The DCC Decoder list (courtesy of Barry Bryant) at NscalePage has been updated.

It includes the four most common decoder brands and 21 model brands, covering more than 200 specific models. The Gopher Models 48/830 class diesel, which has a cut-out to suit the small TCS Z2 decoder, will be included in the next update.

You can view the list at - http://users.picknowl.com.au/~nscalepage/DCCdecoders.pdf

Steve,

Email sent to attendees on 23 July from the Convenor stated - extract "Due to some extreme events since the Convention, we have not yet produced the CDs as promised.  We should have the CDs underway and in the post very soon.  My apologies for the delay, but they are coming."

G'day Komata,
This is a bit of a quiet site, but you are more than welcome here. After all, NZ is ALMOST a part of Australia!!  (You are probably closer to Sydney (where I am) than some of our Perth friends!
What exactly are you modelling? NSW? NZ?
I look forward to your contributions.

Thanks for the welcome

To answer the question: What exactly are you modelling? NSW? NZ?

This will be a somewhat-long reply, but in answer, I am a 'Freelance' N-scaler
who has developed his own NZ-style version of 'N' (christened 'NZN-Freelance',
by a senior member of the local MR community). NZN-Freelance uses 1:148 (UK-N)
as its ruling scale, but combines US, UK and Japanese 'N' (along with OO/HO as
necessary) to create 'New Zealand Style trains in New Zealand style scenery',
This may sound somewhat pompous, but it should be remembered that the local
'full-size' railway gauge is 3ft 6in (think QR, WAGR), which makes using
conventional 'N' to reproduce the local railway somewhat difficult. I don't
model the NZ Government railways, but have developed a privately-owned
public-carrier railway system located in the western region (the 'King
Country') of NZ's nNorth Island. To do this has essentially meant that I have
had to create a full-sized railway (colours, loading gauge, rolling stock-types
etc, etc), then down-size it to 'N'. It seems to have succeeded and to date the
results have been exhibited several times to very favourable comment. In
addition to this I also model fictional gold mining tramways (light railways) in
a specific area of new Zealand, (again in NZN-Freelance) with particular
emphasis on technical accuracy, and have also successfully exhibited two layouts
based on this theme. And my interest in Oz railways? Basically, the Silverton
tramway, QR, WAGR and the various NG mining and timber tramways throughout the
country (esepcially the Mount Lyall system) have always had an interest, this
being helped-somewhat by a friend in Melbourne who models VR, and reinfored by
travelling over part of the VR system in July 2011. However,(FWIW)it is worth
noting that I was unable to purchase any 'Oz-N' rolling stock from the two
Central-Melbourne model shops during that visit!! Most frustrating, as I wanted
to bring a souvenir and to see how it looked on my own railway with a view to
possibly incorporating someOz rolling-stock into my system. I bought a book
instead!! Sorry about the waffle, but hope that this helps to establish where
I've come from. Thanks for asking.

All the guys here knew I was going to reply, didn't you?

I'm in Perth, WA and yes it is a long way there! My basic interest is in
Western Australian trains, WAGR (Or Westrail as it was known) so check out my
website at:
http://home.iprimus.com.au/nuggles58

NZ has a lot of Australian trains and wagons, so it should not be too hard to
do.

The N Scale Modeller on-line eMag publishing team is looking for regional photographers who would be willing to supply photos of N scale displays at exhibitions in Australia.

Photographers needn't necessarily be N scale modellers or even active modellers, just good photographers who take notice of N scale.
Photographers willing to volunteer would be listed in N Scale Modeller as members of the photography team. All photos published would contain photographer acknowledgement.

Adrian,

I think it is cause the other N scale yahoo group were happy for non Aussie Prototype users to be on and talking about small stuff on N scale in general. But still acknowledging that Aussie N scale Prototype was the main focus of the Australian N Scale group.

I could be wrong but that is what I felt from the members of the Australian N scale group were saying towards the e-mails.

Thanks for the 'purposeful' reminder of this group. I may assume then that most who I know model Australian prototype except for myself and Sarah's group. I only took on a bit od Australian outline because of T TRAK. I have more European and Japanese outline than any other, and still buy Japanese outline as their rollingstock has that 'generic' appearance and could be used in any part of the world, and the European I started out with back in 1971.
Will keep better contact with this group if anyone else is contributing.

OK. Lets get things started.

I have found a coffee table with a glass top which I intend to use for a coffee
table layout. No, it won't be Australian, but probably American outline, but
with a feel of Australian too.

I have a tight area to work with. It is 1.12m x .7m x .2m high, so I am limited
to what I can fit in. It also required a few tight corners so small loco's are
the only motive power on this, such as a SW1200 or GP20's.
I found a track plan in one of the latest Model Railroader Magazines, liked it
and used it to plan the layout.

Most grades are about 2%, but one grade going to the upper level had to be 5%,
so 1 small loco with 3 wagons is all it will take.
I have also made the points operative from the outside so when the layout is in,
you do not have to keep pulling it out to change the points. It's just a simple
push pull rod in a tube but works well.

I have a picture of the layout in the photo section (there you go Adrian, one
more! Hahaha) which I will put progress photo's in.

That would have to be the most 'complicated' coffee table design seen!! I thought coffee table track plans were all standard 'oval' or figure 8 if you got really clever!
A small Bachmann GE44 or 70 tonner would work well on that.

I'm still investigating a 'fish tank' idea :/  (minus the water!)

I searched for the original plan and found that it was a HO 4x8 layout. As for
the coffee table being a figure 8, I wanted something different to the norm.

You know me, always want to do something different.

thought coffee table track plans were all standard 'oval' or figure 8 if you got
really clever!A small Bachmann GE44 or 70 tonner would work well on that. I'm
still investigating a 'fish tank' idea :/ (minus the water!) Adrian CTas

limited to what I can fit in. It also required a few tight corners so small
loco's are the only motive power on this, such as a SW1200 or GP20's.

in, you do not have to keep pulling it out to change the points. It's just a
simple push pull rod in a tube but works well.

Kind regards
