This group is to discuss and facilitate the opening of a Buddhist Temple in Petersham, Mass just 3 miles from IMS and BCBS both in Barre. The Temple will have a monastic from the Theravada Buddhist tradition as Abbot and will serve the Sangha as it's primary purpose. Thus it will have a large Buddha Hall that is open 24 hours a day; daily scheduled chanting and meditation periods; weekly talks or taped talks; ceremonies such as weddings and funerals, holiday celebrations, all sorts of community-oriented activities such as child-care times, potluck suppers, picnics, meetings; all and any kind of activity of any community church. To set up this temple will involve organizing as a non-profit organization, buying the structure from the present owner who will owner finance, and locating the monastics who will be in residence. Eventually, an adjoining monastery will be connected to this new Temple.
This new Temple will compliment, not compete with, the already existing Buddhist organizations in this area. This list is for all who are interested in this endeavor.
