DEDICATION OF HISTORIC MARKER AT KING PARK
Friends of the Waterfront (FoW)’s historic marker/visitors’ information
sign of Newport Harbor will be dedicated on Earth Day, April 17th, in King Park,
at 1000 AM. The sign, funded by a grant from the North Family Trust, has been a
long time coming, but FoW members will be pleased and should be proud of the
efforts of so many along the way. Scott Wheeler, as always, has provided
support and encouragement on behalf of Newport’s Parks and Recreation. Working
against wintry Spring weather, Scott and his crew installed the sign, erected
near the sidewalk opposite the Rochambeau enclosure. The marker will be a
tangible sign of the presence and contributions of the Friends of the Waterfront
to Newport Harbor. Thanks to all who worked diligently to complete this
project. After the dedication, FoW members and other citizens will participate
in the Earth Day cleanup of the shoreline, planned by the City and FoW’s intern,
Amity Mack, who has encouraged Salve students to join in this community effort.
Refreshments will be served.
