Dear Liz,
A few facts you missed:
1. It was Liz Meyer who said she would make sure that IYRS would stay on the tax
rolls. She broke the promise, she interferes, all good citizens should run her
out.
2. O'brien's was decided because it was not that harmful. If you think the
neighborhood associations represent the true views of the neighborhood, guess
again. There was plenty of room for compromise and the neighbors chose not to.
3. If you want to be an insider, what a joke in this town with no local party
affiliate control, then all you have to do is play along. If you take a holier
than thou stance on every issue, you will lose
every issue.
4. This Council does not have the chemistry to make decisions ahead
of time as one body. If that were true, Harbor Hotel would have
passed the first time. What is interesting is that the individual
members react to the same stuff in the same way a lot of the time.
5. Kate Leonard lost 30% of the vote to an opponent who did not run
and was only in the race to benefit another candidate. I suppose
you could find somebody else besides Kate to make it almost
interesting. However, if you show up with Kate, she may not break
double digits.
6. Don't be mad you're not a Democrat. You've chosen a path of life that will
cause you to lose most of the time, especially locally in New England.
Newport's makeup is changing and the political landscape is going thru a major
shift.
Deal with it.
