This seems to me to be a no-brainer. Select the best available qualified
candidate who is interested in serving the children of Newport to the best of
his/her ability.

Certainly if there was ever a need for objectivity this selection is a prime
opportunity.

Politics, or the notion that if one came in "next" and therefore is "qualified
and deserving" should have no place in this selection process.
