Nothing in the results of the survey surprised me.
The survey seems useless as a guide for the council to determine how to
best govern. How could it? It totally avoids any inquiry into the
recipients' attitude toward taxes. It was aimed at measuring
recipients' attitude towards the quality and quantity of city services
and where and how the city should SPEND. No mention of saving or
reducing expenses. No direct or even indirect inquiry regarding the
efficiency of the city's spending. (Why indeed would a survey company
hired by a town council dare to question the value received for tax
dollars spent by that same council !!! ) The only mention of taxes comes
in the comments section where respondents are asked to voice comments
regarding matters other than those addressed by the survey. The survey
company needs to read thru the comments section, note how often taxes
are mentioned, reevaluate the survey and refund the city for its survey.
Better yet.---next time the council needs to commission a survey that
measures citizens' attitude regarding value received for tax dollars
spent rather than a survey that just asks what to spend on.
