Subject: [NewEnglandCampaigners] Return to Bull Run

Hey all,
Things have been dead here on this listm but it is time to get moving into gear.  There was a great bunch on enthusiasm back in the winter about the RTM (or Return to Bull Run as I like to call it) event, and we signed ourselves up for a collective company at the event's Potomac Legion adjunct.

Now it's high time that we get our registrations in for the event and get our planning underway.  Bill Birney and Joe Bordanaro among others have been working hard to bring some special scenarios and surprises to the table and we need to show them that we are serious.

I've been laboring away at my Master's thesis, which has kept me pretty focused away from things CW, but I know that there are plenty of you itchin' to get going with the 2010 season.  Sooooo, let's get some discussion going about what we're going to do at the event, and let's get folks registered!

Take care,
Tom Craig

My name is Paul Kramarz and I'm "new" to ACW reenacting.

But, not reenacting as a whole. I've been doing WW2 for the past 3 years at what
is the WW2 equivalent of the "authentic/campaigner" style found in ACW
reenacting.

I have assembled a kit according to the recommendations of the AC forums, as
well as other campaigner friends down here in Gettysburg. (I'm a student at
Gettysburg College.) I also have several "Massachusetts specific" elements to my
kit, and multiples of everything to do most things post 1862.

I'm looking forward to this coming season as it is my first, and most of all I
am looking for groups to meet and events to attend. During the summer I return
home to CT, so it only made sense to come to this group for help.

That's just a little about me.

Welcome!

I know we are gathering at the end of August for the Return to Manassas gig.  Fellow Nutmeg Tom Craig has been mustering up some of us for the effort.  Should be a fun one and one to think about.

I dabble in WW2 myself and am wondering what events/units are considered more "authentic" in that time period?  I don't know nearly about WW2 so I'm curious.  I've done the Odessa event a half a dozen times as part of a rifle company that does the "event within an event" thing (i.e., we coordinate with Scott Thompson on where we can set up our own defensive positions away from the main camp and then join the event the next day).  Feel free to email me offline if you prefer.

Again, welcome!

Paul,
My name is Randy Pesut and I am a corporal with the 2D Conn Heavy Artillery, originally the 19th CT Vol Inf, when they enlisted in 1862.  Our impression is infantry and we are located in Woodbury, CT.  I am also the Executive Board Chairman for the unit.  Our captain is Ray Manzi and our First Sergeant is Vic Scalora.  If you want to know more about our unit, please feel free to call me at home, 860-583-5927 or on my cell at 860-597-0177.  I will be glad to answer any questions you have.  We have a good mix of men and ladies in our unit as well as some younger folks too.  In camp we are strictly military, as our civilian reenactors camp in Unity.  I hope to hear from you.  Thanks for expressing an interest in Civil War Reenacting.

Hey All,
I wanted to put another plug in for registration for Return to Manassas.  You can find the registration here:

All the registration for our part of the event will be handled through the Potomac Legion, not through the main event website.  The registration fee goes up effective June 1st, so now is the chance to save yourself some sheckles.

I attended the Potomac Legion board meeting last weekend in Gettysburg, and got a good update on the event.  A lot of work has been put into this thing, and they are really eager to get guys signed up for it.
Some of you may know that there was a little bit of political stuff happening with this event in the last few weeks, but that seems to have settled down, and the event appears to be on the right track.
As we start getting registrations in for our company we can better develop our plans and work on selecting officers and NCOs as well.
So, get off your back sides and register for this event, and tell your friends to do the same!
Take care,
Tom Craig

Welcome aboard Paul!

There are some great folks on this list who will be happy to help you out.  There are guys from a variety of units on here, and several of us who are more or less independents who fall in together at events.

Sadly there are limited opportunities for better events up this way, but people on this list have come together to put together campaigner opportunities at local events, and are working this year on putting together a New England company for the Return to Manassas event this summer.

