland, head towards downtown on Memorial.
Go about one mile... (pass a self storage)...
Take a LEFT at a light... onto glenwood/memorial connector...
This road deadends into glenwood... (RIGHT onto Glenwood)...
You will pass a HS on the left...
Then look for grey glencastle sign on RIGHT...
Turn right at this sign, and drive up the hill...
The Beam is located, at the back end of the middle building.

I went to the Friday session of this thang, and it was entertaining but NOT the Bizzoso of Piedmont Park--more a comedy review by the kids that study at this inner-city dance studio.  I was so enthralled however, that I completely forgot to ask Papa Bizzoso just who if anybody has signed up for tonight--so I'm going because 1)I'm in the band 2)I am Banana Bizzoso 3)I don't have a life anyway.

It starts at 8pm (more or less in the true Bizzoso fashion) and will go until every last Bizzoso has done so (more or less in the TBF).  It's free although, in the TBF, the hat is passed.  The Beam is a nice little auditorium with a dance stage (don't plan on torches or chainsaws).  As more or less members (in the TBF) of Alternate ROOTS thru Lenny & LaBanana & the DVO, AJA members are welcome to come try out material on stage if you want.
