It's a joke when you ask
the Police to measure the noise level.
Pete,
I think you should get your facts straight before you start throwing stones!! In fact the police do not measure noise levels, the Zoning Officers do. The police accompany them on these types of calls in case a situation develops that they cannot handle. The mechanism to get the noise level measured begins at the police department, because that's where the complaint comes in, the Zoning Officers are sent to the call to see if there is a problem and then take the appropriate action. Additionally, I can tell you from EXPERIENCE that noise complaints are followed up very aggressively in Newport, and if you look at the most recent statistical data you will find that noise complaints and violations have dropped drastically in the past several years. This just didn't happen by osmosis....it happened because the ordinance is being enforced quickly and aggressively. Now don't get me wrong...are there situations that fall through the cracks, most assuredly there are, but I would be willing to wager that for the most part the enforcement end of the deal is working fairly well and the stats bear that out. My point Pete, stop laying the blame at the feet of the police....they are the most convenient whipping boys when you're not sure where else to go. Get your facts straight my friend, I've have done the research, I lived it for over 20 years!