If you've got any questions, feel free to ask.
Take care,
Tom Craig

Hey Gents,

The time has come to get serious about registering for Return to Bull Run (aka Return to Manassas-RTM).  The early registration discount ends on June 1st, and after that the cost ramps up to $30.  The command staff for our adjunct is really eager to get registrations in so they can start getting a handle on what they need to do to get organized and provide rations for all who are coming.
If you aren't aware, the adjunct team has been working pretty hard to pull this thing together.  Guys are coming from across the country to take part in this thing, including guys from WI to GA.  Skip Owens of the Southern Guard has signed on to lead the whole thing, so you can gather that the standards will be enforced and that it won't be some silly farbtastic experience.
We committed to raising a company of good men from New England, and now is the time to get our collective act in gear and make it happen so we can start planning for ourselves and work on raising the best company that we can get.
Registration links can be found on the website of the 5th NH, as well as the Potomac Legion.  Get signed up!  The first guy to get 15 of his authentically minded friends to sign up gets two home made pies at the event, and a bottle of brandy to go with it!
All for the Union,
Tom Craig

Hey all out there in the land of lobsters and granite!  Return to Manassas is coming up quick, and the command staff of our adjunct are getting anxious about figuring out numbers etc.

I've been told that some of you have registered for the event through the regular registration for the event.  If you have registered for the event already, or if you are planning to soon, please let me know so I can pass up a head count.  You can either email here on the list, or send me an email offline at: tom.craig@...

Hey All,
That makes three that I have confirmed registered, and I was told that there are at least two others who went and registered through the regular event registration process.  If you've signed on already, speak up.
Registration for EVERY event has been very slow this year, and this gig is no different.  About a quarter of people who said they were coming have actually registered,  but that should pick up if the trend holds.
If you are going, get registered as soon as possible so the folks planning this thing can move forward with their planning for the best event they can bring us.
Take care,
Tom

Gentlemen-

Addressing 3-4 company commanders in this email.  Hoping to get the notice out to our 4th commander for the event!

Let me tell you how motivated I am to be in the position that I am, I hope that you are too.  I want to appreciate the hard work that the staff has placed into this event.  Couple things that are being worked that you might not be aware of:

-We will participate in the Friday and Sunday battles as the 26th was not in the scenarios being portrayed sat.
-Sat we will come off Picked from Friday night once relieved by Division- Breakfast, drill, then conduct Living history around the house.
-Sat evening we will move from a reserve position, once relieved to conduct a march representing the original march the 26th conducted the night before the Chinn Ridge fight.
- Friday we will Pickett with the CS, as the Division detail to do so.
-All orders will be written as with all replies.
-full commissary for the weekend

Hope this will help entice people register for the event, again most importantly the commissary needs to get items ordered

Please feel free to call me if you have any questions-

Unless something changes dramatically in the next week, I'll be unable to attend RTM.  If someone from Maine is going who needs someone to help with gas and tolls, then it's possible, but otherwise I'll have to sit this one out.  Until business picks up, I just don't dare spend the money on hobby stuff.

Hey All,
I hate to keep sounding like a broken record, but we need to get moving forward on registrations.  I know that folks have a lot of real world issues that are holding them back on registering, but I also know there aren't a whole heck of a lot of events out there this season.
This event will offer us a chance to field a company of men from New England.  It's a chance to all come together for once and to see what we can do.  The event will feature a ration issue, a fence made for us to destroy, some neat scenarios that have been planned out, some good interaction with the public, a good sized picket experience, and then some.  Get signed on and lets get this thing in gear!
If you've got any questions, please let me know.
Take care,

Hey All,
The registration deadline for RTM has been extended for a couple of weeks.  Registration had been slow, but was picking up, and the HQ didn't want to cut off folks who were eager to go, but slow to register.
Our New England company has ten guys committed to it.  We could really use a few more of you characters, at least 5 of you in order to keep our company position.  If you want to go, but haven't done so already, get registered.  The event excepts walk-ons, but the PL adjunct does not.  Registration can be found at: www.fifthnhvol.org  Registration closes August 15th!!
Take care,
Tom Craig

Rob,

Would you mind terribly if we put a hyperlink up on the 28th Mass website directly to Walter's Memorial page?  Todd asked that I do it, but I don't like to add links directly to pages within a web without the webmaster's permission.

Regards,

Joe "Diggah" Eversole

Gentlemen,
General Burbank has requested that we use wedge tents for the weekend.  Remember, we are still in 1861.  Also, due to the nature of the land, there will be no death march at this event.  Sorry lads.  I do have a couple of special ones in mind for the remaining events. :)
