I won't be able to make the meeting, but I'm planning to go to KidsFest.

KidsFest Items:
1. Logistics (ride sharing, lodging, MOC transportation plans): Who's driving?
Who's riding? For that matter, who's going? Have we heard anything more from
Steve about how we connect with him/Lego?
2. Events/activities: I understand there's nothing in the evenings. I guess
Steve hinted at a possible visit to the Enfield facility- have we heard anything
more about that? Also, I've been in indirect contact with some of the NELUG guys
about playing BrikWars one evening. Is anyone else interested?
3. MOCs/collaboration: I'll have a few spaceships that can hang out with Chris'
sci-fi work. I understand there's also a town/train layout, a small post-apoc
section, and possibly a moonbase. Am I missing anything? I have my micropolis
modules still together, if others want to build some (standard is here:
http://twinlug.com/micropolis-micro-city-standard/) we could have a pretty
decent layout.
4. NELUG collaboration: Is anyone from PennLUG in touch with anyone from NELUG?
This might help us if we can connect with each others' work.

Let me know what the discussion yields!
David

I'll be there for sure. What's the parking situation like at your place. I might
snag a zipcar for the day so I can bring a bunch of stuff. KidsFest still isn't
looking good given my schedule (PhD exams will be that week and weekend, I
think).

I'll bring mine for sure. Right now the M motor is hooked directly to the fan
(seems to be the only way to cram it in there). The issue I see is that even on
the lowest speed setting, it moves a bit too fast. Maybe we can find a way to
limit the incoming voltage or something. I just wanted to put that out there
before the meeting so we can give it some thought,

the fans are going to be wired to a regulator so speed control sholdnt be a
problem.

I have off that day and would like to attend.

By the way, there is something happening in Lego stores on the same day to
celebrate the release of the upcoming Lego Star Wars Visual Dictionary book. I
found out about this from Joe Meno on facebook. Here's what it said:

Host:
LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary
Type:
Other - Retail
Network:
Global
Date:
Saturday, October 10, 2009
Time:
11:00am - 5:00pm
Location:
Nationwide
Description
Fans will enjoy meeting and taking pictures with the StormTroopers of the 501st
Legion and other STAR WARS characters. This public event will include giveaways
such as posters, stickers, LEGO product, limited-run LEGO STAR WARS postcard
packs, and other freebies.

Fans of all ages are invited to attend and collectors will particularly enjoy
being one of the first to purchase LEGO STAR WARS: The Visual Dictionary,
packaged with an exclusive Celebration Luke Skywalker Minifigure!
-end quote

So it's going to be nationwide at Lego stores. As to whether or not it will be
at the KOP store, I don't know. Haven't checked yet. But I think it would make
for an interesting meeting. Plus, since Chris lives nearby, we could make it
work. And there's free goodies. :-)

I would be interested in the opened blue/green one. .. even tho it is a 2x3 and not a 2x4. ( 2x4 blue bricks.....gotta catch em all) Normally I would be interested in all of them, but buying into this big collection has really drained my cash. KC

Seen it this morning and I'm super excited. For years the Pirates had the
biggest ships on the sea and the Imperials had the dinky smaller ships. Hardly a
challenge for swashbuckling pirates to raid. But now the tables have turned.

This ship looks so awesome!

I don't know about PennLUG, but on several occasions DelVaLUG was able to attach itself to a non-train-related public event.  Here are some potential events, although most are probably too soon for us to organize anything (though as far as the public is concerned -- and especially kids -- organization is superfluous).

How many of us build SF-related models?  At least two of us.

Rotorfest 13 -- Sat-Sun 3-4 Oct
American Helicopter Museum; helicoptermuseum.org
Too late this year, but this is a highly-attended annual event (they also have a "Fatherfest") and they'd probably be happy to have a LEGO display that focused on helicopters and other rotorcraft.  And it's located 10 minutes from my place.

Video Game Expo 5 -- Fri-Sun 9-11 Oct
Pennsylvania Convention Center; videogame.net/vgxpo/

GameX Games & Media Expo -- Fri-Sun 23-25 Oct
Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (Phoenixville); gamexpo.us
This is sponsored by NBC10, so it's like the NBC10 Technology Expo in Fort Washington that DelVaLUG exhibited at in October 2004 and 2005 (when Jim Foulds was running things); it 2005 it coexisted with VGXPO.  Then it vanished.  Now it's back, more or less (this charges an entrance fee; I don't recall if the Tech Expo did); so they might remember us if we inquire.

Zenkaikon 2009 (anime) -- Sat-Sun 7-8 Nov
Radisson Hotel Valley Forge; zenkaikon.com

Philcon (SF) -- Fri-Sun 20-22 Nov
Crowne Plaza Cherry Hill; philcon.org
This is the big SF convention at which I've run Kids Programming since 2003; DelVaLUG has actually received an invite to exhibit in the art show.  I know many of you will be in Connecticut that weekend.

Well, Trev wanted to watch a movie, so didn't get much sorting done. Here are some things I have inventoried so far:

The old Samsonite set 703 has 126 red and white bricks in it, might be complete, not sure, no inventory listed on Bricklink or Peeron for that set. No paperwork in box.

Technic set 8735 only has 2 of the 60 parts, but they are important ones, the battery box 2847c01 and the motor 71427c01, both in light gray. Can someone let me know how to open the battery box, I don't want to pry it the wrong way. I want to test it to see if it works.

We have a box only for set 6907 insectoids sonic stinger, so if someone comes across the pieces or instructions in what they have, let me know.

There is a new sealed box with Egyptian style artwork on it. NO numbers or words. Do people want me to carefully open it to find out what is in it?

A really huge boat hull in red with light gray inside.  52x12x6 1/3   #  bfloat4c01

black storage case with lego logo 305x264x90mm  from 1997    # case1

more tomorrow. KC

So KC and I have started sorting. The plan is to sort as much as possible so it
can be divided up at this Saturdays meeting. The collection is being split into
10 shares. Each share will cost $250. So far this is who is definitely in.

KC 2 Shares

Cale 2 Shares

Joel 1 Share

Arthur 1 Share

Chris 1 Share

That leaves 3 shares still open. Mike Tighe has expressed interest in taking one
but has not confirmed yet. And Carter is looking for some one willing to split a
share.

Actually, if it's taking place at this saturday's meeting, that leaves me out; I'd thought the meeting was the 17th, and so didn't request off from work in time :(

Enjoy the draft!

So KC and I have started sorting. The plan is to sort as much as possible so it can be divided up at this Saturdays meeting. The collection is being split into 10 shares. Each share will cost $250. So far this is who is definitely in.

KC 2 Shares

Cale 2 Shares

Joel 1 Share

Arthur 1 Share

Chris 1 Share

That leaves 3 shares still open. Mike Tighe has expressed interest in taking one but has not confirmed yet. And Carter is looking for some one willing to split a share.

Question: How will everything be divided up? Is it just going to be a
set/parts draw, or will loose parts be evenly distributed, with those
that can't be going to a draw?

OK, this didn't appear in the list of postings after I made a reply to this, so
I'm doing it again.

The million dollar question: How is this being divided up? Is it going to be a
sets/parts draw? Or will loose parts be evenly distributed, with those that
can't be being part of a later draw?

Look in the miscelanous/Misc however its spelled. One of the wholesale people I
deal with had some lego stuff I thought all might be interested in.

The first is the Lego City Plate/spoon/cup set. No it's not brick, but I'm
getting some just for the minifig head cup :) (the minifig head cup itself is
just awesome i think

Second is a LEgo City Cup w/ straw. The pic pretty well explains this one.

These are closeouts they recieved and they don't get anything lego very often
but this time they did. The Price for the plate/cup/spoon set is $11 (was $15)
and cup is $7 (which isn't all that smashing a deal but...)

I thought I'd pass along the info and see if anyone is interested. The plate
set I'm sure I can stuff 3-4 in a flat rate mailer box. Might make some good
items to have in your bricklink store. I'll probably just mail any orders to
Cales house to simplify shipping, unless you're really not gonna be around for
any meetings soon and want it shipped seperate, but shipping together will save
everyone some cash.

If anyone is interested, reply to me at mtlug@... or on here. I'll check
back in a week, at which time I have to let him know how much if any to order.

I'm in for a share if there's still one available. If no one else is willing to
split with Carter, I might be able to take 1.5 shares.

I just looked at the photos. I am amending my previous statement. I am

I have already paid for 2 shares and would like to keep them both if possible as my GF who can't ever make meetings because of work wants a share of it.

As previously asked, but I haven't seen a reply..

how do I open 9volt battery box, I don't want to pry it the wrong way. I want to test it.

there is a box that says Lego on it, and has Egyptian drawings on it, but no other words or numbers. Do you want me to open it carefully to see what is in it?

Which 9V battery box are you talking about? Is it this one?
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4760c01 If so, all you need to do is
push in the small tab on the bottom, and the bottom part will come off. It
really doesn't require very much force to open it.

As for the other thing you're describing, I have no idea what it could be. My
first inkling was to suspect that it goes back to the Adventurer's line, but
without seeing the box I can't be sure. I couldn't find anything that remotely
matched up to your description on bricklink. If I were you, I wouldn't open
that puppy just yet before doing some internet detective work. For example, ask
around on message boards. And even Joe Meno might be able to find someone to
direct you to that can shed some light on what it is.

Could you post pictures of the box? What are its dimensions?
