Hello fellow swing dancers!

I am very happy to announce we ARE going to have lessons after all on the 17th.
We've decided to spice it up (just for the night)!

*Stephen and I (Amelia) will continue our Blues Series at 7pm

*Mike and I (Amelia) will teach a Beginner Swing class at 8pm

*The Social will go on as normal with a few fun and "different" songs you'd
never guess you can swing to!!
Mario and Mike will be Djing.. so expect some swanky Blues, fun Balboa, Loosy
Lindy, and jivin swing! We're goint to integrate all types of swing music for
all kinds of swing dancers : )

*Pricing- $10 per person. This means you can take both the Blues and Beginner
Classes and have the social included all for $10. If you only want to take 1
class, that's up to youm but the price is still $10.

*This is a GREAT time to invite some friends who haven't tried our exciting
dance yet!!! I always encourage you to invite as many people as possible to
enjoy our special nights. Who knows- there could be a future famous dancer in
our midst : ) (wouldn't that be cool?!)

*I know this is some people's Spring Break, but for those who are going to
attend- you will have a blast!! Don't forget- if someone there has a birthday,
please let me know so we can celebrate their beautiful life with them and show
them how special they are to us!

*For those who paid for the month- come talk to me, I've got you all taken care
of. I have a plan : )

*If you don't know me- Hi! I am Amelia- the PR Director for the SASDS. I want
you to know that I am here for EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. Please feel free to
email me at www.saswing.org (click on the the info link) with any questions,
suggestions, fun ideas or concerns you might have. This is your organization- we
as the Board are here to help you and encourage you in any way we can!

I really hope to see you all there!

Giant City Quartet, including JD Pendley, Lindsay Greene, Mark Gonzales, and
Erik Hokkanen, will be providing live music with Matt Jones and Colin Wise DJing
during the breaks. It's going to be a night of fantastic music, and would love
for you to join us!

When: Saturday March 27th, 8-midnight
Where: Fiesta Room at Trinity University (see below for maps)

I miss y'all in Texas. Come out, say hi to me and Mike, and help us celebrate
along with the newest generation of Trinity Swing Bums!

We are so excited about the lesson changes- your instructors want to give you
the most opportunities to learn as many kinds of swing dances as possible.

More details for Saturday's Syndicate Go Dance and the Blues Jack n' Jill contest.

Saturday's Facebook Page, feel to RSVP and invite your friends.

Saturday, April 10th
Go Dance Studio
9:30 to 12:30AM

$5 for Go Dance Students & Austin Swing Syndicate Members
$7 for non members

We will have DJs Wendy Beathard, Mike Hymel, Nathan Malone, and Keith Shapiro; two rooms of dancing, a West Coast/Blues room and a Lindy room. The lindy room will probably feature a little blues also, since the theme this month is to provide a prelude for BluesSHOUT! (less than two weeks, www.bluesshout.com)

Things the judges will be looking at
* Dancing with the music (on the beat or with the melody)
* Maintaining good balance
* Communicating lead and follow with your partner
* Keeping the character of the dance most the time (aka Blues Aesthetic)
* Entertaining the audience
* Musicality
* Creativity
* Taking Chances (don't just focus on rehearsed moves, take a chance)

We will provide the competitors more info about some of the things the Blues Shout judges will be looking for at the Go Dance Jack n Jill.   However, for now, we wanted to keep the instructions simple.

Format is Jack n Jill, partners will rotate, tempos will vary somewhat, no advance notice of the song selections will be given (the DJ will surprise you).

Prizes are free admission to the Syndicate's Monthly Dance at Go Dance for the top lead and follow, plus a certificate you put on your wall.

Depending on the level of participation, we may have one heat or multiple heats.

Hope to see everybody Saturday.

Thanks,
Nathan

I'd like to expand a little about the changes in the lessons starting
this month (today).

