Subject: DON'T MISS OUT ON THE DIXE CANYON YEARBOOK! DEADLINE 2/1/06
evelynegeha
Send Email Send Email

Get your orders ,money and tribute pages and photos in ASAP-DEADLINE
2/1/2006! A flyer/order form will be going home this week. Please
not that this will be the last notification to go home on the
yearbook.

We will be using Keyes Photos to do our first official school
yearbook! The cost of this year's yearbook is $20 per book. The
yearbook will be in black and white!(Clarification: Last year's book
was intended to be a yearbook but became more of a tribute/auction
book since we were unable to get permission from Keyes to use their
photos due to the time restrictions.)

CLASS PHOTOS/INDIVIDUAL STUDENT SHOTS: Every child will be
represented in the class photos the company took last month provided
the student came to school on Class Photo Day. Keyes also took
individual student shots of almost all the students whether you were
purchasing your child's picture or not. The yearbook committee
plans on having individual shots of the students whose pictures were
taken by Keyes. NOTE: Those students that did not make it to school
that day, were late or would not sit still for a photo did not have
their picture taken – it will be up to that student's parents to
provide a photo of their child to the yearbook committee if they
want their child to be represented in the yearbook. We will make
every best effort to include everyone but if you believe that your
child's picture was not taken, you will need to provide a photo to
the attention of Anna Mueller –Yearbook with the child's name, grade
level, room number and teacher name.

TRIBUTE PAGES will also be available for sale for $15 for ¼ page. A
limited amount of these pages will be sold so FIRST COME , FIRST
SERVE! This is where you can dedicate a ¼ page just to your child
(ren). Tribute pages can include pictures, designs, wording leaving
1 ½" on the left side. Please create your tribute page on a ¼ page
of an 81/2 X 11 sheet of paper. Remember, the yearbook will be in
black and white. Do not bend the tribute page please and make sure
to include your child's name, grade level, teacher name and room
number. Please deliver your tribute page starting NOW until the
2/1/2006 deadline in an envelope with your additional $15 check or
money order to Anna Mueller-Yearbook-Tribute Page.

ADVERTISING : We will be selling advertising space as well! If you
have a business or know of a business that may be interested in
advertising in this keepsake, please direct them to Evelyne Geha
geha@... or 818-839-8349 for ad rates and placement. We
need all ads submitted with artwork between NOW and the 2/1/2006
deadline. All advertising placement is up to the yearbook committee.
If you would like to help obtain ads, please contact Evelyne Geha as
well.

PHOTOS NEEDED! We need everyone to start submitting photos NOW
until the deadline of 2/1/06 from classroom events and parties,
grade-level field trips, school events and just everyday photos of
the students that our Dixie parents shoot. Please try to submit
photos that include 3-5 students which will allows more children to
be featured. Please make sure to list the names and grade levels of
those students that are represented in the pictures. Please attach a
separate piece of paper with this identity information and gently
tape or wrap it around the photos. Please do not write on the back
of the photos because the imprint of the writing may ruin the photo
and we will be unable to use it. Please put them in an envelope and
turn it into the PTA mailbox or to your child's teacher before
2/1/2006 addressed to Anna Mueller-Yearbook. No digital photos via
email or on a CD will be accepted. We need real printed photos!

NO PHOTOS WILL BE RETURNED! No emailed or digital photo CD's
please. Please put actual photos in an envelope addressed to Anna
Mueller-Yearbook and return to the PTA box in the main office or to
your child's teacher. Deadline for all pictures, yearbook orders and
tribute pages is 2/1/2006. Anything received in the PTA mailbox
after 2/1/2006 will not be considered. If you send your order,
tribute page or ad to your child's teacher on 2/1/2006, it may or
may not make it into the PTA box by the deadline-so please hand-
deliver it to the PTA box labeled "YEARBOOK" if it is nearing the
deadline to ensure your tribute page, ad and/or order is
considered. It will be up to the yearbook committee to decide which
pictures make it in the book based on quality. Please do not submit
photos that are blurred as the yearbook will be in black and white
and those pictures tend not to reproduce well.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to remind everyone that the DEADLINE for the yearbook
is 2/1/2006.

TRIBUTE PAGES:

Do you want to dedicate 1/4 page($15), 1/2 page($30) or full page
($60) ad just to your child(ren)? Be creative with warm and
encouraging thoughts to your children. Ad pictures, artwork,
borders, designs, wording leaving 1 1/2" on the left side. Tribute
pages are still available at this time.

The last notice just went home with your child. Don't miss out this
great opportunity!

Please create your tribute page on a ¼ page of an 81/2 X 11 sheet of
paper. Remember, the yearbook will be in black and white. Do not
bend the tribute page please and make sure to include your child's
name, grade level, teacher name and room number. Please deliver your
tribute page starting NOW until the 2/1/2006 deadline in an envelope
with your additional check or money order(depending on the size you
want) to Anna Mueller-Yearbook-Tribute Page.

ADDITIONALLY- Please send in any pictures you may have of the
happenings at Dixie Canyon between now and 2/1/2006.

Hello Everyone,

If you do not like the photo of your child that Keyes took or your
child missed school on picture day and the make-up day, you can still
submit a photo. We need these photos no later than Monday morning by
8:15AM. Please aattach a note explaining you are submitting this
photo to replace the class photo Keyes took so that it doesn't not get
mistaken for a general photo of happenings at the school.

