Newport Public Education Foundation (NPEF) will be showcasing some of the exceptional Teacher Excellence Projects funded by NPEF during the current academic year on Thursday May 13, 2004.
In addition, NPEF will recognize Volunteers in Newport Education's Roberta Emerson and Lorna Lewis, for their educational contributions to the community. These talented and hardworking women will be the first ever 'Friend's of Education' award recipients.
For over thirteen years, NPEF has encouraged Newport public school teachers to apply for funding to offer their students special enrichment programs not otherwise thinkable due to budget restraints.
Funding received from NPEF enlivens curriculum with special equipment, musical programs, research projects and field trips. The Excellence Grants have taken students further into the subject matter by adding the extras that leave a lasting impression.
Underwater robotics, mummification and embalming, Newport cultural history, and African literature are among the projects to be showcased.
The event will take place at the La Forge Casino Restaurant, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13th. Tickets are $15 each or 2 for $25, available at the door, or via NPEF, PO Box 1237, Newport For further information go to www.OurNewportSchools.org