The level 1 class will no longer try to balance walk-ins and those
students preparing for Lindy 1.  This class will be geared more toward
walk-ins and will take students on any week of the month.

The level 2 class will rotate through different dances like east
coast, charleston, lindy, balboa, and blues.  It will always start
from the basics. We want beginners with very little experience in
this class, but it will be progressive so you will need to start from
week 1.

The level 3 class will rotate through the same dances but will
continue with dance style from the previous month taught in level 2.
For example, we are teaching basic balboa in Level 2 this month, so we
will be teaching balboa in level 3 next month. Unlike the level 2
class, the curriculum will vary so that experienced dancers can learn
new material.  This is going to give us two months of every dance
style every 6 months.

Up until now the level 4 (freestyle) was were we put balboa and shag
etc. As a result we haven't been free to teach harder lindy material
in that class. This month we will be teaching 20's charleston and a
dancer at any skill level will be invited to attend, but that may not
be the case after this month.

I'm really excited about these changes. I think that most all of our
students will get more out of the classes with this arrangement. I
believe that Amelia will have a suggestion box out tonight and we
welcome any feedback you guys have.

It's swing night at the Landing and the Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats will be
playing tonight. For those who want to go, it starts at 8:30PM, and loading
zones have free parking downtown after 6:00PM. This is a really good band!!! It
looks like they will be playing every third Thursday of the month at the
Landing. Hope to see you there.

*Here's a little tip for downtown parking. Commercial loading zones are only
enforced between the hours of 8AM and 6PM, M-F. So if you are going downtown in
the evening or on the weekend, you are free to park in one of the loading zone
spots on the street. You will not be ticketed. However, just make sure the
loading zone sign does not say "day-night" on it. Those zones are enforced 24-7.

Dear SA Swing Dancers,

If spring is here, can summer be far behind? Registration for Swing Out New Hampshire 2010 is now open. We'd love to have you at SONH this summer! The dates are September 1-6, over a long Labor Day Weekend.

This summer the total basic cost for SONH (including all classes, dances, meals, regular cabin accommodations, snacks, evening programs and activities) will be $675. The only extras are the optional bus from and to Logan Airport in Boston ($90), the limited supply of semi-private accommodations ($80 extra per person) and the optional rental of blankets and linens ($25) if you don't bring your own bedding and towel.

If you haven't already done so, please take a look at our website at http://www.swingoutnh.com. It really captures the spirit of SONH! There's also a Photo Gallery on the site, with lots of great shots from past summers.

Austin Blues Party 4

This Fourth of July weekend, make the trek to the hottest place in Texas for the Fourth Edition of Austin Blues Party. Early Bird pricing is just $65, through THIS Saturday, May 1st. (www.austinbluesparty.com/registration.php)

This year, we’re shaking things up a bit. Classes have been cut way back, and the party has been turned way up. (Can’t party as late if you have to get up for class, right?)

The Party:
No performances.
No competitions.
No worries.
Blues. Just Blues.
If you're new to Blues, Campbell and Chris have designed a limited series of lessons specifically for you.

The Bands:
On Friday, Spencer Thomas will bring the house down with his kicking Texas Blues.
Greg Izor and the Box Kickers will melt us with sultry harmonica on Saturday.
Both bands really get dancers, and how to play for them.

The DJs:
Mike Marcotte brings the East Coast, Cid Galicia brings the West Coast, and Jerry Warwick ties it all together from the Third Coast (if you can imagine Dallas as being remotely coastal). We also feature our local talent in DJ BluRay and The Reverend Shady Glenn, and others.

Just come dance with us.
Austin Blues Party. All Blues. All Night. Just Right.

There is also likely to be an Engine Room the same night, I would check their website for more details, http://www.engineroomjazz.com/.  I highly encourage you to attend either or both events.

Finally, we have some awesome things planned for the Fall and will let you know the news in late August.

I'm very excited about these classes.  $75 is a steal!  Get it while you can.
