Description

Welcome all who have an interest in the history of Ogley Hay and the surrounding locale, ie Brownhills, Clayhanger, Walsall Wood and Stonnall.

Here is a brief history of the area:
Ogley Hay is the largest of the five areas which would in the late 19th century form the township of Brownhills, ie The Manor of Ogley Hay, Part of the parish of Norton Canes, part of the township of Walsall, part of the chapelry of Hammerwich and part of the parish of Shenstone.
995 AD: the Manor belonged to the Monestry at Wolverhampton.
1086: in the Domesday Book Ogley Hay is recorded as HOCINTUNE (1 hide -waste. A hide = roughly 110-120 acres).
16th Century - Ogley Hay Manor was held by the family of Lord Stafford.

For those wishing to learn more about the area I can recommend 'Brownhills - A Walk into History' by Gerald Reece. Copies can usually be purchased from Walsall Local history Centre.

There are more details on my web site, also dedicated to these ares:
