This is a U.S. based forum.

The elements that lead to the effective teaching of mathematics involve the instructors studying the textbooks and other teaching material, doing the math themselves, and discussing math with and learning math from other instructors. The purpose of this forum is to assist those outside of Singapore, using Singapore's Primary and Secondary level mathematics, particularly Primary Math, to achieve these elements. Discussions regarding all aspects of teaching the concepts plus use of related math material are welcome. Homeschoolers, teachers, and parents who use these materials in the classroom or at home are welcome to participate.

It is not the purpose of this forum to discuss larger issues regarding such things as the "reform" math versus "traditional" math debate in the U.S., national issues in math education, critiques of research in math eduction, etc., except as they directly pertain to using Primary Mathematics or other texts from Singapore. The membership of this forum consists primarily of homeschoolers and teachers in the U.S., as well as some in the U.K. and Australia and New Zealand, and some teachers or students in Singapore here to help others with math that originated in Singapore. It is NOT a Singapore based forum and it's purpose is NOT to help Singapore students with math, or to discuss strictly Singaporean issues.

The list will be moderated to constructive discussion within the purposes stated above. Inflammatory, derogatory, or sarcastic language will not be permitted. Opinions posted on this group are those held only by the poster, and are not representative of the entire group.

Posts made to sell used Singapore math or science curriculum in the U.S. are allowed; all replies should be made directly to the poster and not to the group. However, any other post that appears to be an advertisement will not be permitted.
