Fabianus sodalibus S.D. praesertim Christophoro et Vaughan

Christophore, gaudium est te novisse. Ego literaturam studens in Francogallia
Hispanicam, Esperanticam, Germanicam, Latinam, Arabicam... Ha, et mihi placet
musica classica.

Vaughan, cum roges mendas tuas indicare conor:
*in Nova Zealandia
*Novum Eboracum, si Eboracum neutrum est.
*Formula "scire + infinitivus" mihi dubitata videtur. Forsitan melius "possum
loqui" ?
*Russice, Italice,... Italice (scripturas mendae ;))
*mater mea

(M. Tulli Ciceronis "De Rei Publica" I:27)

"Vincere scis, Hannibal, victoria uti nescis" (Titi Livi "Ab Urbe Condita
Libri", XXII:51.4)

"Sive tamen Graeca scierit, sive ille Latina voce loqui" (P. Ovidi Nasonis
"Tristia" III:8)

"quod not est infiniti operis, si [praeceptores] docere sciant et velint" (M.
Fabi Quintiliani "Institutio oratoria", X:19)

Cura ut valeas.

Vaughan Jacksonus S.P.D.

Avete, omnes! Novus interretiarius (hoc grege) sum. Magister Anglici sum, et
quoque Latinum et Anglicum in mea doma doceo. Sesquiannum Latinum docui. Domo

Hi, everybody! New user here. I'm an English teacher and I also am teaching
Latin and English in my home. I have taught Latin for a year and a half. I'm
self-taught in Latin, and still learning, so corrections to my Latin are
appreciated. I have also studied French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Solommodo paucum exercui Latine scribere. Exercebo Latine scribere magis in
epistolis meis et exspecto discere vobiscum. Volo posse literaturam Romanam
classicam legere, quoque Latinum tardium scriptum, inclusio scripta moderna. Iam
lego Sacram Bibliam Vulgatam Latine satis bene. Quoque volo magis Latinum
colloquii discere loqui.

I have only practiced writing in Latin a little. I will be practicing writing
Latin more in my posts, and I look forward to learning along with you. I want
to be able to read classical Latin literature as well as Latin written later,
including modern writings. I already read the Latin Vulgate Bible fairly well. I
also want to learn to speak more conversational Latin.

Etiam linguam Latinam discere, mihi placet historia Romana culturaque discere.
Item mihi placet vitae Romanorum celebrium discere, coque ut vixerunt plebes.

Besides learning the Latin language, I enjoy learning about Roman history and
culture. Also I enjoy learning about the lives of famous Romans, as well as how
ordinary people lived.

Communua mea altera conplectuntur ascriptiones diarii scribere; studium Bibliae;
linguas Bibliarum Graecum, Hebraicum, et Aramaicum;

My other interests include blogging; Bible study; Biblical Greek, Hebrew, and
Aramaic;

Christophor, Ciao. Come Va? Bene?

I am disappointed, Christopher, that you have not replied to me on this forum.
Do you look down upon me because I am a novice at Latin? Why do you view me with
disdain?

Pax Vobiscum,

Valete,

Vaughan Jackson.

Vaughn--I believe I did respond to what you wrote, and no, I do not look down on
you becuause you are a novice.  My understnading of this group--and please
correct me if I am in error on this is to practise Latin and to hepl those who
are struggling with the language.  If you like, I will write to you in English
so that you no longer feel excluded, and if you have any questions about Latin
grammar, syntax, etc., you can ask me; I will do my best to help you as best I

Vaughan Jacksonus S.P.D.

Avete, omnes! Novus interretiarius (hoc grege) sum. Magister Anglici sum, et
quoque Latinum et Anglicum in mea doma doceo. Sesquiannum Latinum docui. Domo

Hi, everybody! New user here. I'm an English teacher and I also am teaching
Latin and English in my home. I have taught Latin for a year and a half. I'm
self-taught in Latin, and still learning, so corrections to my Latin are
appreciated. I have also studied French, Italian, and Portuguese.

Solommodo paucum exercui Latine scribere. Exercebo Latine scribere magis in
epistolis meis et exspecto discere vobiscum. Volo posse literaturam Romanam
classicam legere, quoque Latinum tardium scriptum, inclusio scripta moderna. Iam
lego Sacram Bibliam Vulgatam Latine satis bene. Quoque volo magis Latinum
colloquii discere loqui.

I have only practiced writing in Latin a little. I will be practicing writing
Latin more in my posts, and I look forward to learning along with you. I want to
be able to read classical Latin literature as well as Latin written later,
including modern writings.

Communua mea altera conplectuntur ascriptiones diarii scribere; studium Bibliae;
linguas Bibliarum Graecum, Hebraicum, et Aramaicum;

My other interests include blogging; Bible study; Biblical Greek, Hebrew, and
Aramaic;

Christophor, Ciao. Come Va? Bene?

I am disappointed, Christopher, that you have not replied to me on this forum.
Do you look down upon me because I am a novice at Latin? Why do you view me with
disdain?

Pax Vobiscum,

Valete,

Vaughan Jackson.

Vaughn--I believe I did respond to what you wrote, and no, I do not look down on
you becuause you are a novice.  My understnading of this group--and please
correct me if I am in error on this is to practise Latin and to hepl those who

Salvete Omnes,

If you are interested in finding others to talk to in Latin, a new sub-group has
been started on schola - SKYPE this is really just a list, where you put your
skype uername, location, etc, so others can add you as skype friends. This is a
self administering system,( so much better than old fashioned static webpages
that had to be looked after so much) so just sign up, if you want....and enter
your details as described... and if someone wants to phone you to chat in Latin,
they'll know how to find you - in other words, we are building an address
book......

Dear friends,
I m starting a new series of meeting at a cultural association. The meetings
will have an author reading his own work. I tried to find out a Latin name. A
short and easy one should still make sense of the meeting. Having discussed with
a friend of mine, we have come up with two proposals:
IPSE LEGE or PROPRIAM LEGE
I have departed from  the famous sentence "nosce te ipsum". Well, I kindly ask
your great opinions and reactions to both proposals above. If you have another
suggestion, I appreciate it also so much.

Hello Cenap:

Here's my two-cents' worth.  "Ipse lege" would  mean in English "Read (it)
yourself", while "Propriam lege" is "Read your own".  I don't know what feminine
noun your 'propriam' agrees with. but I would have made it 'proprium'., to agree
with 'opus', 'work' i.e., "Lege proprium opus", i.e., "Read your own  work."

There must be many other possibilities. One, off the top of my head, is
"Florilegium Scriptorum/Auctorum/Operum", where 'florilegium' means .something
like 'bouquet (of flowers)' or 'pick': the '-legium' part (see 'collegium', for
example) meaning more 'selection'  than 'reading', though the second meaning
'reading' is derived from the first anyway {so it's something of a pun}.

I hope this helps.

Joannes

Salve Cenap,

How about "Recitat Auctor" or "Auctor Ipse"? I think you need to use "recitare"
rather than "legere" for reading aloud to an audience.

Sallia.

Having discussed with a friend of mine, we have come up with two proposals:

> I have departed from the famous sentence "nosce te ipsum". Well, I kindly
ask your great opinions and reactions to both proposals above. If you have
another suggestion, I appreciate it also so much.
