good morning everyone,

while at sam's burger joint last night, Mikey and myself had a pair of ladies come up to us trying to see if anyone from our society would be willing to dance at a local fashion show.  they were very apologetic that it's such short notice, but are looking to have 2-3 couples/pairs dancing.  we already have one couple in place.  can we get any others?  below is the info, PLEASE let me know by around 7pm tonight (tuesday aug 24th)~ this way i can tell them how many/what to expect.  thanks!

what: a fashion show, dedicated to the 40's and 50's
when: saturday, doors open at 6pm, the "show" starts at 7pm (dancing around 7ish?)
where: esplanade gardens located at 10790 toepperwein rd, sa tx, 78109 (off of IH 35)
to expect: they have a VERY small dance floor/like a raised catwalk, in which the dancers will perform.  they would prefer us to bring some music, if not, they can provide it. they would like a definite yes or no by tonight~ this way they can try to find some other entertainment for the show...

also, even though no money will be involved (bring a water bottle to be safe) there WILL be great PR involved for the society~ they said the news will be there.  (not sure if it will be televised OR newspaper)  they also said that we can bring flyers and talk up the society as well.

so, please respond back if interested, i've already got one pair willing to dance, are there any others?  dancing would last no more than 30 minutes as what she was describing.  thanks!

hey evereyone!

just wanted to say that we have some exciting things coming up for this 5 week month of september!  keep in mind that we have a special "back-to-school" special on renewing your sasds membership~ it's only $15 instead of the normal $20!  plus, to help us keep kicking up our heels with fun entertainment, the socials at Amora are only $3 for members and $4 for non-members.  (after last week, when the message hadn't been received, we got it ironed out and will extend one week after to make up for it.)

also, because it IS a 5 week month, we're gonna hold a social!  the social will take place the last wednesday in september, so mark your calendars for sept 29th where good food, good music, and good times will be had!  (a separate email will circulate for sign ups for the social potluck!)

hope to see everyone out in full swing fun, and if that isn't enough to satisfy your dancing needs, check out the workshop Alamo Stomp which is one month away!  cheers!

short, sweet, and simple folks.  i imagine that ONE of these days this upcoming week, you'll be able to get your swing dancing fix!

monday: don't forget that sam's burger joint will host 2 sasds instructors from 7-8pm, and then the live band "the barnburners" performs from 8:30-10:30pm.  (keep in mind, it's a $7 cover, lessons are free, and this hopping dance floor is located at 281 south and grayson st.)

wednesday: lessons at amora ballroom are from 7-9pm, $10 for one class, $15 for 2 classes, both beginners and intermediate lessons.  social is only $3-4 (if no class is taken, class prices include social) and is from 9-11pm. also, to keep up with the "back-to-school" special, renewing and new sasds memberships are only $15!

thursday: if you haven't gotten your fill of swing dancing thus far, why not finish up the week strong and with some good old-fashioned fun w/ the Jim Cullen Band at "The Landing".  the band plays at 8:30pm and goes til 11, dancers are free but carry some cash for parking/drinks/etc.  The Landing is located at the Hyatt, down on the riverwalk...

okay, so, maybe it wasn't so "short and simple" as i thought it would be, but hope that with the wide range of events that are going on this week, everyone will get a chance to show off their dance skills!  cheers!

1) Can you provide housing?
2) How many can you accomodate?
3) Do you have any pets?

Please email me back and let me know what will work best for you.  We really appreciate all your help, and are sure to have a great weekend because of it.

If you haven't yet registered for Alamo Stomp, please visit www.saswing.org.  Remember that you can either register for the classes and dances ($85), or a dance pass to get you into all three dances. Just think, two live bands and 12 hours of dancing for only $35 with your pass!  Al la carte prices are also available to be paid at the door in case you to bring a friend who is new to the swing scene or you are only able to attend one night.

Thanks again and we hope to see you there!

For the third year in a row, the Syndicate is having a 80s side room!  Join me and Rev. Shady Glenn  Unlike the previous two years, this one will not be held during the Halloween dance, instead it will be held on the September 5th Thursday.

What to expect, songs from the 1980s (or maybe 80s inspired cover songs) that you can swing dance to.  Generally speaking a lot of the songs will be West Coast friendly, but we will also mix in Blues, lindy friendly songs, along with club tracks if the dancers react to it.

See you on the dancer floor,
Nathan and Colin

hello everyone!

just a friendly reminder of some of the fun and exciting swing events that are coming up this week and some future events!

monday: don't forget to come out to sam's burger joint!  there will be a beginner lesson from 7-8pm like normal and then the live band "Castillo and the Hubcaps" performing from 8:30-10:30pm.  remember that the cover is $7 which includes the lesson, also know that sam's is located off of 281 s and grayson st.

wednesday: IT'S A POTLUCK SOCIAL!  the food social starts at 7pm, so bring a plate/dish/drink/etc~ since it is a potluck, there isn't any theme so bring what you can!  we will have our normal beginner lesson from 8-9pm in the larger room, and then in the smaller side room there will be a more intermediate "line" dance taught.  (not the shim sham, but similar)  then the regular dance social is from 9-11pm, it will be the $3 for members, $4 for non-members... amora ballroom where all this is happening is located at loop 410 and perrin beitel road.

okay folks, as most of you are aware, the Alamo Stomp workshop is 2 WEEKS AWAY!  how exciting!  and to not miss out on all the fun and exciting adventures that will surely be had, register on the sasds.org website.  you can go the entire weekend, choose just the dances, or even sign up for a day.  prices vary.

hope to see everyone on the dance floor, or in the adjacent booths tapping their toes to the beat!

Subject: Intermediate Balboa Workshop - Cancelled for October 16th
To: matt@...

Folks,

Sorry, especially since i know I sent the reminder notice about the workshop out only yesterday.

But I have come down with a terrible allergies/cold/sinus infection (hopefully not the flu) this evening.

Laura and i decided it would be best to cancel for Saturday, since there is no guaranty I will be back on my feet by then.

So, the Saturday, October 16th Intermediate Balboa Workshop w/Laura and Matt at Galaxy Dance Studio is cancelled.

We are still scheduled for November 20th and December 18th.

Thanks.

And, again, I apologize if I caused any of you any inconvenience.

- Matt Jones
