Hello. There are many wooden kits to be had for boats and ships. Some are fiendishly simple. Others seem to have been designed to torture even the most patient wood workers. If using a kit, I would start with something very simple. Later, if you wish, you can always add more parts to it. Also, there is nothing wrong with combining wood and plastic parts. In model making, there is some good in both materials. If you have any skill in basic carpentry, get a simple plan and just make the parts for it. I do a lot of model making, but I do even more toy boats. Toy Boats are nothing more that simpler models with thicker, stronger parts. Go to a hobby shop or novelty store and look around. Do not be afraid to make mistakes, or to experiment a little. This can be a good thing, also
