Re: city loans made by city - who knew about the program?   Message List

It appears to me that not much was known about these loans to begin with, and
information came out recently after a City Council meeting when Kathryn Leonard
questioned why Church Community Corp. was to be a beneficiary of the Community
Block Grant. At that point, one of the city administrators explained that Chruch
Community was administering the revolving loan program for the city. I had a
little item about this in the News section of www.insidenewport.net because I
was surprised so little was known about these loans. When I reported on
Massachusetts towns, such as Millville, for a daily newspaper in Central Mass.,
the town took ads in the local paper once a year and had info sessions on how to
apply for the loans. Strange that Newport could spend all that dough sending
everyone a letter with two tickets to the landfill that I still can't figure out
how we need, but not a word about the loans.