We apologize for the late notice however, this was in the numerous
flyers/newsletters/email blasts that have gone home about the yearbook.

Thank you.....

Hello Everyone,
This is your last chance to get any pictures or ads or tribute pages
in to us by the 2/1/2006 deadline. Please submit everything to the
attention of Anna Mueller and put in the PTA box labelled "yearbook".

We were going to send out a flyer on tribute pages and it was
photocopying too dark. So, if you have any questions regarding
tribute pages, email me at geha@... or feel free to call
me at 818-839-8349.

All you have to do is lay out picutres on the size you want 1/4, 1/2
or full page and type in any names or sayings you want. Please make
sure it is camera-ready. NOTE: If you submit artwork with
handwriting and drawings that you have done your self versus a
computer, the committee wil have to photocopy those for the layout
and you may decrease the quality of your page.

Additionally, our PTA Membership Meeting will be held at 6PM on
Wednesday, February 1st in the school auditorium. We hope to see you
all there! Babysitting will be provided! An agenda will be going
out next week via email and will be posted in the main hallway at
the school. Thanks,

Thank you,

Please come out to VIVA Gallery tomorrow afternoon from 1-3pm to help celebrate
some of the wonderful art that Dixie students have made at school this year!
VIVA has
donated their professional gallery space to our school for the next 2 weeks, and
is
located at 13261 Moorpark St., Sherman Oaks, (818) 385-0080. All of the classes,
grades K-5, are represented so there is lots to see.

Parents, if you have committed to bringing food or beverages, please bring them
to
the gallery at approx. 12:45pm. Please note that although the gallery has lots
of
beautiful space inside, the parking is less than plentiful. Side street parking
is your
best bet.

This is a special treat for our kids - please take advantage of this opportunity
to see
the student's art in a gallery setting, and don't forget to tell a VIVA how much
this
show is appreciated.

Thank you!

on the Board have been doing this for 3-4 years, work full-time as
well and would like to stay involved but more in the backseat. Many
of us are getting burnt out and realistically will not be at Dixie
forever and would like to train some new people. We really need
some fresh new faces to take on some leadership roles (please don't
let this frighten you away either! We are just looking for
responsible and dedicated people that can give their time to
organize and arange events and fundraisers that benefit the entire
Dixie student body. You will have help and support). We have created
great processes to streamline things and have come a long way from 4
years ago. To be quite frank, the reality is if no one steps up, we
are at risk of losing all the wonderful programs we have such as
Art, Drama, PE, Computers etc. We would like to consider bringing a
Science Lab next year as well. Please let me know if you have an
interest and would like to learn more about it. I am available to
speak to any of you - anytime.

FEW MORE THINGS:

1. Looking for someone who can write a grant for Starbucks for Art.
It is due on March 13th and it was just brought to my attention. See
the link at www.starbuckscalgiving.com. If you write well and have
an hour to spare to do this, please let me know ASAP.

2. The Walk-A-Long will be postponed until sometime in May so as not
to conflict with the Spell-A-Thon currently going on. Details will
be coming.

3. Volunteers needed to organize the food fundraiser for Open House
4/25. The last few years we have had In-N-Out and we have them
scheduled that night again but need someone to step up and help with
this. I can walk you through the entire process. The current Board
is strapped right now with the current fundraisers and the Auction
and we need help! If no one steps up, we will have to reconsider
having no food at Back To School Night. With the Scholastic Book
Fair happening the same night we will not be able to do both without
some parent volunteers to take this on. If you can help, please let
me know ASAP.

4. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the Scholastic Book Fair 4/24-4/28. We are
requesting that volunteers take 2 hour shifts starting 8AM - 2:35
(Tue 1:34) and also 5-7PM on 4/25 for Open House. If you can help,
please let me know your time preference.

4. 30 Yearbooks still for sale. 30 Survival Kits remain. Limited
amount of Dixie sweatshirts, tshirts and double-sleeve tees
available. See the styles, quantities and sizes in the glass cabinet
in the main hallway. First Come , First Serve!

5. Revision to the PTA agenda for March 15th: Principal Blum wil be
speaking briefly about School Safety.

6. AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED! When you visit any store, salon,
restaurant - ask to speak to the Manager and ask if they can donate
something to your school Auction (4/29th). You will be amazed how
generous people are if you just ask!

As a final note, please consider donating your time even if for just
one hour. If everyone gave one hour a week, think how much we could
accomplish collectively instead of the same small core group of
people doing all the work! There is a lot involved in fundraising
and it is an entirely different job to spend it wisely! Let us know
what you can do to help! Your children will love you for it!

Thanks to our mall program coordinator, Barbara Tillis, Dixie Canyon came in 2nd place out of 21 local participating schools (private and public) in the Westfield Mall Shop For a Cause Program.

Our overall prize money totals $1570.  Come to the PTA meeting this Wednesday at 6pm to have your say in how you think the money should be spent.  Last year it went to teacher supplies and PE equipment for the kids!  The mall stipulates that $785 of the money must be spent at the Westfield Shopping Mall, so we are limited somewhat with what we can do.

Thanks to all of you and your families who helped us win 2nd place by taking time to get receipts stamped and of course showing up at the mall and turning in your vouchers.
