Biography
Kerfala “Fana†Bangoura, was named “Master Drummer†by the Guinean Ministry of Culture in 2008. He performed as a soloist for two national groups of Guinea, Percussions de Guinée and Les Ballets Africains for over 8 years. He also served as Percussion Director for Fareta, a Guinean ballet company founded by Karim Keita (of Ballets Africains) over 9 years.  He is also the Director of his own ensemble, Sekha-Kan Kolon, which tours throughout Guinea performing and animating ceremonies throughout Guinea.

In June 2010 he returned from five months of various U.S. performance and teaching tours, during which he was featured on the Monique show on national, Black Entertainment Television. In addition to being a great performer, co-workers and students enjoy working with Fana. For example co-workers and students have said the following about Fana: "Fana has a wonderfully expressive style and the ability to demonstrate power and stamina while maintaining the lyrical beauty of his instrument. He is internationally recognized for his abilities as an outstanding artist and patient, knowledgeable instructor."

Here is a recent clip of Fana performing on national television on the Monique Show. He is featured 9 minutes and 40 seconds into this link: http://www.bet.com/video/900633

Thank you so much to all who voted for Won Tan Nara Productions in the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Edev, a Eugene Micro-Enterprise Development Organization!

I was told that it was a very close vote and Won Tan Nara Productions was way ahead up until right before the polls closed when we came in second to Sweet Skins, another fabulous small Eugene based business.

We very much appreciate all of your support and were really touched by all of your beautiful testimonials. Check out link of Andrea accepting the award on behalf of Won Tan Nara Productions @ Edev's annual picnic.

Be well & hope to see you soon!

West African Cultural Arts Institute's Mission Statement

Sharing the joy and passion of West African culture through vibrant music and dance, enhancing education, sustaining strong community bonds, advocating for authentic, source artists, creating an international cultural arts center in Guinea for the home of cultural exchange and humanitarian projects and promoting emotional and physical health: We expand worldviews, while instilling sensitivity of all cultures and values of team work and positive challenge in an encouraging environment.

Dear friends,

Alseny Yansane and Andrea DiPalma Yansane are very excited to announce that we have started a new non-profit organization called the West African Cultural Arts Institute. As most of you know we have been pouring our heart and soul as well as all of our time, energy and resources into developing diverse educational programs, performances, fundraisers and other community events that promote the cultural arts of West Africa here in the United States as well as in Guinea. Starting this non-profit organization will give us the self-sufficiency to expand the capacity of our educational programs, reach more diverse communities and foster continued support for charitable projects in Guinea so that our vision will have a greater impact upon the world. Please click links above for co-founders' biographies.

In order to provide uninterrupted services of our all of programs during our transition into the non-profit organization, Won Tan Nara Productions will be hosting the West African Cultural Arts Institute until all of the operations like website, newsletters and new email addresses are completely up and running by March 21st, 2011.

We are, however, at this time an official non-profit organization that is able to receive tax deductible donations. If you would like to make a donation to offset our starting costs, including attorney fees and fees associated with becoming a tax deductible entity or volunteer to help us launch some new and improved programing please call Andrea @ 541.232.5471 or email wontanaraproductions@....

Thank you so much for your love and your support, we couldn't have done this without you!

Sincerely,

Andrea & Alseny

Come experience the powerful drum and dance traditions of Guinea, West Africa!

Mounfanyi Percussion and Dance Ensemble is led by Fana Bangoura, from Guinea, West Africa. Named “Master Drummer” by the Guinean Ministry of Culture in 2008, Fana has over eight years of experience as a featured soloist with the Percussions de Guinee and Les Ballets Africains, in addition to his work as the Percussion Director of Ballet Fareta.  Fana's incredible drum arrangements demonstrate the richness and intricacy of the drumming and dance traditions of West Africa.

In addition, Mounafanyi also features Ibrahim Kelly of Mali and Ibrahim Sylla of Guinea, in addition to Fana's talented students from Eugene and Portland.   Finally, this debut performance will feature a guest appearance by Manimou Camara, of Guinea.

I hope to see you there!
