Well, it's that crazy time of year again--Back to Middle-earth Month! I posted a few weeks ago about this year's event; we're playing BINGO, fandom-style! Every day, we'll be calling a number that participants match up to prompts on their BINGO cards. Create something for one or more of that day's prompts and receive stamps on your cards in a quest to be the first to reach BINGO!

Today's number is I18. Participants have until roughly 11:59 PM GMT to make a significant start on any prompts that match this number in order to claim stamps.

Yes, I am withholding today's number for the moment in a transparent attempt at suspense and to request a moment's attention from participants. :) Then back to Back to Middle-earth Madness! :)

Who thinks the B2MeM stampers are doing a fabulous job? I certainly do--so I would like to declare today Love Your Stampers Day! As part of Love Your Stampers Day, I'd like to offer some gentle reminders of how to make your stampers' considerable task just a teensy bit easier. Because--with almost 90 participants this year and OMG-I-don't-even-want-to-hazard-a-guess number of cards to manage--the stampers certainly appreciate every effort to keep their jobs as painless as possible.

**Unless your LJ handle is exactly the same as the name you're using for B2MeM, don't forget your name on your comment. Yes, we can figure out that Lady Dawn and Dawn Felagund are the same person, but when skimming dozens of comments for her assigned players, it becomes very easy for a stamper to overlook a name that doesn't fall into the range of alphabet she's been assigned.

**Please list the names of the cards that you need stamped. If you want to include the prompts as well, you certainly can, but we don't need this information. Just your name and the names of the cards you need stamped.

**If you're requesting stamps for two different numbers, please comment on both posts with the respective stamps that you need. So if you wrote a story including prompts for both O68 and O67, kindly put your requests for the O68 stamps on the O68 post, and your request for the O67 stamps on the O67 post.

Hi, all,

The United States and Canada switched to daylight savings time this morning. The United Kingdom does not change to daylight savings time until March 25, and since we use GMT for our schedule for B2MeM, that means that, for some participants, the posting time for new bingo numbers changes, as does the time when old numbers are closed.

Until March 25, new bingo numbers will be posted no later than 8 PM EST. Old numbers will be removed no earlier than 8 PM EST.

I'll post another notice when the times change in the UK so everyone remembers to adjust their schedules again, if necessary.

Hi, all,

Due to B2MeM being massively successful this year and therefore monopolizing my time in a big way, the newsletter is dreadfully late. I do apologize--but here it is at long last! :)


This month's edition contains news from the SWG, from groups beyond our borders, stories added and updated during February, and the current challenges on the site. In honor of Back to Middle-earth Month, Oshun has contributed the first part of what promises to be an informative and insightful biography of Gandalf. This part considers how he appears in LotR and The Hobbit (compared to the very different character we see in The Silmarillion and related works) as well as the archetypal roles he plays. The biography is also illustrated by Pandemonium_213.

Pandë has also contributed another in her series of brilliantly funny Gothmog & Draugluin comics. This month, Melkor prepares to whisk his wife away on a romantic getaway, and Lil Gothmog heads off to Tol-in-Gaurhoth with his babysitter (sorry! observer!), Professor Thû.

Many thanks to Oshun, Pandemonium, Rhapsody, and Angelica, who contributed to this month's newsletter. (And got their stuff in on time! :) Enjoy!

Anyone have any ideas about how a group would go about travelling north
alongside the river Sirion and crossing the  Andram and scaling the falls of
Sirion? Is there an easier way around the falls if one is required to follow the
Sirion north to Doriath?

I'm really stuck, or, well... I have some people who will be really stuck in
about another chapter. I need help getting them to Doriath!

Anybody? Please?

On the map of Beleriand, Andram is not drawn very high and steep like some other mountains, so I guess it should be possible to find some way, a sort of pass, through the hills. This is my suggestion:
