As a kid, I drooled over Dumas' kits in the local pharmacy/hobby shop, and
could never afford them. I recently discovered that many of those old kits are
still in production (or perhaps back inventory still available). Compared to
many of the ARF "kits" on the market today, the Dumas kits (and instructions
therein) leave much to the imagination of the builder. For someone who
wants more of a challenge than an ARF styrene model, but still wants to get
the finished product wet, these oldies-but-goodies would be great.
But, I expect that among new modelers (and a few of us older ones) some of
the skills (and logical leaps) required to construct one of these kits might be
challenging. I've built dozens of planes (RC and free flight), several RC cars,
and a couple ARFs, and I still had quite a few "Duh?" moments in my (on-
going) effort to build Dumas' Tuna Clipper. When I went out looking for help, I
found most groups were either oriented toward static scale modeling, or
throttle-to-the-firewall offshore racing. So I decided to see if there were any
other people out there somewhere between who dug these old kits.
Hope to see you there,
Jim
