Description

HIGH TIDE WATCH:
Experience the HIGHEST TIDE of the Year!

MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 8:15 - 8:45 AM
The Kiss statue at Percival Landing, 4th Ave & Water St

Bundle up and join members of the Olympia City Council and Thurston County Commission as we contemplate a normal high tide and speculate on sea level rise. A tide of 17+ feet is expected to occur at 8:37 am.

Brief remarks by Thurston County Commissioner Karen Valenzuela, Olympia Mayor Doug Mah, and Olympia City Council member Joe Hyer at 8:30. Attendees are invited to join us for breakfast afterwards at a local restaurant.

MISSION STATEMENT
Olympia Climate Action is very concerned about disruption in our climate caused by the buildup of carbon in the atmosphere, and about diminishing global oil reserves. Our mission is to reduce the Olympia area’s carbon emissions to the National goal of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. To accomplish our mission, we will:

1. Educate Olympia area residents about the effects of climate disruption, peak oil, and energy security, and the cultural changes and technological alternatives that will mitigate those effects. We will do this through the sponsorship of community events and discussion groups.

2. Motivate Olympia area residents to take the individual and collective actions required to achieve the National goal by taking those actions ourselves, by building relationships and supporting the efforts of others, by developing community, and by promoting a vision of a sustainable, resilient, self-sufficient future with an overall improved quality of life for everyone.

3. Advocate policies that encourage conservation, emissions reduction, and the development of clean energy.

4. Have fun and enjoy the process.

Olympia Climate Action meets 7-9 pm the 2nd Monday of the month. For more information or to join the OCA listserve, contact Barb at 360-878-9901 or barb@scavezze.com
