HARBORWALK DEDICATION
Friends of the Waterfront encourages the community to attend the Harborwalk
dedication, on Saturday, May 8, at 11 AM, in King Park.
Several years ago, Vic Farmer, FoW's former president, suggested the Harborwalk
idea to Councilor Kate Leonard, an activist for preserving open space and public
access to the waterfront. When Councilor Leonard mentioned this need to
benefactor, Mrs. Dorrance Hamilton, she established a foundation and generously
donated $180,000 to enhance King Park public access to view our beautiful
harbor. This handsome paved part of Harborwalk, connects to the public easement
to the east end of King Park, leading to Coddington Wharf pocket park, a
waterfront "secret garden." Newport residents will enjoy this leisurely walk
along the waterfront in this southern end of town.
