Does anybody have any clue why it's called the Neutral Point when it's
on a plane but it's called a Center of Pressure when it's on a rocket?

BTW, loosening up up a little tonight and kickin' it old school by
sketching out BG wings and their NPs on tracing paper with a ruler.

No, but the last time I called, it went directly to voice mail without ringing,
which usually means it's turned off. And the voicemail was full.

While it is wise to be suspicious of these kinds of phishing emails, this one is
apparently legitimate. A quick Google search on "dk54321" shows that Daniel has
posted a number of times in the OldRockets group, as far back as 2002.

Sorry, Dan -- the discussion piqued my curiosity. Did you ever get your phone

Doug,

I would use the BNC-60AB. However, if you are concerned with using a resin
instead of balsa NC, you should look at this one:

Another common phishing technique is to get people to call a number that
redirects to an offshore number in the Caribbean where they bill your account
insane amounts per minute. Getting those charges dropped or reversed can be a
nightmare. It shows up on your account from your carrier as a legit call and
getting your carrier to anull it can be difficult. I don't know if this is a
scam still in operation, but it was a problem a couple of years ago. Presumably
since the phone companies and authorities have wised up to it, it may be a dead
ruse.

That's the part I don't get. I thought phishing was trying to get people to
reveal data that would allow access to their financial accounts--account
numbers, passwords, social security numbers, mother's maiden name, etc.

I understand "please forward this to everyone you know" can be used by spammers
to collect email addresses; that's why I don't send virus alerts (which are
always fake anyway) or "please forward this if you love Jesus" messages. I
didn't think about that before I sent the message. And I guess it would be one
way to collect a lot of phone numbers. But aren't there easier ways to collect

Not surprised about the prepaid cell company (they already got their money), but
the police attitude is quite improper. Go back to the cops and get a police
report, and don't take no for an answer. I'd contact whatever elected officials
are in control of this police department, and report them as unresponsive. With
GPS enabled phones, it should be pretty easy to track the thief!

And whoever said otherwise, ALL phones are now GPS enabled, even the prepaid
units. Unless you've still got a carrier that supports the old analog phones
there's nothing else out there. Tracfone (my prepaid carrier) dropped the analog
phone support several years ago.

I think I would also have a little talk with the manager of the store where your
phone was turned in to lost & found, then handed out to the wrong person. I've
lost a couple things like that recently, and stores checked my ID before
returning the items. They should have at least asked for a phone description or
the phone number before just handing it over to whoever asked for it.

there is alot of this email that seems phishy, sort of a generic email
e-dress, they didnt sign it with a real name, even a partial one.

Ive got other issues with it, like is this an eficent or effective way to
deal with a situation like this? Seems to me, the best way to deal with a
stolen phone would be to file a police report, and let the service provider
   know.

Just sounds like either a phone number telemarking expedention, or a way to

If you still have the phone manual, call the phone company and explain that your
phone
was stolen and give them your phone number, when you buy a new phone they can
transfer
your minutes and phone number to your new phone, the thief will not beable to
make calls.
If you have GPS activated the phone can be tracked. Good luck.

I was just pulling out of Wal-Mart's parking lot when I realized I didn't have
it. I went back in and retraced my steps, but couldn't find it. I checked with
customer service, but they said it hadn't been turned in. I gave them the number
and they called it, but no one answered.

I found a pay phone, called home, and told my wife. She tried calling my cell.
Someone picked up, but wouldn't talk. She called Wal-Mart, and they said the
phone had been found and someone had claimed it already. Apparently someone saw
the phone being turned in, and decided they wanted it.

It was a prepaid phone, and I only had about 60 minutes on it at the time, so
I'm not out that much. Once those minutes are gone, the phone will be worthless.
I'd like to burn through the minutes. If this number is a free call for you,
please call it. If enough people call, the minutes will be used up before the
thief has a chance to use many of them. Please pass this message and this number
on to your friends:

Also ten years after getting entangled on what became Fun Rockets. I
still can't believe that played out so badly.

Also 20 years after the first incarnation of InterStellar OverDrive.
Another pet project that I'm still a sore about getting killed before
it really had a chance to live.

Tonight, I showed off my old MPC kits at the Omaha Rocket Club
meeting. Now I can go on and build them. I'm amused by the coloring of
the plastic parts and the undersized tenons shared with the early
Quest kits.

OTOH, I was thinking about Canaroc. You don't hear much about them
here despite being wholly on topic. It seemed like they had some
really creative fantasy kits back in the day.

Dang! They mentioned orange paint over on an Allis Chalmers group and
I forgot to mention its uses in Model Rocketry. Well, it is a high
visibility color that's also period authentic for those Old Rockets.

Was working on some art for my web comic. Here's a work-in-progress
page that's part of a dream sequence drawn up to look like '70s comic
book art. It features a spaceship based on the Estes DOM Orbital
Transport Laboratory. Also a Major Matt Mason based space suit. And
some Kirby and some...

BTW, is it just me or does the Orbital Transport Laboratory have a
thick MOL groove to it?

OT, "there's an app for that":

Yes, another period pastiche. Sometimes I feel like an epigone....

RocketEngineer.bravehost.com and ARA Press announce that the final drafts are
completed to Rocket Science. The 910 page book by Dave Ketchledge is endorsed by
The Space Show and readers have been impressed by the depth and detail of the
CD/ Book. Propulsion, Aerodynamics , Structural Design, High Power and R/C are a
few of the topics along with Orbital Mechanics with space sim software to fly
the X-15, X-20 Dyna Soar, Apollo and Gimini spoacecraft. The additional NASA
reports cover Solid, Liquid and Nuclear rocket engines. The book is on the
cutting edge with a copy of the Augustine Commission report and commentary on
its impacts on NASA's future programs. Those at NARAM saw the early release from
ARA Press and many showed an interest. Get to know all the skills oif flight
mechanics and guidance control in this referance that is good today and into the
future.

I have had some success with the high heat engine paint under some aluminum
tape. (the type used to wrap furnace ducting) Also have used the tape to
protect exposed surfaces of B and C boost gliders.

Those type's of paint are good but, Lows sell a paint that can withstand
   temps of 1200 degrees +.
It's a paint that is used to refinish grills and other high temp fixtures.
It also wont flake off under high heat like some other paints out there.
Not sure what colors it comes in. I know they have black, red, silver and if
   I recall white.

You may want to try some automotive header manifold paint. it contains
ceramic that might be useful. Break caliper paint is good to 900 degrees and
motor paint is good to 500 degrees.

   Never tried them on rockets.

Is there still any heat shielding paint out there?
I remember buying a small bottle of it from Estes the first year I started
   rocketry.

I want to shield two strap on boosters of a 1st stge cluster that extend
(to hold recovery devices) beyond the 2nd stage.

1st stage - 3 side by side engines - centered booster - 2 sides delayed
   2nd stage - 1 engine - centered - delayed

   Thank Ya
