Oh I missed your question, a DHV 1-2 as a first glider depends on your instructor. If you train with a USPPA type then you definitely want to stay on a DHV 1....

It probably has nothing to do with the batteries. More likely a loose connection somewhere, or a bad starter or your compression hole in the engine is clogged...
